Rating: Summary: Good Story With Good Illustrations Review: I have enjoyed most of Stephen Kings past books, except for Carrrie, Pet Semetary, and some others. I'm not much of a horror fan, but I still enjoy some Stephen King. This was one of the best. The characters are interesting, especially Marty, who is in a wheelchair. Not many heroes in horror stories are in wheelchairs. He is a brave character, despite his disability. Anyway, the illustrations were great, and the details, like every chapter is a one month, and named after a month, and has a picture with details from the month (For Example, a picture of leaves scattered all over a graveyard in October). Add a great story, more pictures, you have a great story, despite how short it is. The idenity of the werewolf is surprising, though you can figure it out early. But I won't spoil it. I recommend it. One star taken off for shortness. It ended too early.
Rating: Summary: Predictable, but still a good read! Review: I grabbed this book at the library at the library a few days ago and began reading it as soon as I got home. I was able to finish it in one sitting, and enjoyed this book very much. It was very fast-paced and thrilling, but it was quite predictable. The artwork is magnificant, and the set up of the story is interesting, but the story lacks something. It trys to recreate the old-fashioned werewolf stories, but seems a little bit hollow. It is still a great read, but not a five-star book.
Rating: Summary: I'm not impressed. Review: I've read the reviews about this book written by others who use this site and it seems as though I am in the minority. I just received the book today and have finished reading it. I don't even remotely think that it was worth the money I spent on it. The book is 12 chapters long, each chapter labeled with a month of the year. The book is also illustrated. These things are not typical of Mr. King's works and do add something interesting and unusual to the book. However, out of the 128 pages, only 54 of them have story related text. After taking the 75 minutes to finish the book, I was left with a great sense of disappointment. My recurring thought was, "That's it! " The book is a far cry from Mr. King's best work, regardless of its length. If you want to read it, I suggest you borrow it from the library. Do not waste your money.
Rating: Summary: Beautiful Story, A must for King Fans Review: This book is King's most tenderhearted book, The movie version "Silver bullet" is even better. The character of Marty and his Uncle and sister are endearing. Tarker's Mills is a great setting for this werewolf fest. I love the illustrations. I think it would make a great graduation gift.
Rating: Summary: Cycle of The Werewolf Review: Anybody who reads Cycle of the Werewolf will notice something unique. Instead of chapters in the book, there are months. And for every month there is a slaying, until the werewolf is stopped. Stephen King did a nice job of writing this, I heard that Stephen King wrote this book in less than 2 hours! That is unbelievable because i think he did a very nice job of writing this book. This doesn't really resemble a normal King book in my opinion, because the main character is not determined until chapter 7, or July. But the book still has something that everyother king book has, and that is good suspense and very detailed scenes. I think this is what makes his writing so good. I don't really know if you can use this book as a model, but none the less it is still good. Now, I am going to include a quote from where Marty Coslaw encounters the beast on the 4th of July: "It has almost reached him-it's clawed hands, so like-unlike human hands, reaching for his throat-when the boy remembers the packet of firecrackers. Hardly aware he is going to do it, he strikes a match and touches it to the master fuse. The fuse spits a hot line of red sparks that singe the fine hair on the back of his hand, crisping them. The werewolf, momentarily offbalance, draws backwards, uttering a question grunt that, like his hands, is nearly human. Marty throws the packet of firecrackers in it's face." I think this really get's the reader involved in the story. I can't get this book enough praise, but, if you are not into slow moving plots, than I wouldn't suggest this book for you. If you do like slow moving stories, than this is the book for you.
Rating: Summary: Wow! Review: Fast paced and gripping. This is a very unique King book. He just jumps right into the action on this one. I normally don't care for illustrated books (unless they're comic books :), but Bernie Wrightson's work did nothing but improve the effectiveness of this work of art. I liked the way the chapters corresponded to the months of the year (i.e., the werewolf only comes once a month because the moon is only truly full once a month).
Rating: Summary: Quick and action packed! Review: This book is even shorter than it looks, about half of the pages are illustrations. It is a very good story that jumps right into the action and stays there. The book is actually pretty scary and the movie version ("Silver Bullet") is as good as the book. If you think King takes to long to get going, this is the book for you!
Rating: Summary: Hey im looken for this kinda book Review: I'm looken for a sicking werewolf book. One thats about a werewolf & he or she has to go around and turn others into werewolfs & is being hunted by a wereewolf killer or something can you recement something.
Rating: Summary: A quick, sharp read from the master Review: I'd read this book when it was first released, but I decided to make a return trip; I liked it more the 2nd time around! King, along with famed illustrator Berni Wrightson, weaves a tight, tense year-long narrarative of a small Maine town dealing with a monthly visitor. The chapters are short and to the point; King doesn't waste a single word. Wrightson, for his part, brings some of the key scenes to life very vividly. (Who wouldn't LOVE to own one of these paintings?)The book itself is a BEAUTIFUL package; the paintings are wonderfully reproduced. It won't take long to read, but you'll find yourself making a return trip to Tarker Mills before long. It's just that good.... and just TRY to forget the painting of the Werewolf on top of the Semi.....I dare you!
Rating: Summary: King And Wrightson Are Magnificent Together! Review: Although this is not a full length novel by Stephen King, it's a great one! The way the chapters are laid out really help establish a concept of time passage. It helps put everything in better sequence, and forms a sort of "count down" to the end climax. Bernie Wrightson's illustrations are killer! I've been a fan of his work for quite a while now, simply because his paintings are realistic to the point where it seems as though his monsters and ghouls will jump out of the page and attack you! And his work in this book are no exception! I urge all King fans and fans of horror novels to pick this one up. It may be a quick read, but it's a good one, and well worth the time!
