Rating: Summary: Tip - read this AFTER seeing the movie Review: The movie does no justice to this awesome novel. This was the first Koontz book I saw, on my brothers floor and he warned me "you never want to read that". A few years later I started to read Koontz avidly and eventually got around to Phantoms, problem was his copy was missing a page! Eventually I bought a new copy and read it. This is one of Koontz's most believeable books, and again, the references to religion always charm me into liking a book. Utterly compelling.
Rating: Summary: Phantastic Review: You can't please everyone - but Dean Koontz sure as hell comes close with this one. One hell of a book boasting great storyline, and even better characters. For fans of the horror genre this is irrefutably a must read. Koontz gives Steven King a run for his money (and IMHO blows the competition away). Despite a somewhat impractical ending (that still nevertheless contains a certain degree of plausibility) Koontz has managed to create the ultimate compilation of fear, suspense and pure entertainment in several hundred pages of writing. For all those who knock Phantoms - remember it is novel intended to please and entertain (and it does just that!).
Rating: Summary: Couldn't wait to finish this book but wanted it to continue! Review: I read this book while on vacation and could hardly stand putting it down. What was going to happen next?!?!? One of the many things I like about Mr. Koontz' books is that there is always a good ending. That makes it easier for me to get through the horror! Mr. Koontz always does a great job with the characters in his books. I always feel like I know them and can feel their emotions. I have read many, many of his books and would rate this one in the top three. I still love Watchers the best. This is a good one, too!
Rating: Summary: I cant understand why somebody rated this book four stars... Review: That's right, a six-star review would still be unfair... This is certainly Koontz masterpiece, maybe the best of its kind in recent american literature, far better than anything produced by Stephen King or other similar authors. And the reason it is so good is, beside the non-stop action and suspense, the scientific basis over which the full explanation for the mystery is built. A clever, intelligent ending, even rational and plausible, far different from other works in its genre, it leaves behind all those supernatural stereotypes of thriller novels... You should never miss it.
Rating: Summary: My favorite book of all time Review: I am an avid reader of Koontz, King, Saul and other horror authors, and by far this is my favorite book. Though some people don't like Koontz's prose and his scripting, I think it blows other books away. King is by far no comparison to Koontz's mastery at the genre. This book grips you from page 1 to the end (with the exception of some technical computer jibberish in the middle) and might make you question your own ethics and beliefs. A shocking, suspensful page-turner with plot twists everywhere and a great cast of believable characters. Other excellent books by Koontz are The Funhouse, The Voice of the Night (truly disturbing, not one for the weak of stomach), Intensity, Dragon Tears, Darkfall, and Lightning. Phantoms, by Koontz, is A MUST-READ!!! Fav. book of all time!
Rating: Summary: Makes you wonder if it could happen to you. Review: This was my second book i have read by Dean Koontz.I could not put it down.It made me so scared.I have chick around every corner now.It made me wonder if it could happen in this small town of mine.I love this book.I say if you want to be scared, read it.
Rating: Summary: The best book I've read in a long time! Review: I loved this book! The movie was awful compared to the book. This was my first time reading Dean Koontz and I'm ready for another one. I found this book to be a real page turner. It was riveting and hard to put down. I hope his other books live up to this one. My favorite so far!
Rating: Summary: From A First Time Koontz Reader Review: Wonderfully gruesome! PHANTOMS lurks among your deepest fears then snatches them and runs away with you. Gory and fearsomely Satanic, Koontz's "Ancient Enemy" makes the Blob look like a bumbled train wreck. PHANTOMS is superb! Well researched, its theological and mythical aspects really make a person think. Never a dull moment or lax in action. This thriller thrills on every page! It had me looking out my own window into the night at every imagined shadow and noise! Highly recommended for a mature adult audience.
Rating: Summary: This is a truly excellent horror book. Review: I loved this book because of the plot. It's not overly original in a book to have people just dissapear without clue...it was used 3 times by king with Salem's lot, Desperation, and It...all just as good and maybe better as Phantom's by the way (read them) but it is still fascinating and they definetly make for some of the most suspenseful and scary reads you can find.
Rating: Summary: It will be your favorite!! Review: I have read every one of Koontz's books and this was my absolute favorite. There was no guessing what was about to happen from one page to the next! Don't see the movie - it will spoil this wonderful book! Super suspense!
