Summary: Great Read...Recommended!
Review: This is my all-time favourite Christopher Pike book, and quite possible my favourite book in general. This superb blend of horror, science-fiction, and fantasy captivates the reader the whole way through and the story-within-a-story concept encourages the reader to keep on reading to find out what happens to Chaneen's kingdom and Lauren's expedition to Mars. I would recommend this book to anyone who has an open mind (don't you just hate those stubborn people who refuse to enjoy something different). I remember when I first read this book two summers ago, I was enchanted and unable to put it down (I even ignored my girlfriend), and since, I have lent it to all my friends. Please, read this. It is an extraordinary read and it changed my life.

Summary: Almost impossible to put down! A real thrill ride!
Review: My daughter has been reading Christopher Pike for years and insisted that I MUST read this book. The BEST she's ever read. She is right! I am a science fiction buff, not into "horror" that much, but this book has it all-well written believable science fiction, chilling horror, and intriguing fantasy. The characters are so well defined that you feel for them. You are rooting for each person in the book, even though you know they aren't all going to make it. Pike has woven an intricate compelling story that is a must read for anybody who likes good storytelling of any variety. And there is just enough of a scare to keep the light on at night. The only negative is that the ending of the book leaves you wanting just a little more, it ended without much excitement. All in all this book was incredible.

Summary: Updating an old review
Review: I reviewed this book back in July of 2002 using lots of cheesy descriptors and verbosity. Well, I still love the book as much as ever, although this time I'm not compelled to launch into any cliches.

I DO however want to expand more on what you might THINK you know about this book. Pike is well known as an author of teen horror, but this is not a young adult novel. I feel that Pike's established reputation as a teen horror writer actually could have hurt this book because it makes it less likely to be taken seriously by adult readers and the literary community in general. It is most definitely for a mature audience and can MORE than hold its own for content and quality against the novels of any other respected authors of adult fiction. I find myself shocked that this book was never "discovered" by the literary community because it is really quite brilliant. Like most of the reviewers I grew up reading Pike's YA fiction and was actually a little surprised by this book, which is a very mature and adult story. You probably want me to get to some point, so here it is: This is NOT a young adult novel so please do not disregard it just because of Pike's reputation as a teen horror author. Don't make the mistake of the general literary community and overlook this book based on your preconceived notions about Pike's work.

On to another point. I was reading the reviews, and I was overwhelmed by a common thread that repeated over and over. Snippets like "I've read this book x number of times"... "I'm on my second copy because I read my first one out" ... "this is my favorite book of all time"... "10 years later this is still the best book I've ever read"... What's my new point? I see very few books with reviews that are so repetitive and consistent in such a manner. Almost everyone who discovers this book finds it to be something really special and worth coming back to over and over. Maybe one lone reviewer could be nuts, but take a quick look over the reviews, and you'll discover that almost all of us are saying the same thing. So give it a shot.

READ THIS BOOK.

Summary: Most touching and insightful book ever created.
Review: The Season of Passage by Christopher Pike is probably the most eye opening book ever written. He makes you see things that you probably never really considered before. We think we know so much and yet we know nothing. The characters are so beautifully created that you feel as though you know them. You cry when they are sad and laugh when something funny happens. I have read this book at least 3 times and have found something different that I had not noticed the first time each time I've read it. I don't beleive that anyone could read this book and not question everything that they have learned about humanity and other things. I beleive that people like Jennifer really do exist in the world and that maybe we are not as cold and cruel a race as one would think. That belief in this special kind of person is what makes living everyday worth it. Her character also gives me hope, that we do have some form of Guardian watching over us. Christopher Pike is a very special author with a special view of our world (seen in other books he's written). I think that maybe he is much more perceptive of the world than most people ever will be.

Summary: VERY SCARY AND WELL WRITTEN!
Review: I've read almost all of Christopher Pikes adult and young adult books, this was my favorite. The story starts right away, and after you've begun you won't be able to put it down until your finished. It's a back-prickler, sure to have you checking under your bed at night. The story-within-a-story setup goes perfectly with this book, it keeps you guessing until the end what will happen to Chaneen and her kingdom, and Lauren on Mars. The story take place in the future when and a group of scientists and astronauts decide to travel to Mars to see if there really is other life forms, and what became of the last group that took this voyage. What they find will shock you. You'll want to read it over and over again. Along with the Mars plot, another story relating to this book is written by one of the characters, Lauren's little sister. How they all tie together will amaze you. If this book doesn't frighten you, you probably didn't read it. Mr. Pike has really outdone himself with this novel, I still can't believe it didn't win more awards. It may seem far-fetched at first but once you really get into it, it becomes kind of real. All of these reasons are why I gave it a definete 5 star rating.

Summary: Poetically wriitten, thought provoking, emotion inducing
Review: Have you ever read a book and felt that you knew the story? That perhaps it has always been there, just waiting to be written? The Season of Passage is THAT book. It is by far the most beautifully written, thought provoking, emotion inducing book that I have ever read. Words fall short when trying to describe it. It is a novel of horror, yet also of salvation. It is science fiction and romance at the same time. While this may seem at first glance to be contradictory, Mr. Pike manages to make it all fit beautifully together. There is no way for a description of this book to do it justice. It simply has to be read, the words felt. Only then can you understand the impact that this book has on its readers. I can promise that you will laugh, cry, question your view of things you always thought impossible, and feel all of the emotions of the characters as if you, too were there. This is a book that is so unforgettable that IT BECOMES A PART OF YOU.

Summary: Great book
Review: Don't just put this book back on the shelf because it looks to long or it looks like sci-fi it's not. Yes this is one of Pike's thicker books butit is still amazing. At first I could'nt really get into it but soon I felt like I was seeing everything through their eyes. This book was about Dr.Lauren Wagner and she went on a space mission to mars but their is a problem an alien virus that she thinks killed the russions and she is worried it might affect her crew as well. If you like this book I would suggest you read The Starlight Crystle also by Chris Pike they have much in common and I have read them both and found them both great reads. Sure this book takes awhile to get into the plot but as soon as you do it seems so real the book seems thick but once you get into it I wished it was longer so don't overlook this book because it's one of Pike's finest. Happy Reading!

Summary: Exceptionally Creative Story
Review: I don't know why I was drawn to review a book that I read so many years ago, except to say, I wish that I had never read it just so I could experience it all over again.

Without a doubt, this is hands down, my favorite Christopher Pike book, and I've read them all. This is a powerful and masterfully created story and I agree with one of the reviewers that it has gone ignored by the literary world.

I felt sucked into the story from page one--Pike's straight forward writing style works well for those of us who are "sci fi challenged."

Emotionally, readers will be drawn by curiosity to the characters as they prepare for and explore Mars. There are also several creepy moments and a wonderful backdrop of foreboding for mystery and horror fans alike. Even romance fans will feel thrilled by the "love" sub-plots.

This book still works well today, especially considering it took place in 2004. Mars is as fascinating and mysterious as it was ten years ago and lays out a captivating landscape for the drama in this novel. After first reading this book, I thought it would make a wonderful movie. It's too bad that there are so many other horrible Mars associated movies (with none of the suspense and craftily created characters of Pike's work) that have sinced played out.

Summary: Fantastic
