Rating: Summary: loves it! Review: This book contains adult content, not suitable for young readers, blah blah blah. Although this book isn't a kids book, by any means, it is not overly graphic. I am only 14 and I loved it! It is very interesting how a master vampire is portrayed in the body of an adolecent, and yet she has the mind of a killer. Somehow Laurell K. Hamilton managed to take the most unimaginably sweet kid and turn her into the scariest character in any of Laurell's books. This is my favorite Laurell K. Hamilton book.P.S. this is only my second review, so please tell me if it helped
Rating: Summary: Look out- Anita Blake will change your life!! Review: This is the beginning of Anita Blake. Her stories changed my life and opened me up to a whole new fictional world. I thought I knew a good book before I read Laurel K. Hamilton's work- but I knew nothing. All of the Anita Blake books are excellent. I love the characters and the situations she is faced with. I have loaned the whole series out to several friends who read them cover to cover and enjoy them as much as I do. If you have not read them yet, you really should.
Rating: Summary: fun start Review: The Beginning of a fun series. This book introduces one of my favorite all time characters, Anita Blake. This book has its problems, but once it gets rolling it is a quick fun read. The good news is that the series just gets better from here. The 11th book in the series is now coming out, but start from the beginning. All of the books are worth checking out.
Rating: Summary: Must read Review: Must read. I have read all of the series. It was wonderful. In the 11 years I have been married I have never seen my husband pick up a book. He is now almost done with the series. It makes you "blood thirsty" for more. Keep them coming.
Rating: Summary: Good book !!! Review: This is the 1st book in the "Anita Blake, vampire Hunter" series, written by Laurell K. Hamilton. Even if I still prefer Feehan's Dark series when I want to read something a little bit bizarre, Hamilton's books are a good option, and I think I will go on reading them. Anita Blake is a necromancer and a vampire hunter(the vampires call her The executioner), who helps the police solve crimes in her free time. She is quite beautiful, somewhat small and a big time feminist. Anita has an incredibly dry wit I find charming, and a strange ability to put herself in the most astonishing situations. The time frame for this book is sometime in the future, when vampires are legal citizens and live along with humans. They are protected by law, and can only killed (without comitting a crime) by legal order. The same happens with werewolfs, wererats and wereleopards. Anita lives in St. Louis, USA, and has a very active life. She has problems, like everybody, but somehow manages to deal with them. Those problems include, for example, that a vampire (Jean Claude) wants her to be his human servant (and his lover), other vampires want to kill her, she is constantly having shouting matches with her boss and her stepmother wants her to marry before she gets too old (she is 24 :) !!!). The plot of this book is rather simple, but it works. Anita gets blackmailed by some vampires, and as a result has to look into the deaths of some vampires, getting into all sorts of trouble because that. You cannot help but have lots of fun imagining how will she manage to get out of that mess!!!
Rating: Summary: Don't Let the Cover Throw You Off Review: Okay, I'm fifteen, and it's a little embarassing to be walking around school with someone's very yummy looking pelvis on the cover of a book with the title of 'Guilty Pleasures'. Who wouldn't be self-conscious about being seen with it? If you're not, then I salute you, O brave, mighty reader. It took me a while to give in to the temptation and check out this book. For one, it just screams sex. Now, while there are some very kinky and very interesting situations and problems in this book, the act is never done, nor is straight out sex ever seen. Not yet, anyway. ... Just to clear that up. And I'm very, very glad that I caved in and read this. Hamilton is hilarious and possesses the ability to show you the dark side with a believable twist to it. (Not realistic, just believable.) Hamilton's main character is Anita Blake, an animator: someone who kills vampires when the need arises and raises the dead for a short period of time in the form of a zombie. She's short, much to her resignation, has some wry humor, and as an animator has wicked instincts. She's also very capable of staying out of a vamp's mind control, which pisses off many of them. When the Master of the vamps in her city--a terrifying thousand-year-old preteen--blackmails Anita into working for her, the little animator finds herself chin-deep in trouble and sinking fast.
Rating: Summary: Damn this is a good book....... Review: I read this book and the whole series. Granted it took me a while but the whole series was GREAT. From Guilty Pleasures to Cerulean Sins. The way Anita is pertrayed and the way that the characters are put into the books are wonderful. This is the ONLY series that I was able to finish and LOVE. I was lucky to be able to meet Laurell K Hamilton when she came to the local book store. She resembled alot of Anita Blake.Take it from me.. go out and buy the books.
Rating: Summary: So Not Guilty.... Review: I didn't like the book.I just didn't fine it very apealing.I know that there are alot of fallowers or the series however it didn't captuer me.I found the characters too over dune and not very apealing.
Rating: Summary: Really good stuff..... Review: Okay-so I picked this up after reading a Maggie Shayne book and realizing that the Vampire plot line was an interesting one. I thought it would be fun to try out a new series. I have to tell you that this book was pretty good. I wasn't sure if I would like it but now in the past two day I have read the 2nd and 3rd book in the series. I am hooked! I love how sarcastic Anita Blake is. It absolutely amazes me that someone hasn't killed her by now. She just doesn't back down when it comes to dealing with the "bad" guys. Funny stuff, I laughed out loud at some parts. I thought there could have been a little more romance stuff, but by what the other book reviews say it looks like that will be in the future books. Overall I was impressed with this story and I am now on #4 and can't wait to read all 10 (Soon to be 11!)
Rating: Summary: Non-stop action and intrigue Review: I will just say that i LOVED this book! A friend of mine bought me a book further along in the Anite Blake Vampire Series and i found myself wanting to start at the beginning. I just had to know more about Anita Blake's character. This book was a definite page-turner, that caused me to unplug the phone and ignore the world for a few hours. Not only did the book keep my attention, it never lagged or lost my attention for a second. While i felt that i was missing out on something in Anita Blake's background as she starts off already bodily scarred and in the business of hunting vampires. Laurell K. Hamilton does a great job of introducing characters that are from Anita's past without a long history to confuse you. This is a definite must read for any one who loves thrillers, vampires or other creatures of the dark.
