Rating: Summary: Unbelievable! Review: In reading the reviews of this so-called, awful novel, I don't see where these people get off stating that it was a good book. I could'nt even get past the 2nd chapter, cause I did not understand the message Koontz was getting at. Very, very confusing!
Rating: Summary: Not his usual...but still good Review: Icebound is not the usual Koontz traditional writing, but is a nice break. The book is set up to keep you on the edge of your seat and nervously sweating. It is definatey a suspense, but dont expect too many books with this particular style, Koontz writes in the back that it is a one of a kind, and it is! It's definately worth reading. The story is set on drifting iceberg....attempted murder is amidst...they are in a huge storm.....and what's worse?......the Iceburg is going to blow up at midnight.
Rating: Summary: Action Packed Review: Icebound was an extremely good book and was wonderfully written. You can't stop turning the pages and it is packed with suspense and action. I would recommend this book to older student readers looking for suspense and action.
Rating: Summary: Not for everyone Review: I thought Icebound was fantastic. However, if you aren't the type who likes technical, it-could-really-happen books, this probably isn't for you. Lots of Koontz's books are great, but not plausible. This one could happen tomorrow. I loved it.
Rating: Summary: 2 frosty gales for a weak arctic chiller Review: The audio version of Icebound was my first exposure to Koontz. I did know that he was a very popular author of horror/thriller stories. I had thought that Icebound would be a good companion on a lengthy drive. Icebound was a disappointment.Koontz probably had a pretty good story in mind when he began. Unfortunately, it seems that he felt the allure of the TV movie or the big screen and Icebound sounds like it was written with the special effects department in mind. After all, aside from movies and television, how often do vehicles explode in a ball of flame after crashing? Icebound is littered with improbabilities written with the screenplay in mind. The basic premise is clearly faulty. The story is predictable. A group of people trapped away from civilization with little hope of rescue and a murderer in the bunch is as old a story as has been told. The identity of the murderer is predictable. The rest of the characters are predictable and include a young adventurer from a family patterned after the Kennedys. The ultimate means of rescue is ridiculous. Koontz should have done much better. There are a couple of redeeming features. Icebound features a married couple, neither of whom is having an extramarital fling. Furthermore, there is one scene in which Koontz communicates his skill as a horror writer. Koontz is also reasonably effective at communicating the feeling of cold. Still, he could learn a few things from Maclean's H.M.S. Ulysses. Icebound is bound by mediocrity. It has no claim to greatness but a major claim on schlock. Skip this one.
Rating: Summary: Koontz takes a stab at sci-fi... and hits! Review: Most Koontz books contain a little sci-fi in them, but this is more a sci-fi than thriller. The addition of the mandatory psycho-killer is unneccesary, but fills the odd void in the plotline.
Rating: Summary: A Plausable thriller with overwhelming suspense Review: This book is intense! I enjoyed every page of it . The suspense didn't end untill the very end. Scientists battle for survival in the evil artic environment. I really felt as if I knew the characters after I read this book, and I wanted them to live so badly during their long ordeal. IceBound is an awesome patchwork of fear, heroism, suspense, and romance. This book is frightening because it is so real. You will hate ice when you are done with this one. I recommend you read this on a hot day, you won't need an air conditioner.
Rating: Summary: Psychological thriller with a truly unique plot Review: Perhaps my favorite Koontz novel. Unlike many of his books, this one doesn't bring in paranormal elements; instead, he beautifully shows the drama of the human mind under extreme stress.
Rating: Summary: A great book full of suspense Review: I am 14 years old and this is the first Dean Koontz book I have read and I really enjoyed it. From the moment I picked up this book I couldn't put it down, every page was even more exciting than the last. This book had lots of real heart-thumping suspense that really made you feel what the characters were going through and put you right in the story. Ice bound had a very interesting plot with many realistic characters, and the effective descriptive wording really places the reader in the novel. If you really like an exciting adventure book packed with spine tingling suspense, then I strongly suggest you read this book.
Rating: Summary: Not one of his best Review: Even though I'm a big Dean R. Koontz fan, I have to say that Icebound was a big disappointment. He should have made this one a VERY short story. He took too long to get into the plot. Usually, I can read a Koontz novel in 2 or 3 hrs. because he draws his readers into the story from the start, but this book took me a week to read & only because I was determined to finish it once I had started.
