Summary: I didn't expect it to be this good!
Review: When I first saw the cover of this book, and since I hadn't heard much about Brian Lumley in horror circles (all the attention is on Stephen King (deservedly) and Dean Koontz (undeservedly)) I wasn't sure if this would be a trash horror novel or not. I bought a copy at a second-hand store but it wasn't until years later that I got around to reading it. I wish I'd started it sooner! This is a damn fine story no question about it. Its not the most moving reading experience of my life but why complain? Its exciting and imaginative with well thought out characters (especially Dragosani) and unexpected plot twists. Also there are about 12 more in the series, and most fans seem to think that the series doesn't lose its quality as it goes along, great! I'm really glad to have another good series to work on and that I don't have to wait and wait for the next book to come out, unlike Stephen King's Dark Tower and Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time. This really is a good book and it deserves popular recognition instead of a mere cult following. Oh, and don't compare this to Anne Rice's vampire chronicles, this is a much different kind of story and not nearly as boring and unimaginative.

Summary: No Vampire Series Is Better Than This.
Review: "~Of all the books I have ever read, nothing has affected me more than Brian Lumley's work. I loved the Necroscope series so much, I read everything else the guy has put out. Not everything he writes is great, but most is."~ that Lumley's vampires are none of those. Lumley treats the vampire myth as they should, as hideously evil monsters."~ older he is recruited into the special British Spy organization 'E-Branch'. They specialize in all forms of strange phenomena and extraordinary talents. Boris however, is recruited by the Russian version of E-Branch. This is when the novel starts turning into more of a spy novel. Each government trying to outdo each other. It was a little distracting (I'm not much for spy novels, actually, I've never read one!) but I made do."~ scopes of their powers. Harry masters the 'Mobius Continuum' which he learned from the late mathematician Mobius himself (according to Harry, the dead continue what they did in life...mathmaticians dream up formulae unheard of, archetects build outstanding structures, writers keep on writing)."~ on the other hand learns how to torture the dead by mutilating their bodies and still causing them pain. This turns out to be a great asset as he uses this talent to extract information from the dead. The dead dread him, but love Harry (Harry's way of communicating with the dead is kind of like telepathy, causes no pain like Boris' technique)."~ minutes for someone to get my attention away from it. They just shook their head and said that they had to read it too!

Summary: Lumley gets back to basics with the infamous E-Branch gang!
Review: Brian Lumley continues his phenomenally imaginative Necroscope series in "Invaders", the 11th of a projected 13-book series. This time we're back on Earth as a NEW trio of Wamphyri (2 lords and a lady) try to implement a fiendish (and TOP-SECRET) plan to subjugate an unsuspecting, and seemingly DEFENSELESS, planet. SEEMINGLY defenseless, because they aren't counting on Lumley's E-Branch catching on to their plan. I've always been a big fan of the E-Branch characters, and I'm thrilled that they're being given a chance to shine in their own right. When I read about Ben, and Ian, and Zek and David, etc., I feel like I'm catching up with old friends. Less successful, in my opinion, was the NEW Necroscope- Jake Cutter. He was just as much of a cypher as Harry Keogh was; More of a way to move the story along than a character. The Vampires are the REAL movers and shakers here... The TRUE measure of Lumley's success with this book, indeed with the Necroscope series as a whole, is this- When I read the last chapters of the book, I was GENUINELY CONCERNED about the fates of the various characters. And that pretty much says it all.

Summary: A very good read ...
Review: H.P. Lovecraft meets Ian Fleming meets Kenneth Robeson. That is how I describe this masterful book. I have a hard time, however, calling it "Horror", although that is the best description for it. This book/series has a hard time placing itself into any genre, and that is one of the reasons it is special. This book is (clearly) not just for horror fans, but they shall enjoy it. The best part ... well ... one of the best parts ... is the totally new twist on the Vampire mythos. My only regret is that I have waited this long to read this. I have now started "Vamphyri, Necroscope part 2" and it is, so far, just as good (if not better) than "Necroscope", But I still suggest reading them in order. In closing I would like to add, that though I am not an avid reader, Necroscope has me hooked.
