Rating: Summary: The Immortal Pharoh Review: Set in the 1920's, In London and Egypt, Anne Rice's novel The Mummy is about an archeologist who digs up an immortal mummy. The main character, Ramses the Great, is unintentionally resurrected by Egyptologist Lawrence Stratford, there were multiple inscriptions on the entrance of the tomb that stated, "Robbers of the dead look away from this tomb lest you wake it's occupant who's wrath cannot be contained. Ramses the Damned is my name. The description leads you to believe that Rammses is a monster. And after Lawrence mysteriously dies in Ramses tomb rumors ran rampant that there is a curse. And now the mummy of Ramses the Great is bound for Lawrence's house in London. In London Ramses proves he is not a monster, and more of a curious child. He saves Julie Stratford, Lawrence's daughter, when Henry, Lawrence's nephew tries to poison Julie. Now an ancient immortal king is loose on the streets. I personally liked this book; Anne Rice's writing is beautiful. This is an advanced book, which I recommend for only fairly advanced readers.
Rating: Summary: Action Adventure at its greatest Review: Mummies awaking,a pretty girl we have all seen a movie or read a book with a plot that is almost identical. What is different is Anne Rice's very unique perspective;she puts a very special touch on a very played out subject. The story begins in Egypt in the 1920's with an archeologist named Lawrence Stratford and his assistant Samir. While on a dig in the barren hills south of Cario they come across a great tomb and written upon it in three different languages dating thousands of years apart is "Robbers of the dead, look away from this tomb les you wake it's occupents whose wrath cannot be contained, Ramses the damned is my name!" A little bit of foreshadowing don't you think? It turns out Ramses took an immortality elixir and is now destined for a museum in London. Ramses still exhibits human natures and qualities and even falls in love with Lawrence's daughter Julie. Even though Ramses is enjoying his time in London there are two things bothering him. First he must avenge Lawrenece's death. But Ramses also feels he must say his final goodbye to Egypt before Julie and he can run off together. But will Egypt bring a horrible end for Ramses and Julies Love? Read the book and find out. This book is great if you're sick of the avaerage mummy story. We highly recomened this book.
Rating: Summary: The Mummy or Ramses the Damned Review: I found this book to be highly entertaining! One of Anne Rice's best! I wish that she would write a sequel to it! It left me hanging...and wanting to find out what happens to Ramses!
Rating: Summary: Anne Rice at her best! Review: The Mummy is one of Rice's greatest novels. Romance, horror and suspense are all woven together to create a truly fascinating read. Being an Anne Rice fan and an Egyptology buff I was thrilled to find this book. One of my top ten favorite books of all time!!
Rating: Summary: super Review: this is a book you have to read.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Read Review: I like Anne Rices other reads, they just seem to be a little slow I find her describing everything from the color of the dress the character is wearing to the size of her shoes. That is just too much for me in The mummy the characters are well developed, smart and most importantly like real people. They have faults and by the end of the book you find yourself caring about them for a first time Anne Rice reader I would recommend this too start with.
Rating: Summary: The Mummy Review: I have sat many an evening pouring over Anne Rice books and have never had a dull moment. This book, however, is one of my all time favorites. The charactors were a work of art. From the smells of the embalming rooms to the blue of Rameses eyes... I felt as if I were there myself. The Witches of Mayfair, Lasher..Taltos, Pandoro, all are marvelous. But being a true Eqyptian Mummy fan from Karloff until the Brandon Frasier version, this is the best by far.
Rating: Summary: One of the best Anne Rice novels.... Review: I have to admit, this novel sat on my bookshelf for about three years before I actually read it. I received it as a gift when I was about 18 and I was hesitant to read it due to the fact that I consider the vampire chronicles the only Anne Rice works worth reading. However, I picked it up one day out of boredom and to my surprise I finished it the same day. I was completely caught up in this erotic, exciting and emotional story. This was the first book in a while that I actually passed on to some friends. If you like Anne Rice's vampire chronicles, I highly recommend this book. I too hope that she someday writes a sequel to this story...I need to know wht becomes of Cleopatra and the rest of the characters!
Rating: Summary: Not Bad Review: I rather enjoyed this book. Firstly because it is about Egypt. I also found the idea of a 'serum for death' rather intriguing. It also didn't hurt that Ramses was a hunk. Cleopatra, even though she was evil, was a rather interesting character as well - unfortunately the English girl was a saccharine little bore and I was mystified as to what Ramses the Babe saw in her. The book was enjoyable though with an interesting storyline.
Rating: Summary: One of my favorite Anne Rice books Review: First, let me say that I absolutely love the Vampire Chronicles, although Interview with a Vampire is still my favorite. I didn't like the Mayfair witches that much, but I never read Taltos and am curious about Merrick. That said, I was leary of a non-vampire Anne Rice novel. Despite my doubts, I loved this book. I have always found Egyptian history fascinating and enjoyed having this book with me on a long plane trip. The only bad side is that when I reached the end of the book, I wanted more. Hopefully, Anne Rice will someday write a sequel to this book so that we can find out more about what happens with Ramses, Cleopatra, Julie Stratford, etc.
