Rating: Summary: WONDERFUL, HORRIFIC COLLECTION OF STORIES Review: "Haunted America" is a brilliant collection spine-tingling supposedly true ghost stories from all the corners of America. The best are the music room in Illinois and the mansion straight from the depths of hell in New Orleans. If you want a good scare read this book!

Rating: Summary: Too Many Examples from B & B Inns Review: As a member of the Fort Huachuca community, I was rather proud to see our own Charlotte as one of the featured ghosts but, on reading further and finding that some places earned mention of multiple ghosts, I wondered why mention was only made of the white woman Charlotte and not the Buffalo Soldier in the DoC office, which used to be the barracks for the 9th Cavalry, or the Buffalo Soldier who haunts the restaurant that used to be the local bordello. As I read further, however, I started to notice that the greatest majority of ghost stories WERE from Bed and Breakfast Inns or Restaurants or other public places that might find financial benefit from being mentioned in a book about hauntings. At this point, I began to become disillusioned about the stories.
Rating: Summary: Good but not scary Review: As an avid reader of ghost stories, I think this rates about average. It's definately entertaining and worth reading, I just didn't think it was very scary. Only a few stories were really terrifying. I don't agree about the bed and breakfast thing, that seems just kind of coincidence. I think the books by Joseph Citro are WAY creepier.
Rating: Summary: One of the best books ever published Review: Haunted America by Beth Scott and Michael Norman was one of the most exciting and most interesting books I've ever read. It kept me on the edge of my chair ever time I read it. If you're looking for a great book and something that will scare you a little definitely buy this book.
Rating: Summary: A Very Good Book Review: Haunted America provides the reader with tales of the supernatural from each state and Canada. This is not a bad idea. The problem is that some of the stories are just too well known to really hold the reader's attention -- such as the Jersey Devil, the White House hauntings, and the ghostly happenings on board the Queen Mary. For example, instead of focusing on the Jersey Devil, the authors could have given an account of the ghosts that supposedly haunt the Spy House Museum in New Jersey. Focusing on well known tales of the supernatural detracts from this book -- especially when there are other, more interesting stories to chose from. That being said, there are times when the authors actually feature a lesser known account. When this happens, the book really works -- to the delight of the reader. For example, some of the more interesting stories include tales about the Marfa Lights in Texas or the family that was tormented by a poltergiest in 1958 ("Ordinary People. . . "). These stories are not as widely known as the Jersey Devil. Consequently, the readers stay interested and focused.

Rating: Summary: A Great Book! Review: I am almost done reading "Haunted America". What I most appreciate was the extensive researches both the authors have done regarding this book. The stories are engrossing and when you go to the last pages, you can find a bibliography in which you can find all the sites, pieces of journals, références, etc, about the researches done concerning the hauntings. And, for me, this book was also very educational regarding the History of various places in U.S and Canada. Yes, I read it at night and, not being particularly scared usually, I must admit I did 'Jumped' at times when hearing noises in the house. :) I also like the fact that this book contains over 500 pages and deliver the reader with hours of enjoyement. (I want to apologize for my autograph, 'french speaking', sorry for any mistake).

Rating: Summary: Lacks pazazz Review: I love good ghost stories, especially those that put you on edge. I bought the book primarily for the Montana stories, which by themselves proved disappointing. I have a masters degree in science and have found some of the logic used completely erroneous. An example of this is the explanation of lightning and "neutrons" in the first story. Over all, the book has potential but falls short.
