Summary: I loved it!
Review: One day I was searching for a book to read at the library at our home. I came upon the novel Hideaway and decided to give it a try. I started to read it and I couldn't put it down. I was captivated by Koontz's vivid description of the characters and their emotions. He has to have the most developed characters that I have ever stumbled upon. The plot was equally enthralling. It was fascinating how he used the book to dig deep into the very foundation of the human. I recently bought another Dean Koontz book. I plan to read all of his books. He is an exceptionally gifted author. I encourage anyone who reads this review to buy Hideaway and all of the other Dean Koontz novels.

Summary: I guess I'm not a Koontz fan
Review: As I love to read horror, especially the popular authors such as King, Cornwell, Straub, and Mccammon, imagine my surprize to be so disappointed in such a bestselling author! It wasn't a bad story, but I thought his writing style disinteresting. I loved his villian though, so I might read more of his stuff, if it's in the bargain bin.

Summary: Book: Yes, Movie: No
Review: I luckily listen to the book on tape before seeing the dreadful movie. This is a terribly funny book inbetween some really scary moments. The end is a bit much but overall it's delightful. The movie is in no way like the story (Think King's Deloris Claiborne). Enjoyable.

Summary: A Thrilling Masterpiece
Review: This is an amazing book and would highly recomend it to anyone. I read this book in 36 hours because I could not put it down. Koontz is a wonderful writer who grabs you by the throat and dosn't let go. I have read many books by Dean Koontz, Stephen King, and John Saul but this book by far has installed more fear and wonder than anything else. There was a movie made featuring Alicia Silverstone titled Hideaway and am embarrased to have wasted my time on watching the movie when all they did was brutally dismantel the creative genius of Koontz. If you haven't read this book then you must read it, if you have the book then read it again!

Summary: Almost Hits The Target
Review: Koontz is a poor-man's Stephen King, in my opinion. Which is not to slight Koontz in any fashion; indeed, he is an excellent author. But he generally goes with the "happy ending" with his novels, whereas King is a bit more...moody. With that in mind, I became a Koontz fan after reading such wonderful classics of his like "Strangers", "Watchers", and "Lightning". And I expected that same level of excellence with "Hideaway", and I ALMOST had it. The trouble with this novel is more the ending than anything else. Obviously, I won't give it away, but I must confess that it falls short of what I've come to expect from Koontz. This story is one built on love and faith, yet both of those characteristics seem to have vanished in the climax and prologue. Koontz could have used this story as a testament to faith and understanding, yet he goes in an entirely different direction towards the end (which was probably the author's intent), and the usuall Koontz "happy ending" is replaced with something in between the border of bitter and pathetic. I believe that the first 3/4 of this story were excellent, bringing the reader in from the very first pages, and not letting go. But with all novels, only 3/4 of a book makes it only a good book, not an excellent one. Koontz has written several wonderful novels, but I can't conceide that this is one of them.

Summary: Simply Brilliant!
Review: As a addict of mystery and suspense novels, I picked up my first Dean Koontz book not knowing what to expect. Hideaway is nothing short of a masterpiece! I literally could not put this book down. I even took it into the bathroom with me! If this book would be made into a movie, it would surely be a smashing success. If you have never read any of Dean Koontz' work, I highly suggest starting out with this one. It really gets you thinking. I can't wait to start my next one!

Summary: This Novel Would Scare A Convict Straight!
Review: Dean R. Koontz has done it again... He has managed to write such an enticing, twisted tale that no human with a sense of adventure could put down. This novel is definitely one of his best in a long line of novels. Somehow Dean is capable of spinning many incomparable books and then tops it all off with Hideaway. What makes a good book has to do with the kind of book that it is: a horror book most definitely relies more on the setting than other genres, an action story relies on the main character or hero, and a romance story relies on the authors descriptive powers. Dean R. Koontz is a master at all of these. So really this novel, Hideaway, is a little of all worlds. His power to convey the fight scene in the end of the book is one to be admired, and his characterizations of the hero, Hatch Harrison, and the villain, Vassago, captivates the reader. Dean's descriptive powers make the reader feel alive and inside all of the scenes, unlike other novels where the reader struggles just to get the concept of where everyone is. This specific novel has one of the most unique plots I have ever read. When the main character, Hatch Harrison, dies in an ambulance on the way to the hospital, the result of a car crash, he is revived after being clinically dead for an hour and twenty minutes. A product of his after death experience Hatch is capable of seeing what an insane murdered sees. Vassago is a psychotic killer that sacrifices people under a carnival in the name of Lucifer. Vassago is the tragic orphan turned psychotic. Vassago is also capable of seeing what Hatch sees and because of this Vassago sees his next victim, Hatch's own daughter. In the end, Hatch and Vassago meat up in the carnival for the final bout. Good versus evil, Hatch versus Vassago. Dean R. Koontz has a talent that is expressed in all of his books, but his magic is revealed in this outstanding, edge-of -your-seat thriller.

Summary: Typical Koontz excellence
Review: Hideaway, in simple enough terms, is excellent. Koontz simply scared the heck out of me. The one quality that set this novel apart from many of his others is the pure evil of Vassago. He is even more cold-hearted and unpredictable than Vess from Intensity. Koontz also has a tendency to put grand good-vs-evil themes in his book. Sometimes this doesn't always work well with his books, but it is done almost perfectly here. Also, did anyone notice the people put bad reviews down for this novel were too scared to even put a name or e-mail address?
