Summary: ACK!
Review: This book started out so great and then copped out. I thought the disintegration of Starling was so disappointing. She is one of the few strong female characters in fiction and she was defeated. I felt like I was reading a script. Obviously this was written so that it could be made into yet another movie. It was predictable and boring. It was difficult to make myself finish. It had such potential in the first half, that I got through it in hopes that the ending would be pleasing. No such luck. I will read the others over again.

Summary: What a let- down, Don't bother with this one.
Review: I found this book totally confusing. I kept reading on, waiting for the good parts that never came. The whole section in Italy was hard to follow. I can see why Jodie Foster would want no part of this. The ending made no sense at all. It has none of the suspense the first book had. I just thought this book was horrible. I was mad I wasted my time reading it.

Summary: Grotesque to the point of silliness
Review: Harris tells a great story, but all the way through I could feel him rubbing his chin and musing, "What other grotesque absurdity can I put in to turn my readers' stomaches without turning my readers off." He neither turned my stomach (though he came close) nor turned me off (though he turned me off of the only sympathetic character in the book) though he gravely disappointed me.

My recommendation is to see Manhunter, read Red Dragon, then read Silence of the Lambs but don't bother with the movie. Forget about Hannibal the book and the character. Let him vanish into the third world, never to be heard of again, as he did at the end of Silence.... You'll be much happier.

Summary: Brings a whole new meaning to "getting a little head".
Review: Readers put away your pre-conceived notions on what you want the book to be, and come along for a fantastic ride! In my opinion, Harris has opened up whole new horizons for the further adventures of this dynamic duo. And a "Danse of The Macabre", I'm sure it would be, not since the exploits of the doomed couple in "Natural Born Killers", has there been a team that could wreck havoc with society as a whole. Let Harris conduct this dark ride with Clarise and Lecter, enjoy the ride the story for what it is, entertainment. You have plucked down your hard earned bucks for the book (or picked it up at the library or perhaps borrowed it from a friend) never the less, you know your tastes. So just follow the weaving of a good wordsmith, the story Harris is sharing is only surpassed by the real stories in your local newspapers. I would like to read the rough draft of this tale, how many recipes were ruined before Lecter got it right? It is difficult to comprehend how Clarise is won over by the crafty Lecter, but that is what makes the story so compelling, just when you know where it is going, you get a little dip that ends up in a "loop de doo" and all you can do is hang on and go for it. This is the first time I've attempted to review a book, so I am reluctant to give away any of the plot or gore, so before you utter "hogwash", remember "Hannibal" is just a character in a story but, don't try any of the escapes of the good Doctor in the privacy of your own home, after all he is a professional. I personally can't wait for "Son of Hannibal", to see how the kid would be prepared...broiled, braised, or just broken.

Summary: WHAT WAS HARRIS THINKING?
Review: After reading Silence Of The Lambs, I bought this book. I read, didn't understanding one word of it. Than, I got "curious". I turned to the back of the book and read the final chapter. Than I thought: What the hell is this? I immediatley stopped reading the book. Those of u who enjoyed Red Dragon and Silence are in for a very dissappointing novel. I won't mention the ending to those of u who are willing to read the book and get VERY dissappointed. This book is nothing but a big piece of trash.

Summary: not what you'd ever expect. Singular!
Review: Harris demonstrated a completely unique take on the "serial killer" genre, with his totally astonishing ending..

Many readers and viewers of the film "Silence of the Lambs" expect the typical tale whereby the old fomulaic plot concludes with either the villian getting eradicated or at least, the hero or heroine obtaining justice.

In this episode of Hannibal's story, we learn much about both his and Clarise's psyches.. There are very embedded reasons for their behaviors and compulsions and upon examination and atypical therapies, they are both liberated, though not in a way that is ordinarilly endorsed. A culmination of good/evil and perfect/horrible result in a tenable meeting of the minds. I would bet Hannibal never kills again.

I rated the book highly due to its imagination and genuis of story == rather than being another tired variation on the old, hackneyed, predictable horror story. Harris's work here, does, however, rival Poe in its intricacy. And actually, in its bizarre way, the book leaves the reader with a sense of hope.

Remember, after all is said and done, the story features other villians who rival Hannibal in their egregious acts or intentions; and they have absolutely no brilliance, fondness of others, "taste" (as Clarise calls Hannibal's proclivities) or any of the moral, in spite of himself, qualities that Lechter possesses.

Summary: Fantastic Follow-up to Silence of The Lambs!
Review: I found this book to be fast paced yet not only enlightening but historical as well. Thomas Harris takes readers on a very bumpy ride in Hannibal. It not only makes you wonder if Dr. Lecter isn't just out to protect himself and those that he loves/cares about but that his genious is just uncontrollable. I found Clarice Starling to be strong, motivated and yet vulnerable. It brings to light many of the policital problems that effect governments of today, the one-up-manship. I found Hannibal had a very twisted ending that not only shocked but made you think, really think! Overall, I found the book fascinating and would/have recommended it to friend, fellow co-workers and even my boss! Excellent!

Summary: Definitely not for everyone
Review: Readers expecting another man-hunt/mystery are in for a disappointment with this third Hannibal Lecter installment. However, I was pleasantly surprised that Harris ended the saga the way he did.

Though _Hannibal_ has been greatly criticized for the characterization of Starling, I never found myself doubting the veracity of her character. Several of the last moments bordered on the surreal, but I was completely satisfied with the conclusion Harris chose. While some readers might see it as a slap-dash ending, I see it as a slap in the face of every person who pushed him to finish this book before he was ready. Hannibal, Clarice, and Thomas Harris all have the last laugh, and I loved every minute.

Summary: Starling trades in gun for breast feeding job
Review: The book is just plain bad. There is none of the behavioral science mystery solving we loved in Silence. Our strong Heroine is suduced by Lecter with drugs and volunteers to spend the rest of her days being his Freudian pacifier, literally. She is like the anti-Clarice and it insults young poor women who work hard. The office politcs is stolen from the X-files and Krendler might as well be the cigrette smoking man. Harris must have needed money.
