Summary: One of the best books I've ever read!
Review: Phantoms is the first book I've read by Dean Koontz. But I'm sure I'll read more of them, because this is one of the best books I've read. It's very thrilling and fascinating. You never want to put the book down. You want to know what will happen next. I finished this book today and have already bought a new Dean Koontz thriller that I will read as soon as I can. If you like horror thrillers (or any kind of thrillers), you will LOVE this book!

Summary: GREAT BOOK
Review: Dean Koontz combine suspense, horror and action in every one of his books, besides a romantic story with funny and clever stuff. This make a perfect hook for every tipe of readers, except for those who don't know how to read. This book in particular develope a great story with a wonderful ending. I recommended especially for those who like horror novels with and great story behind it

Summary: Pretty good!
Review: This was *quite* a suspensefull book! This is probably one of the first books I've read by him, and I should read more! It definitely sets the scene, and it's *definitely* creepy. From what I remember of the movie, they did a pretty good job of it (compared to the book). Empty city, weird sounds, ringing phone, possesed dog.... the kid being killed at the end (awww).. but it is definitely a must-read. Keep the lights on....

Summary: Phantoms = a cure for insomnia
Review: Dean R. Koontz' novel Phantoms is about as entertaining as reading the departure schedule at an airport, the difference being that at least in the airport there is a sense of slight apprehension that something unexpected and awful might happen. My teenage daughter tossed the book at me after 42 pages summing it up with "REALLY boring." I plunged in, determined to get my money's worth and after 340 pages, nearing the un-climatic end, I too have given up hope of being impressed by the author's ability to produce a story worth my time to read and have regaled it to the recycle bin of our apartment building... I don't dislike anyone enough to even halfheartedly recommend this word-filled outhouse accessory except as a cure for insomnia. Koontz' characters have as much depth as cardboard figures and I was grateful when they were terminated from the unending, unimaginative and repetitive script. His weak attempts at frightening the reader such as: electricity going off and on, (scary?) silence on the phone line or/and benign animal noises that sometimes turn ugly (scary) or a town of bloodless corpses re-described repeatedly throughout the book (scary!) oh, and let's not forget the giant moth that flies in for a cameo appearance (now THAT was scary! scary!). And in fact, if none of the "scary" items got your attention the first time around, Koontz, like an annoying schoolboy, figures he'll parade the same tired 'prank' again and again... and again - hoping to elicit a reaction at some point. Now that IS scary. My advice, if your looking for something well written and suspenseful and entertaining... look elsewhere. I highly recommend James Patterson's excellent mindbenders.

Summary: Definitely a page turner
Review: This was the first Dean Koontz book that I'd read, and perhaps the best praise to the quality of his novel is that I plan to read another one. Phantoms also marked the first real horror novel that I read, and I found it to be very captivating. Koontz does a very good job with suspenseful writing, and there was not a single dull moment in the book. From chapter one to the very last page, there is always some type of action occurring. This fast pace made the book a quick read, and one that I was anxious to finish so that I could see what the conclusion was. The plot was fairly good, though I do wish they could have been a few more characters that lived to the end of the book. Character development was reasonably good, but there wasn't much of a need for it since most of them ended up dying. The mystery of what happened to the town of Snowfield is one that keeps the reader interested, but the creature that finally turns out to be the culprit is a bit vague. No definite conclusions are drawn at the end of the book, which is somewhat of a let down. The events leading up to the end were actually more exciting than the conclusion itself, so the book was somewhat anticlimactic. Despite this, the book was, all and all very good, and I look forward to reading some of the others in the series.

Summary: Only the BEST BOOK THAT EVER HAS OR EVER WILL BE WRITTEN
Review: I first bought this book during the summer of 1999. I seen only a few previews for the movie, and one of my friends recommended it. Other than that, I had no idea of what it was like. As I said, I bought the book, and began reading it. I was hoping like crazy that it was the same story as the movie, not some book with the same title. So I read it in about three days, and I was SCARED. It was the MOST AMAZING book I have ever read, had the most memorable characters, and had the most incredible story ever. The suspense began on page 1, and never let me free until the end... Actually, the suspense is still holding me, since the story is so haunting. If you ever want to read a book full of horror, suspense, action, romance, humor, and the battle between good and evil, read PHANTOMS. And for God's sake, if you go to your home town and see it is completely devoid of people, RUN LIKE THE WIND! Something may be watching you...

Summary: First Koontz book I read.
Review: This was the first Koontz book that I read, it was perhaps the best book I have read. Once I started reading this book, I could not put it down. I was hooked right from the first page, to the last. I would recommend this book to all. The movie did not even come close to the real thing. If you saw the movie, please get the book and read it. You will not be sorry I promise.....

Summary: One of his best! Don't judge by the movie!
Review: Ok, I know you saw the movie Phantoms and thought, "Oh God what a horrible piece of trash, I'm glad I never read the book."

But there you'd be wrong. This book is, in my opinion, one of Koontz's best pieces of work. He masters tension and dialogue brilliantly enough to keep you turning page after page to the end.

I love a good scare and this book managed to do it for me.

So if you want to try a Koontz novel, or you're an avid fan and haven't read this book yet, then I highly suggest you give this one a try.

Cheers!

Summary: Spine tingling front to back reading
Review: This was the first Koontz book I pick up and I haven't stop reading him since. As I pick up the book I was immediately hooked on the story. Then by the end of the first chapter I was so creeped out that I couldn't continue. But I couldn't NOT continue. I just had to know what happen to that town! Koontz kept that stomach clenching feeling all the way through to the end and I could relax until I finish. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys being scared and appreciate GREAT writing.

For more psychological thrillers you should continue reading Koontz books. I would recommend: Lightning, The Funhouse, Face of Fear, Intensity, Mr. Murder, Midnight, etc.

Summary: THE BEST BOOK I HAVE EVER READ (Just About)
Review: This has to be the most suspenseful, terrifying, and eerie book I have ever read. The very thought that immediately brews in your head at the last three words in the book ("But what if...") give such a chilling feeling to the reader that this may be the explanation for some of the world's mass disappearances. The spooky atmosphere it presents is astonishing. This is my favorite Dean Koontz book, and probably, for the time, anyway, my favorite book of all. Good job, Mr. Koontz!!
