Rating: Summary: Good as a stand alone, but a sequel it was not Review: It's ashame that we must judge this book off the premise of it's predecessor. Silence of the Lambs was outstanding - and so was this one up to a point. That is always the problem with a sequel. It must live up to what it followed. Hannibal was a good read and wonderful book in of itself, as Mr HARRIS is more than capable of rendering to us. However, I was very disappointed by STARLING's character. She started out so strong in this, even more so by comparison over Silence of the Lambs. I was able to see how she evolved and matured. This caused me to not only be shocked by the ending, but also very disappointed. Furthermore, I found the end a bit unbelieveable.
Rating: Summary: Very Disappointed by Hannibal Review: I have been a faithful reader of Mr. Harris until now, I will no longer assume he will write at a level of quality, as he has in the past.
Rating: Summary: Keeps you on the edge of your toes! Review: An excellent sequel to Silence of the Lambs. It continues from where Silence leaves off. I loved the was Harris has dug deeper into the psychy of both Clare and Hannibal. I couldn't put the book down and was at the edge of seat waiting for the finale! I recommended it to a friend who loves psychological thrillers and he loved the book also!
Rating: Summary: Gripping,Grusome,Surprising,Superb! Review: This long awaited sequel did not erase the image of Anthony Hopkins as the supergenius, phychologist, cannibalistic serial killer. The suductive madness of this charcter is unforgetable.I was gripped, frustrated, and ultimately surprised by the events following the silence......of the lambs. The book had one more effect on me, one that distubs me a little... It left me hungry.....
Rating: Summary: I love a good read that you can't put down--and this fit. Review: As a lover of these gory dramas, I couldn't wait to get my hands of Hannibal. Once I started, I couldn't put it down. I look for a total suspension of reality in my world (I'm retired with an unrelenting heart problem.) and for one brief moment I believed. Bring on more, Mr.Harris.
Rating: Summary: Spellbinding and fantastic, a truly enjoyable read! Review: I cannot comprehend all the negative, put-down reviews I've read of this book. It shines and scintillates like the finest jewel! The suspense never falters and Thomas Harris has brought off a true piece de resistance. From the opening bloody and mismanaged shootout to the final chapter (and what a finale!) I was glued to my seat and the pages. I sat up till 3 am to finish this, and I don't often do that anymore. I prefer to davour good books and discover the gems slowly. But I defy any TRUE lover of suspense and/or horror to put this down before it's finished. I'm not going to give away any mopre of the plot/storyline - most of it's been blown by the other reviewers anyway - buy it yourself and enjoy. Definitely excellent - I'd give it 6 stars out of 5 if the system would let me.HOWEVER - I do have one beef with Mr Harris, though; where's the FIRST Hannibal Lecter book - the one where Will Graham catches him because of the "whimsey" with the wound man killing/execution? I want to read it. I'm waiting, Mr Harris.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: Terrible ending. Although I enjoyed Krendler's ultimate fate, Lecter and Starling's ending was unbelievable and a total disappointment. Starling would never! Also, throughout the book, I thought Harris showed too much of Dr. Lecter's human weakness (childhood trauma, etc.) --taking away from Hannibal the Cannibal's creepy mystique.
Rating: Summary: A fun follow up with a thought-provoking ending Review: After having read the previous reviews, I was surprised by how much people either loved or hated this book. For me "fun" sums it right up. I loved The Silence of the Lambs and this was a well-thought, sometimes disgusting, enjoyable time. Give it a break, and don't expect the best writing ever, it is Hannibal Lector for crying out loud! And what an ending! That was worth it for me and I've been thinking about it since I put it down. I even re-read it to make sure I got it right. Did she really do that? Then it seems believable and disgustingly enough, exactly what this reader wanted.
Rating: Summary: powerful, wonderful, perfect! What a movie it will make. Review: Harris a genius, gutsy, bonechilling, gutwrenching writer...if you only read one book this year, read this, you won't be sorry. Loved the ending, never would have guessed the writer would do it. What nerve, what wonderment of mind, what a reward for followers of Clarice and Hannibal. Speaking of which, where is the sequal to Hannibal? Had to read and stop, read and stop, did not want the story to end. Harris, we salute you!
Rating: Summary: Impressive in revealing the human evil Review: I read the Dutch translation and I was very impressed and at the same time terrified by having two apparant contrary concepts: horror and respect so closely related. Good and bad can be seperated and judged very easily if they don't occur at the same time. In this book that border isn't that clear at all. That border meanders and makes the book extremely interesting, because my own reality is being questioned. I love it.
