Rating: Summary: An excellent idea moulded into a breath taking journey. Review: With this book Clive Barker has really achieved something amazing. He has actually managed to keep me reading from page 1 to 800+. This is by far the longest novel I have ever read, but I am glad that I reached the boundaries of the First Dominion and beyond. The character are so well fleshed out that thoughts of what will happen next play on your mind all day. I was truly riveted until the very last page. It twists and turns more than a fish caught on a hook. Truly one of his best yet.
Rating: Summary: Wow! Barker is as good as ever with Imajica Review: After getting hooked on Sacrament, I decided to try some of Barker's other books. I find it amazing how he takes what appear to be every-day, run-of-the-mill people and turns them into highly spiritual beings whose actions alter the physical and metaphysical world, while maintaining the regular pace of life in the background.
Rating: Summary: Two words: Mind F*ck Review: I can't explain it any other way. Barker can write like no one else today, maybe ever. This is a story much like Weaveword and The Great and Secret Show, also by Barker. It tells of a fantasy world, being explored by seemingly "normal" people, who must save the world from male agression and destruction. The stuff that this guy can think up is truely staggering, what an imagination! If anyone has ever seen "In The Mouth of Madness", you'd swear this guy is Sutter Cain. This stuff gets in your head like a bloodworm, and you're not the same afterwards. His takes on religion, sexuality, and gender relations are really deeply ingraned in all his works, and this one is the tops. Read with care.
Rating: Summary: Barker is better than nearly everyone out there! Review: Let me start off by saying that I am not a big horror fan. Though I don't really consider any of his novels to be horror, that is the section I always find him in. I don't know if this is his best book, but it's up there. I read it a year ago so my memory is kind of hazy. I do remember that this book set me down right alongside the main characters and took me for a ride. I could not put it down. Being a fairly slow reader, it usually takes me around three days or so to read a book (the books I normally read are on average, five hundred pages or so), Imajica was a book I couldn't put down. I read it on one Sunday, and I can honestly say that. It still shocks me that I could sit still long enough to finish it in one day. A MUST read.
Rating: Summary: UNBELIEVABLY ENGROSSING Review: This is a big book. It's not easy to get going, but good lord, it pulls you in. It's absolutely packed with imagination...it is unlike any other book I have ever read. It's fantastical, and yet I got more involved with the main characters than any book in a long time. YOU MUST READ THIS BOOK!
Rating: Summary: a story that shatters all boundaries of imagination Review: Imajica is the best of Clive Barkers work and without question the most fantastic book I have ever read. Never before have I felt like I was WITH the main character as I did while traveling the dominions. Whether beautiful or grotesque, common or bizarre, everything felt real. The power of Barkers writing is unsurpassed. His imagination is extraordinary, and I thank him for sharing his worlds and visions with the rest of the world. Do yourself a favor and READ THIS BOOK.
Rating: Summary: It Will Open Your Mind and Unlock Your Imagination Review: I read Weaveworld, and wanted more. Imajica gave me that as well as unlocking my imajination and mind to thoughts and ideas that I had never tried to expolore before. I was so impressed by this book that I have read almost every word Clive Barker has published. This book made me want to read more, not just of his work but of many works. It removes your hesitation towards other worlds and topics you may have considered taboo before. I have become a better person (inside) than I was before I read this book. I highly recommend reading it.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic!!! Review: Imajica is simply the greatest book I have ever read! This is a tale of epic proportions. Clive Barker's prose is astounding, and his imagination is undeniably the greatest I ever have encountered. The characters in Imajica provoked thoughts and feelings that surpassed any reaction I had received from a book before. I would dream of the story and its players at night and every waking second I was either reading this book or wanting to get back to reading it. When I finished Imajica, I was left wondering what would happen in the lives of the characters. Clive Barker is a genius, and Imajica is, in my opinion, his finest work. A masterpiece!
Rating: Summary: Imajica is definately the best of all his work. Excellent! Review: Clive Barker has written quite a few classics in his time, such as "Rawhead Rex," and other great short stories. Imajica, however, places Barker on a completely new level of writing. This is definately the best science fiction I have read in years. It is extremely vivid and original. Highly recommended!
Rating: Summary: Jaw-droppingly good, Barker hits the mother lode Review: I have a very short list of books that I would read over and over. Imajica is on that list. It's not for everyone -- it contains intense, graphic sex and violence -- but the sheer power of the ideas contained in this book make it Barker's finest yet. Gentle and Pye 'oh' Pah, the Five Dominions, the Great God Hepaximendios...I could go on and on. Suffice to say that Imajica is a dizzying, whirling tour-de-force that is impossible to put down. Wow.
