Summary: Meanwhile, from the outside....
Review: First I suppose, this is a review...So, it is a book. (important plot theme here..) Whatever Harris was thinking of when he wrote this, it was apparently not to please those who thought it should go the way of SoTL. Rather curious about the reactions to "poor" Starling..Am I the only one who noticed the abrupt kiss-off Harris did to the most interesting of his characters..Will Graham? Harris finds law enforcement types very disposable..and uses them as he sees fit. And, this being a book about a "super" villian..so charming, so well bred.."Quite sorry about this little habit I have of killing folks...Why I am actually quite the well bred Southern Gentleman"

Hello? He's a KILLER...period. Anyone who sypathizes with someone as loathsome a creature, obviously in control of his faculties, yet still MURDERS people..whomever crosses his rather large bad side..We should empathize with this creature? I shouldn't be amazed really, as a Law enforcement officer for 22 years, who has actually sat across from a few serial killers.. They all..for the most part have a story to tell, and can act quite normal, yes even "charming" Check Ann Rule and her first impressions of Ted Bundy..They don't ALL have dogs telling them what to do. And hey..every body with a horrid childhood doesn't kill and eat people either (big surprise) It is to Harris's credit that he can evoke such emotions..yet since we read fiction to escape, why, we are ready to embrace whatever concept that is presented..at least by nature.

The book was interesting at times, Harris has a way with his word craft, much like Stephen King,Yet I find it appalling how many readers wanted "hannible" to act and speak like the actor..Anthony Hopkins. Why any one who is knighted, well even if he is a serial killer..can't be all bad, as long as we are on his Christmas List. Same for Foster/Starling. Poor Jody..ooops Starling, to have went nuts and discovered her sexual and cannibal hunger at the same times. (I imagined that annoying accent myself through this book, try though I did to ignore it)

No doubt about it, a movie does place those characters in our minds..good in the case of William Peterson/Will Graham (excellent movie for most part, just my opinion) SoTL..well big names do detract from the story..and they apparently did very well at that here.

The ending of this book..yes, it was terrible. But it kept in line with the love story and redemption of "Sir Hannible" And let me tell you..Did some of you ever buy it...Oh brother, yes fiction, yes escapism..but when you began to "root" for such a human monster..as portrayed in Harris's books...I have to wonder. He is a Killer..(remember?) of women..police officers (not a big sympathy issue there) ambulance drivers..disfgures nurses..all care givers, in the old Doctors way..Your sympathy gives me nightmares..

It's a book, it had it's moments..but please... I didn't go into a depression after Aliens #3, also a crummy sequel..

Red Dragon was a good read..as was SoTL..Both had boring parts, and you should have been ready for the "sad story, it's not my fault ..like me?" if you read, and I mean really read both. Those along with the toss off of the "heros" are pretty much Harris form.

Try Michael Slade's Headhunter..actually the series is pretty good, along with anything featuring John Becker by David Wiltshe or John Sandford.

The Eagles sang it best.."Get over it"

Summary: What a disturbing and sensual ride...
Review: Most everyone who liked this book summed up my feelings, except for the ending. I loved the ending and don't want to see anyone BUT Hopkins and Foster reprise their rolls. Hopkins is the PERFECT Hannibal Lecter...his blending of grace and madness...just perfect!! And Foster's Starling would be interesting to see...the strong but fragile woman turning to this "monster" for companionship! I just love it! But alas, I don't think the movie-going public is ready to actually "see" this ending. We're too immature to appreciate it's beauty. But I can dream....

Summary: Good, Except for the Ending
Review: I enjoyed Hannibal, until the ending, which I found preposterous. The ending is nonsense, and ruined a great book. I described to a friend, who found it so ludicrous he immediately accused me of making it up. If you're a Hannibal Lecter completist, wait for the paperback, so you'll spend less money to be disappointed.

Summary: An intersting read, but...
Review: I found "Hannibal" a bit of a disappointment. While it kept my attention, I found it lacked in something. "Silence of the Lambs" was rivotting, while this book grabs you from a more morbid perspective. I really found myself not liking anyone in this book, even Clarice. The ending, which I will not give away, was disturbing. I found myself angry at it and at the direction Thomas Hariis chose to take the characters. On the whole, I'm almost sorry I read it. But not quite. Like I said, it did appeal to hte morbid imagination.

Summary: The long wait resulted in a slap in the face.
Review: This is one of the most disappointing books that I have ever read. Hannibal Lecter is merely a shell of his former self and Clarice Starling is a lame pawn in the goings on of men. I will give Harris credit for Mason Verger. Verger was brilliantly disgusting! On the whole though, the story was quite lame as far as thrillers go. After years of waiting for the next Harris book I felt extremely flat at the end. The ending was absolutely absurd. Hopefully we've seen the last of Hannibal and Clarice.

Summary: Very easy to put down and forget
Review: Dull characters, obscenely unreal plot line, and, dare I say?, BORING. A huge dissapointment. Throwing in a few obscure literary and culinary references does not make for an intelligent book, when the characters are one-dimensional and the writing is stilted and dry. Do yourself a favor and stay far away from this over-hyped drivel.

Summary: Movie script makes OK book.
Review: I couldn't get over the feeling that I wasn't reading a book but reading a shooting script for a movie. Granted it wasn't laid out for a dialog reading but all the short scenes, graphic layout...it just felt wrong. I liked the book overall but just wish it was more of a novel.

Summary: Where's The Excitement?
Review: What a disappointment. It was difficult to read the book because of its boring, non-substantive plot. The characters never developed nor did any level of excitement. Too much time is spent on non-important events and the build up to the plot seems as though it takes an eternity.

Technical textbooks are an easier read than this lemon.

Summary: Hannibal is too mellow for a serial killer
Review: I was truly diappointed by Hannibal. It starts out wonderfully, with Clarice Starling right in the middle of more FBI action. Butthen, Harris takes the story to Florence. It loses steam from there and the end is completely unbelievable.

Summary: Hannibal Lector becomes more palatable as he goes cerebral?
Review: While "Hannibal" details some very violent acts, I do not think this offers the same sort of punch as "The Red Dragon" or "Silence of the Lambs". There is a hunt and he is the prey, but you feel Dr. Lector can handle it. However, there was a different kind of punch---my own reaction to the final outcome surprised me. Maybe that was the point, to seduce the reader into a more palatable view of Hannibal Lector and then have to consider why that happened.

It has been awhile since I read "Silence of the Lambs", but I remember I felt tense and anxious reading the book. Even though there were qualities I liked in Dr. Lector, he really bothered me. He was evil. This time I liked him and he limited himself to only a few tastes of the "free-range rude." Of course, there are the parallel threads of Clarice and the hunter of Dr. Lector. Clarice has had some tough times since her last interaction with Dr. Lector, and Dr. Lector's hunter supplies most of the violent, dismal acts in the name of revenge. Eventually, these threads come together.

I have to admit I enjoyed the demise of Clarice's jerky antagonist, but I am not sure about her new journey. Just when you thought it was safe, Dr. Lector goes to work on her psyche. To me this should be more insidious than his dining habits, but I did not feel that way. Somehow it seemed to be ok and I floated along with the plot.

Where will she go from here? I guess I will have to wait and see, for it cannot end like this. I believe Clarice deserves a better outcome, and I don't want to like Dr. Lector.
