Rating: Summary: Gripping page-turner!!! Review: When I first saw this book, I thought, "A takeoff on 'Jaws'. Ho hum." I was very wrong. This is a fast-paced, gripping book with nowhere to put it down. A believable title character, the Megaladon is a terrifying creature. This book keeps you going until the very end. Well done!
Rating: Summary: Great story, great action, but, why? Review: I would like to cangratulate Steve Alten on a fabulous first novel. His action-thriller, Meg, is a riveting non-stop, edge of your seat, Crichtonesque rollercoaster. Upon finishing this book some flaws became evident. First, this is a very short novel, almost a novella, and had little chance to build up to the rollicking ending. Second, though the ending was exceedingly creative and unpredictable, it was a bit far fetched for this sort of techno-thriller. Third, the actual threat of a lone Carcharodon Megalodon and her small brood was never very well pointed out. At certain suspenseful points in the book I was stricken with the feeling, "Why are they bothering?". But these few, trivial flaws should not deter any readers, as it is a marvelous read, even if only for the two-sittings it will take to read it.
Rating: Summary: Perfect blend of action, fear and desperation. Review: Alten perfectly blends action, curiosity, fear, and desperation. He puts you in the situation of trying to rid the world of a killer shark's 60 foot long ancestor. If you thought Jaws was scary you should read this pulse-pounding novel.
Rating: Summary: Great story, not too thrilled by ending!! Review: I just finished reading MEG and all I can say is WOW!!! Great story, lots of action, really keeps you going. This was a much better book than EXTINCT by Charles Wilson (which gets 2 stars). I just ordered the sequel (The Trench). The reason I am giving this only 3 stars out of 5 was the ending. I won't go into detail for those who have not read it, and by all means do so, but I thought the ending could have been better. Keep the coming Mr Alten, you have Peter Benchley beat by a mile!
Rating: Summary: a true novel of deep sea terror! 5 stars all the way! Review: i started reading Benchley novels and then i read this, it is one of the best books ever written and cant wait to read the sequel. If you liked this book i recommend to buy white shark and jaws and beast by peter benchley! trust me. by the way every thing he said is true!!!!
Rating: Summary: THE MOST EXCITING BOOK I HAVE EVER READ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: This is a great triller. it kept me on the edge of my seat the from the beginning to the remarkable ending.
Rating: Summary: Terrifying novel that makes you wonder what's out there Review: I read the book when I was twelve and re-read it at 13. I picked up on some things that I missed and it was soooo good the second time around. I always had high hopes but discovered that it was almost easily predictible. However the climax held me in its relentless grip till the end. The last page of the book had a strong significanse and made me say "Wow". I'll bet that everyone who has ever read Meg stopped and thought about how true this novel could be.I deeply enjoyed it and have made Steve ALten my idol. I have read and reviewed many other books here at Amazon.com, and I encourage you to check them out to see what kind of critic I am.
Rating: Summary: A juicy novel! Review: This is a juicy novel that grips you so tightly you do not want to put it down once you start to read it. Throughout the book you can vivedly visualize scenes in the mind. It's almost like believing this has or is actually happening. Steve Alten expresses his passion of marine biology and paleontology very well in this book. As a biology major and a future marine biologist I thoroughly enjoyed this novel from beginning to end. I HIGHLY recommend that every biology or paleontology major in college take the time to read this novel.
Rating: Summary: Great setup .....weak ending....overall fun.... Review: I loved this book and enjoyed every chapter right up until the ending. I felt that the way "our" hero defeats this creature was a real let down. The entire book shows in fantastic descriptive ways how unstoppable the Meg is and then is defeated quite easily and most unbelievably. I have high hopes for the sequel "The Trench" and hope that the climax will not be as much of a let down. If anyone out there has read the sequel please write me and warn me if the ending is as "hokey" as the first. Or write me and encourage me that the sequel ending is more creative. Here's hoping for a much better conclusion.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Blast From The Past Thriller Review: Meg has got to bo one of the greatest books i have ever read. Ok, Ok. So what if it doesn't appeal to the realists in the world, it soars the imagination of the dreamers. I believe that the whole point of this book is not to tell us the traditional Jaws punchline to "stay out of the water". It's to remind us that we aren't the greatest and most owerful thing to hit earth.
