Summary: READ THIS BOOK - It's like buffy only better.
Review: It didn't take me very long to read this book, I couldn't put it down. It is never ending read, that quite often leaves you hanging at the end of chapters. Although I am a big fan of buffy, as well as vampire novels, this one takes the prize. It offers interesting insight into the life of Anita Blake - Vampire Slayer. Not only does she have to face the toils of everyday life, she has to deal with demons and vampires at night. It is definetally a whirlwind of fun and adventure that never ends. I certainly recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of tales of the undead.

Summary: Buffy who?
Review: I read this book over the past couple of days and came out entertained. It's definately not high literature, but in its role it succeeds. I don't think I'd pay retail for it, but if you have a coupon or find it used, take a read. :)

Summary: Kinsey Milhone squared
Review: This book appeared as a recommendation on my list and willing to try a new author I picked up this book. Anita Blake, an animator and "Executioner", finds herself unwillingly helping the sort of people (vampires) she consciously would not have chosen. Anita is now neck deep in ghouls, corpses, gris-gris and master vampires. I always look forward to an author who has a female protagonist who is equal parts tough cookie and cream puff. Anita Blake can kick your [rear] faster than you can say...well [rear], and yet dangle a penguin in front of her and she is happy (Ms. Blake collects penguins). The only reason why I rated this book 4 stars is due to the rate in which Anita dispatched what is described as a "master vampire". I find it a bit of a stretch to imagine an immortal being, who is capable of stripping your mind, being distracted by two persons--and human at that. Despite that I genuinely enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more of the series.

Summary: I fell in love
Review: This was a great book. I fell in love with Philip and cried when he died. I cheered Anita on as she slayed his killer. I can't say I would want to be Anita Blake. But, it is captivating to read her adventure. I could hardly wait to read each page. This book took me into a fantasy world, allowed me to feel for each character and form my opinions of each character as if I were there. As if I was Anita Blake. Maybe there is a little Anita Blake in me after all.

Summary: Introduction to the World of Anita Blake
Review: Guilty Pleasures is the first book in the Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton. Anita Blake is a necromancer & vampire slayer in a world where vampires, zombies and werewolves are a part of everyday life. The books are self described as an R-rated Buffy the Vampire Slayer and I would say that is a pretty accurate description. Guilty Pleasures serves to introduce Anita's world. It's a fast read that grabs you from the very beginning. If you're a fan of Buffy you'll definitely want to read these. I recommend reading them in order starting with Guilty Pleasures followed by The Laughing Corpse and Circus of the Damned.

Summary: Erotic and Thrilling !
Review: What relly makes Hamiltons books is her characters, it doesn't matter what they are Vampire, Human, Shapeshifter nd any mix of those and more, it's how they realte to the world Hamilton has built for them and the relationships they have between each other.

I have almost read every book in the series and I am still as hooked as when I first started. I just want more more more !!!
Her books are all so completely seperate from each other yet also completely connected. Hamilton doesn't spend all her time on Anita either, certain books are focused on building other characters as well. I guess it's a lot like real life in that sense you slowly get to know people better some are only there for a short time and others stick around for good.

Hamiltons books have a little bit of every genre to them, although I have to admit the thriller\mytery & Eroticism is what really draws me in. Some fans don't like the amount of sex in her books, but I don't find it overwhelming and it doesn't seem to be superfluous.

Please, Please give this book a go and read them in order you will not be disappointed !

Summary: A Pleasure, Indeed
Review: I finally decided to try out the Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton. To tell you the truth, I don't know what took me so long. It is described as an R-rated Buffy The Vampire Slayer and, being a huge fan of that show, I should have known I would like this series.

The first thing I noticed besides the similarities to Buffy, were the similarities to the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich (I call this series the "supernatural Evanovich"). Both series are about petite young women who are soft on the outside but tough on the inside. And boy, is Anita tough. She's a vampire slayer, or vampire hunter, or actually the technincal term is "executioner". But that is actually just a side-job. Her real job is as an animator: someone who raises the dead. Yep. She kills vampires, yet raises zombies. Make sense? Not really. But who cares? Either way, her job is a real handful - especially when she gets called in to help the local cops from time to time to help solve preternatural crimes. On top of that, she has a very powerful vampire (the sexy Jean-Claude) who has the hots for her, but she'd just as soon stake him - and she would if it weren't for one little thing...

And here is where the twist comes in: in Laurell K. Hamilton's world, vampirism is legal - and killing a vampire is not. Anita can only kill a vampire when she gets a death warrant for one that has committed murder. This makes things extrememly difficult when the city's master vampire comes after her. The greatest thing about the master vampire (who is supposed to be the oldest and most powerful vampire) is that her name is Nikolaos, and when she was turned into a vampire over 1,000 years ago, she was only 10 or 11. Since vampires never physically age, Nikolaos still looks like a little girl.

This first book is great, and I finished it in no time. It's one of those books that grabs you, and doesn't let go until you finish. It's a good, light read, even for someone who isn't a vampire fan. I, personally, am not. I have never been able to get into any of Ann Rice's novels. Maybe the reason I like Hamilton's series is because they are quick and easy, suspensful, and sometimes witty. Now, I don't mind fine literature that is deep and has symbolism and all that great stuff, but sometimes you just want to read something that's light and fun, and this is it. Guilty? Yes - of not giving this series a chance sooner.

Summary: Awsome!!
Review: A real exiting book! Rivals Buffie any day!! Not a whole lot of erotic seans (must read Mary Gentry series for that type of thing) but otherwise very good and very well written. Anita Blake is cool, sarcastic, sensible, funny...

Summary: First in the Anita Blake series.
Review: This book is something of a cross between a hard-boiled detective novel and a horror novel, with a touch of sci-fi thrown in for good measure. The setting is basically the modern world (St. Louis no less, a point in its favor; it's fun to see a book set in one's hometown for a change) except that all sorts of mythological horrors actually exist, and have become generally known: vampires, werewolves, zombies, ghouls, wererats, etc. I'm not enamored of this concept; it seems to me to lose some of the mystique of the supernatural if they're too much a mundane part of life. And really, the only character in the book that I like is the main character, Anita Blake. But her I like a LOT; she's a marvellously compelling character, and the writing is wonderful, far better than that in Anne Rice or Chelsea Quinn Yarbro, authors of the two other vampire series with which I'm familiar. I prefer the historical settings Yarbro gives us, and there are more characters in her books that I feel a connection to. But her writing is nowhere near as good as Hamilton's. And Anne Rice takes herself (or at least, her writing) way too seriously for my taste; the character of Anita has an irreverent sense of humor that I absolutely love.

Also, if you're a fan of "traditional" vampire stories, you'll prefer this to Yarbro's; the vampires are mostly villains, rather than the misunderstood heros of the Saint-Germain series. They also retain more of their traditional supernatural powers. On the other hand, if you like to empathize with the vampires, this book isn't for you; the main character is a vampire slayer, not a vampire.

The sexual content in this book is basically PG, maybe PG-13. But the violence is probably at the "R" rating, not too severe for a vampire novel, but certainly not for the squeamish.
