Rating: Summary: Don't Miss Out on a wonderful book! Review: I loved this book. I loved the sequel. It was a thriller but it was als had a very soft human side. It brought a very interesting critique on life, death and mortality. The sequel was amazing. The type of book you don't want to end. I passed mine along . . . twice!
Rating: Summary: I'd give it even more if I could. A MUST READ! Review: I just read MSTK for the second time and know its only a matter of time before I pick it up again. Due is such a gifted storyteller, I found myself pausing as I read and wondering, in amazement, how she was able to create such a fascinating tale. The story is gripping, complex and unique--words I seldom use to describe contemporary fiction. Ms. Due has a lifelong fan here. And I'm certain that I'm not the only one!
Rating: Summary: My Soul to Keep Review: This novel was on my "to read list" for a couple of months before I finally checked it out at the library. I checked it out three times afterward, and finally they said I couldn't check it out! That is when I knew I had to own the book. The story of David/Dawit and Jessica, and the Life Brothers of Lalibela is one of the most compelling stories I have ever read. The characters were so real to me that sometimes I found myself dreaming of them. Tananarive Due is an amazing, gifted writer. It's been a long time since I have read a novel that totally captivated me from the beginning. I get sooo tired of reading the same novels OVER AND OVER again, about people who can't find a man, or people cheating on their mates. The same he/say she say drama that has proliferated black fiction, unfortunately. Here comes Ms. Due, a new voice in speculative fiction, to rescue people like me from boredom! Thank you, thank you! I was there, in Ethiopia and Miami with the characters, all the way! Everyone should read this novel and definitely go see the movie!
Rating: Summary: I'm hooked on Tananarive Review: This book was given to me by a friend because I had just finish reading Grisham's The Bretheren and I expressed my disenchantment with the novel. I went into My Soul to Keep slowing and before I knew it I couldnt put the book down. I loved Dawit even more than Jessica did.. and Kira! The story floated me in and out of the present and I found myself anticipating where the sequel(s) would take us! Kindred was one of my favorite books and MSTK has easily joined the ranks of my favorite stories. If you like Anne Rice and her magnificent vampire stories, then MSTK is along the same vein with even more SOUL and COLOR because it was written by a sister. Can't wait to see Mr Perfect (Blair Underwood) hit the big screen... I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a well told tale.
Rating: Summary: Enraptured Review: This is one of those books that while you read your eyes may be burning, you know you have to get up at 5:30 am the next morning and you still have to do some chores around the house, but you just DON'T CARE. There is nothing that could tear that book from my hands. This is my first book by this author and I can't even pronounce her name correctly, but I am a fan for life. The book started off with a sense of mystery and suspence. Things on the surface seemed okay, but I knew, as anyone who reads this book will know, that things are just not as they seem. Then Tananarive took me on the ride of my life. I wanted so much to hate Dawit and I just couldn't. I wanted Jessica to get away from him and then I wanted her to stay with him forever. "Forgive him, he loves you!" I screamed and cried. Why won't these people listen to me. Dawit is an immortal who has lived for over 500 years when we meet him. Jessica is a reporter with a loving family. When a story she's working on leads her to find out about Dawit and who he is, especially how he fits into her life, all hell breaks loose. This book takes the reader, especially me, on an emotional roller coaster. There were times when I had to put the book down saying that I just can't take it anymore, but it wouldn't be ten seconds before I picked it up again. Tananarive made every character so real that I couldn't help but care for each of their well being. Another great characteristic of her writing is that I never wanted to skip part because they were boring. I may have wanted to skip ahead to see what would happen, but never because a part was too boring or too wordy. In summing up my review, I really don't want to say anything that will give away the story or plot, but this story reminded me of Octavia Butler's work. Even though I am not the type that really goes for science fiction or anything in that ilk, but this book had me out of breath, crying, scared and best of all, it left me wanting more. I urge you all to read this book.
Rating: Summary: The best thrill Review: This book is excellent. It is a must read. You will not be able to put back on your shelf until the last page is read.
Rating: Summary: Engrossing Review: Well i have just finished reading this remarkable book. This is the first book of Ms. Due's novels that i have ever read and i will definiely will remain a fan.. Ms Due, keep up the good work.... I would love to see this book play out on the big screen.
Rating: Summary: Modern immortals Review: This has been one of the best page turners I have ever read. As a reader of the Vampire Chronicles, I enjoyed the even more modern portrayal of immortals created by Due. What the book lacks in developing the group of immortals themselves it makes up for in a fast-paced storyline with ceaseless suspense.
Rating: Summary: I've read it multiple times! Review: "My Soul to Keep" was my first experience with Ms. Due, and it's got me hooked--I absolutely loved it! Ms. Due's powerful writing style allows me to experience the vast range of emotion of the characters each time I read it--sweaty palms, racing heart, tearing eyes, laughter,sadness--I can go on and on. I can't wait to read her other works.
