Rating: Summary: Scary! Review: This is a story about a woman who takes her younger sister to visit her in her small, picturesque town. When they arrive the streets are silent and not a soul is in sight. Soon they find dead bodies. Who or what caused the death of every individual in the town? This story is similar to Michael Chricton's Outbreak, only with a supernatural twist. There are plenty of scares and interesting plot twists. This is a great Koontz book.
Rating: Summary: Dark Evil Things Review: Phantoms is a well-written story. Dean Knootz can write a novel and you can imagine the whole book in your mind second by second. The two main characters in the book, Jennifer and Lisa, are traveling to Jennifer's Home in Snowfield. When they reach there, everything looks empty and quiet. But they explore the town a little bit more and realize something evil has taken over the town. Jennifer calls the local police, but this is a situations the police can't handle. So a team of scientists are called to fix this evil. The characters in this book are well described and developed, and everything that happens in the book is described with such detail you can picture it clearly in your mind. The only truly bad thing to this book is that it had to end. Even though it is a strange book it is very entertaining and keeps you on your feet. This book should be read by all Dean Knootz fans, or any thriller/horror fans. But if you are lazy and don't want to read the book, you can rent the movie. The movie was good, but the book takes the movie and elabortaes more than the movie and takes you on a ride you hopefully will never forget.
Rating: Summary: MY FIRST Review: I have been away from reading for a number of years. My FIRST book to pick up was PHANTOMS...........WOW................I could not put this book down.............it took me to ends of EARTH............GOOD and EVIL........into the minds of everyday people and lives.....guess NO ONE IS PROMISED TOMORROW......
Rating: Summary: AWESOME Review: Koontz has really out done himself this time!! I found myself reading this book before going to sleep-- big mistake--absolutely frightning!! A real page turner and fast paced!! Keeps the reader interested until the very last page!!Highly recommended to anyone who wants a quick read and a scare!!
Rating: Summary: one of his best Review: I was quiet impressed with this book because I felt the book caught my intrest right away. This book is well written, and also well orgainized, I rate this the best book I have read from him so far!
Rating: Summary: HORRIFIC movie, EXCELLENT book Review: I love the kind of books that scare you in the middle of the night, and this is definitely one of them. I was really excited when I saw the movie at the local Blockbuster but oh man, what a dissapointment.. This book is a definite must have
Rating: Summary: PURE MONSTER FUN! THE ANCIENT ENEMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: This is one of my favorite Dean Koontz books! The story of a town, slaughtered by an unknown force is one of the scariest I have ever read! The Ancient Enemy gives credence to every possible fear. The creepiest part of the book isn't in the action the readers experience, but thinking about what it must have been like for the helpless citizens of Snowfield during the couple of days they fought the indescribable horrors that came for them in what was once the safety of their homes! The description of the corpses that are found by the band of remaining living is done in typical Koontz fashion, that in the squeamish would induce a flow of vomit and in the mind of an adolescent boy a hearty cry of "Damn, that's cool!" Well, since I was the latter and have never been the former when I read this I must say that this is one cool novel. Almost impossible to put down once you've started reading, the action is so unrelenting. And you actually care about the characters. Now be forewarned, the movie made from this book is disappointing in comparison. But it's not a total loss, so read the book first, allow your shivers from reading to subside and then go RENT the movie. You should enjoy it, but as for the BOOK, buy it in hardcover if you can because it's a book that demands repeated readings! The Ancient Enemy says so!
Rating: Summary: One of Koontz's stronger works Review: This is definately a worthwhile read. With some books I love Koontz, and with others I can't stand him (Intensity--loved him; Fear Nothing--Couldn't stand him.) This is definately a loveable book. He took an interesting take on the history of dissappearing cultures (Roanoke colony, Bermuda Triange, Myan City, etc.) This book definately has it's creepy moment; the two that got under my skin were walking down an alleyway with the feeling of being watched from above and below, and the "sink" scene. Don't judge this novel by the horrible movie that was made based on it; that would be far less than fair. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
Rating: Summary: Hooked on Koontz Review: This was the first book I read that was written my Koontz and I went on to read almost every other book he's written. Very scary! His characters are real and, as in most of Koontz's books, you feel like (just maybe) this could really happen. One of his (many) best!
Rating: Summary: Dean Koontz is a very capable writer Review: This book is in my opinion very good. But remember that this is my opinion on the matter(as I have read some of the other reviews, which rated it pretty bad). Dr. Jennifer Paige and her forteen year old sister Lisa, arrive in Jenny's hometown of Snowfield, CA to discover that it's completly devoid of life. When they go into her house, they discover the first body; Jenny's housekeeper. Her body isn't like anything that Jenny has seen before. The body is swelled up and bruised completly. They run next door only to find the occupants aren't there. As they search through the town, they discover the same thing: swelled bodies or nothing at all. They eventully call Sheriff Bryce Hammond into the mess, and that's when the fun begins. A very good novel, and one of Koontz's best. I liked it because of it's suspense, action, and drama. I hope who ever reads it will like it too.
