Summary: Guilty Pleasures
Review: Depite the title of this book, sex has little to do in this book. Anita Blake is a kick-butt vampire executioner is asked by the vampire owner of the strip club "Guilty Pleasures", Jean-Claude, to investigate who is killing the local vampires. I couldn't put it down, it was a great story to read.

Summary: Excellent.....
Review: If you're a fan of night time excursions, then this is the book for you! Someone dark and sinister is preying upon the vampire community, and Anita Blake... affectionately know as "The Executioner", has been hired to find out who!

Not having much time to read during the day, I could hardly wait until the fall of night to see what would happen next in Guilty Pleasures. An excellent piece of work by Laurell K. Hamilton... I will definately be back for the rest of the "Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter" series.

Summary: Cool heroine and over-the-top action
Review: This is the first book in the "Anita Blake" series of mysteries, set in a universe filled with vampires, werewolves (and other were-beings), zombies, and necromancers. Each book is fast-paced, absorbing, action-packed, and over-the-top -- it grabs on and doesn't let go. And I just love Anita herself -- she's a tough, ...heroine who still remains human and real. She's just an utterly cool character. Read the book for her alone, if for no other reason!

Summary: This Book Rules!!!!!
Review: I Know, I know a book about vamps. But this one kicks ass! I've read alot of books and this one I read over and over. Anita is so cool and smart. It also make you think, the sexy bits make the book even more better. LKH paints the best pictures, that you realy see in Anita's head. Read this book and you'll have to read the others, trust me!!

P.S The title is not what you may think it is!!!

Summary: What Mercedes Lackey's Diane Tregarde series is missing.
Review: In high school, I stumbled across Mercedes Lackey. I read everything that she put out that I could get my hands on. My favorite? Children of the Night, one of the Diane Tregarde series. This is everything that book was and more. The darker, more adult side you always wanted her to get to.

This series also gets better as it goes on, as opposed to Lackey's books. You won't be able to put them down.

Read the whole Anita Blake series. Avoid her one shot Nightseer. It's horrible.

Summary: The start of the best horror series you will ever read
Review: This is the first volume in the best horror series you will ever read. Don't be confused by the "Vampire Hunter" title, because this is a world where vampires have legal rights and Anita Blake spends more time raising zombies in her job as an Animator than she does staking out the vamps. In "Guilty Pleasures" Anita is the target of the Master of the City and it seems her best ally is another vamp named Jean-Claude. One thing I like about this book is that it feels like you are already in the middle of an epic story, which is exactly the case. The violence and the horror grow with each book of this series, but you have to begin at the very beginning to enjoy it all.

Summary: Buffy it is not
Review: Possibly hanging off the Buffy the Vampire Slayer market, this is not actually a Buffy rip off. Set in an alternative 'now' where vampires are part of the community, Anita Blake is a tough young vampire hunter and police consultant brought in where crime appears to have a vamp aspect. She is no high kicking Buffy and often ends up battered and hurt. However, she has a determination and drive and things do not always turn out right in the end which means her character is evolving as the story progresses. Having vampires as an accepted part of the community (sort of) and some strong support characters makes for some interesting reading. While this is no great work of art (and does not pretend to be) it is more thoughtful and interesting then a pulp vamp action novel. Certainly worth a look.

Summary: I am The Executioner, and I Don¿t Date Vampires.
Review: I have been a great fan of Laurell Hamilton. I greatly admire her writing ability and imagination. And her daring as well, she is willing to confront unusual sexual issues in a genre where sexuality is more often a matter of hints and gestures. Struck by the intensity of the sexual focus in her recent work I thought it would be entertaining to go back and reread some of Hamilton's earlier books.

"Guilty Pleasures" is the first of the Anita Blake series. What makes the series unique is the strong, tough-minded character of the heroine and narrator. Before "Guilty Pleasures" vampire stories rarely had female leads, let alone one with the hard-nosed style of Anita Blake. She is a professional animator (one who raises the dead) and a licensed vampire killer in an alternate earth where vampires have come out of the closet (coffin?) and are active participants in American life.

Hamilton's vampires are of the Anne Rice genre. They are beautiful, deadly and follow their own code of ethics. Many humans have become enthralled with them, but many are deeply suspicious. To Anita they are monsters who, when they go out of control, must be killed. But U.S. law protects vampires that behave themselves. Even so, when someone starts killing the vampires of St. Louis, authorities make little progress. Angered, two of the strongest vampires in the city, Jean-Claude and Nikolaos, convince Anita to hunt down the killer.

Jean-Claude is one of the modern romantic vampires, easy to look at with fine manners and style. Nikolaos, on the other hand, is a thousand year old sadistic horror in the body of a thirteen year old girl. Her powers are unimaginable and dark hungers hide under her innocent looks. The vampiress takes an immediate dislike to Anita's feisty style and our heroine spends as much time dodging Nikolaos' efforts to injure and enslave her as she does seeking the killer. Jean-Claude comes under attack as well as he tries to help Anita.

Hamilton's way with characters is one of her great strengths. We meet several of Anita's regular companions for the first time. Edward the hyper-violent bounty hunter, and Veronica, a private investigator and friend are outstanding, as are many of the bit players. Her vampires and their human servants are vivid personalities. This gives the novel a realistic feel that comes as a surprise in the vampire genre.

The plot is fast paced, often moving from cliff-hanger to horrific confrontation with all the agility of the ball in a pinball game. There is a steady sexual undercurrent that veers towards sadistic and fetish oriented pleasures. It is a natural outgrowth of the vampire personality and is as chilling as it is erotic. In "Guilty Pleasures" it is an effective plot device that keeps the heat turned up. If you are a vampire story fan you will find Laurell Hamilton's efforts deeply satisfying.

Summary: Guilty Pleasures
Review: I recently heard about L.K. Hamilton and decided to buy the first book in her series. I love Christine Feehan and one of her fans also recommended Ms. Hamilton. I started reading Guilty Pleasures and found it very exciting and fast paced but at the end of the book it was like the feeling you get after you've stood in line for a roller coaster that is supposed to be the best in the world, you get on, go down the first big drop and huge loop and then thats it and you get off thinking well that was o.k. but it could have been much better. I was also very disappointed because the cover states the book is "a heady mix of romance and horror". I am a big romance fan and this book only hinted at romance and most of the time she seemed to want to stay as far away as she could from any romantic developments. I bought this book thinking it would be more satisfying to romance fans and was disappointed but if you like horror and adventure it's a great book and Ms. Hamilton is an excellent writer.

Summary: Freaky, Creepy, Kinky - I Loved It
Review: Laurell K. Hamilton has just introduced me to a world so far out of my usual reading range and I can't believe I enjoyed it. I've just finished reading all nine books in the Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series as follows: Guilty Pleasures, The Laughing Corpse, Circus Of The Damned, The Lunatic Cafe, Bloody Bones, The Killing Dance, Burnt Offerings, Blue Moon and Obsidian Butterfly (and it looks like one or more on the way).

Now how to describe these books-NYPD Blue works with a much more commando type Buffy The Vampire Slayer investigating Freddy Kruger (and every other nightmare) in The Twilight Zone; and everywhere you go are The Chippendale Dancers.

If your not interested yet; add in memorable characters, fly by the seat of your pants action, witty dialogue, mystery and multi-plot storytelling.

Why only four stars-because the gore, the supernatural stuff and sexual content throughout the books are things I don't think will appeal to all readers. At times I was uncomfortable. If your willing to risk it, try it-it was great fun.
