Rating: Summary: meg, steve alten Review: i read the book and was really impressed, ive been looking for a good book on the megalodon shark and steve alten hit the nail on the head with this one!
Rating: Summary: Steve Alten's MEG Review: The first impression I had about this book was alright someone finally brought sharks back into the limelight. As I read this book I began to actually worry that maybe these creatures really do exist. I enjoyed the way the author unfolds his story in a puzzel-like fashion. Each piece dovetails nicely with the next. You really feel like hell for the way Jonas Taylor gets treated by everyone and then you cheer when he is proven right. He wishs he was wrong...!! This story is one for any person who has every look at the sea with all it's savage beauty and realized that like it or not it gives us life and can take it away just as fast.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Terrifying! Review: Very rarely does a book give me the shivers as this one did! I found Steve Alten's MEG scary, fun, and gory all in one. Some of the sequences in the novel are amazing, and I could just hear that certain other shark music in my head as I flashed through attack after attack. The sheer size, and complexity of the star of the book amazes me, and I applaud Alten on his research on the megaladon. Had I had this book on vacation. I never would have gone near the water! The only down side i saw in this book was the lame surf boy/stud scene. After going through what he went through I would have just collapsed onto the sand, and said I am taking up golf! Other than that. This was a great read! Can't wait to read the sequel. hey isn't there supposed to be a movie?
Rating: Summary: MEG BY STEVE ALTEN Review: Whilst traveling i`ve read quite a few books,Meg was my fifteenth in three months and all i can say is wow,i`ve read books quickly but never in less then sixteen hours,i found myself regretting putting the book down as i was captive to the story and i just kept wanting to read another chapter yet not wanting the story to end.you can always tell a good book when you regret finishing it and i can honestly say that was the case with Meg,i can`t wait to read the sequal the Trench and i hope it`s as good as the first!I find sharks facinating and from what i`ve heard and read Steve Alten has put blood and sweat into this story and it`s really paid off!if this book is ever made into a movie i`ll be there to watch it as it would have to be so much better than the dissapointing Blue Sea from last year.great book! off to read the Trench!
Rating: Summary: Watch out for that shark! Review: This book surprised me. I was actually somewhat entertained although my imagination had to reach in some parts....cutting the shark's heart with a tooth from the inside? Un-huh... Gotcha. Felt like some serious Hollywoodism going on. Although I found the writing a tad on the juvenile side in the beginning, it seemed to improve over the remainder of the novel. Bonus, it's short! I was done in one sitting. Let's just say, I was entertained enough to go out and purchase the sequel... I'll let you know later how that one went!
Rating: Summary: Go Meg Go! Review: once in a while you come across a book that draws you in from the first word and doesn't let you go until the last. Meg, is such a book. Yes its been done before but in my opinion this one is much, much better than Jaws. I found Jaws to be rather slow at times while Meg has a pace equal with that of Meg's speed. I really didn't care about the human characters in this one only the shark. Every time an attack was about to take place I was rooting for the shark to get them all! The ending i found breath taking and it was nice to see that Alten didn't go for the big explosion ending as is so common in such books. As for details, well who cares; whether or not a shark can truly jump out of the water like that its irrelevent this is a work of fiction after all. You want facts go read an encyclopedia. You want non-stop suspense, read Meg. Having bought the audio version I found it to be a good production. The music accompaniment worked quite well along with the reader and really brought up the suspense level while listening to it. Great book great production, now I can't wait to listen to the sequel, Trench.
Rating: Summary: Good Premise But Corny Review: I admit that I was entertained by this book I have always been facinated by sharks especially the Megaladon and I was very excited to come across this book. the story for me was a cool trip but the characters were like cardboard and I did not feel any sympathy for them and then there is the utterly ridiculous ending thatg had me laughing out loud!
Rating: Summary: Not JAWS , but good enough to enjoy. Review: The book is not a classic , but it hits a spot in your reading karma . You read the book and you feel satisfied that you read it . Mr. Alten , is not the best writer , but with a little work he has a very high potential of being one.
Rating: Summary: When it comes to sharks BIGGER is not always better Review: Reading MEG is a double edged sword. It is easy to gulp the book down, the pacing is fast and the style so visual, but when you finish it it's like...yeah so? Besides this reads more like a film novelization than an actual book. Still it's fun in an unpretentious B-movie kind of way and, heck, I'm game for the sequel.
Rating: Summary: MEG Review: They say you can't judge a book by it's cover- well I did! When I first picked up "MEG"- I had no idea what the book was about, and when I got home- I just threw it on my desk- "Oh- I'll read it later!" But before I did- I had to read the first chapter to see what this "MEG" was about. Well- after I read chapter 1, it was on to chapter 2- then 3- and so on. I could not put this book down! I read the whole 278 page book in less then 2 days! Steve Alten is a very gifted "begining" author, and I highly recommend his first novel "MEG" and the sequel "Trench". Every page is filled with action, adventure, plus very well developed characters- and a great finally that leads up to "Trench". If your into "Jaws" or other types of books like that- buy this book today!
