Review: I'm only 15. When Silence of the Lambs came out i was only 2. So, as you can appreciate, i have not had to wait as long as some of you waited for this novel. In fact, i read it only about 2 weeks after i read SoTL. SO, my expectations had not been heightened by the passage of time.

Nonetheless, this book is a masterpiece. There is no other word to describe it.

Harris is a master. This is a wonderful gesture from Harris, giving the finger to all who fans who expected something rather like a carbon copy of SoTL, or even something vaguely similar. Harris here tells us that his novels will be dictated by what he wants to write, not what the public wants him to write.

Harris comes up with a wonderfully gothic plot, and the way he writes is beautiful. The prose sings with intelligence and poetical value.

Harris has created some great characters here. He builds on Barney, who we met in the last book, he delves deeper into Clarice's psyche, and explores Hannibal in a way that is vivid and realistic. Not to mention Mason Verger, who does superly as the disfigured and vengeful villain. And beside him you have Margot Verger, who is the best subsidiary character Harris has ever created. At first she is meek, then strong, and at the end finally comes into her gruesome own. Then we have Rinaldo Pazzi, another great character, out to trap Hannibal, but ultimate, inevitably, falls victim to him in a particularly horrible way. Wonnderfully done.

Another stunning piece of villainly is Paul Krendler, who we just cheer at when meets his fate.

Hannibal Lecter is back, and he is bigger and better than ever.

The ending to this book is possibly the best to any fictional piece of writing i have ever come across. The last pages shimmer with brilliance and nostalgia. The last chapter is great, the last paragraphs inspirational, the last line, simply stunning. A great, great ending.

Trumps expectations.

Review: This is one of the best books in publication. Harris keeps you flipping pages in utter suspence. I could not put it down. It is a very nice compliment to Silence of the Lambs. If you have not seen the movie, please read this book. You will not be displeased.

Review: This book was truly written in a gorgeous and poetic way, just as Lecter himself would have written it. Harris is truly a mastermind. The movie, for those of you who have seen it, cannot compare to this incredible novel. The book delves into the sadistic and maniacal character of Mason Verger, it also speaks of the strong and beautiful F.B.I. agent Clarice Starling. Most importantly, the book delves into the past, thoughts and feelings of Hannibal Lecter. The reader finds out exactly what the term "free range rude" truly means. For those of you who are true Lecter fans, this book is a terrific read, and for those of you who are trying to understand exactly why and who Hannibal Lecter is, read this book. It is a masterpiece.

Review: After reading most of the reviews on this page, it seemed to me that a lot of the anger felt towards this book was based upon the previous success the series has earned itself. But let's forget Red Dragon and The Silence of the Lambs. You must judge books individually, and only then will they deserve their rightfully earned praise.

In the 3rd chapter of the trilogy, Dr. Hannibal Lector has reached out and contacted Agent Clarice Starling, which starts an uproar in the FBI. His case is reopened, and agents worldwide are searching for the madman again. Meanwhile, Starling¡¦s career is ruined because of a shootout that turned into a bloodbath. While she is struggling to get back on top, lurking beneath shadows is Mason Verger. He is Dr. Lector¡¦s 6th victim, and is dying for revenge. He has the entire underground world working for him. Over in Italy, Pazzi is a burned out cop who desperately needs to regain his reputation. He begins to track down Il Monstro, a killing machine and eventually connects him to Dr. Lector. These are all very different people, yet they share one common thought. Where is Dr. Hannibal Lector, and how are they going to capture him?

The key to a good book lies deep in the depth of the characters. In Hannibal, Thomas Harris has carefully sculptured each character to fit into the mysterious world of Hannibal. Each character is described to the core, and as you read, you actually begin to think like them. The more you understand about the characters, the more you begin to understand their actions and the way they feel. Emotionally, you become attracted to them. Well done, Harris.

Good writers often do heaps of research before actually writing their piece of work. The knowledge and information gathered by Thomas Harris clearly shows in the text. Beautifully described art works, delicious meals, and ancient historical events are mentioned all throughout the book. From the elegant Givenchy, to the rusty old Mustang, Harris obviously did his load of research.

Although one may argue that the ending is quite a shock, I believe Harris made it that way for a specific reason. Maybe the monster that has been roaming through the series isn't really a monster after all. Maybe it shows that when you're educated to the brink, you¡¥re mind becomes different than others. Maybe he wanted us to believe that even monsters can be tamed. Whatever Harris intended, we may never know. But what we do know, is that he has once again written a masterpiece that will stay in our minds for quite some time. This is defiantly worth buying, so elude yourself into the world of Hannibal.

Summary: macbre and disturbingly original.
Review: Hannibal is my favourite book. It's prose is razor sharp and yet still manages to flow like the silkiest of fine wines. Thomas Harris has served up an entirely pretentious and self- indulgent work of fiction; and for this I can only applaud. Harris is not writing for film, for the world of Literature, nor his millions of fans... This is Harris for Harris and it is this method that makes Hannibal more than just a masterpiece, but a standout in the modern world of horror. I personally feel the ending is the best I've ever read- with the final one hundred pages utterlly spellbinding. However, the majesty of this work cannot be fully appreciated with anything less that two reads. In many ways it reminded my of Hitchcocks "Vertigo": it demands to be revisited more than once- and only then will you fall into Hannibals dark, obtuse and morbid world. The characters are utterly real and fully justified: Clarice Starling is a fantastic mascot for Literatic femininity and Hannibal Lecter becomes much more than a cannibal. He becomes human- one of us. This is a book about obsession, religion, domination, exploitation, failure and fine foods. I have read "Hannibal" five times and will undeniably revisit it again. It begins and ends with the most perfectly chilling sentences to be seen since the words of Edgar Allan Poe.
Utterly compelling and totally non-franchise.

Review: As well as being one of the most gripping thrillers I have ever read, a real page-turner even at 500-plus pages, it is a facinating study of a genius turned killer. The range of subjects touched upon -- Renaissance literature and history, art, baroque music, physics and mathematics, medicine -- is refreshing. Unlike most authors, Harris treats his readers as intelligent, well-read adults. As a study in a world devoid of moral absolutes and filled with atrocities and the response of a brilliant, sensitive mind exposed at a tender age to its horrors it is extraordinary.

Review: While this book moved a little slower than Silence of The Lambs I felt it was an excellent follow up.These characters are intriguing, I can't take in enough info about them.It had a twist that was certainly unexpected at the end. I hope to see even one more book to follow this one. I will say that I was disappointed in the movie, especially the ending!!

Review: Being a huge Thomas Harris fan, I greatly anticipated the release of "Hannibal". I bought it on it's release date, read about a third of it the first day, hoping it would get better. I was mistaken. Being the high-grossing movie it was turned into, I'm sure you know what it's about. The writing style is exceptionally well, yet the story lacked a major plot. "Hannibal" was OK, but should have been edited. If you're still interested in reading this, make sure you read the Hannibal Lecter trilogy in this order:
1. Red Dragon
2.Silence of the Lambs
3.Hannibal
