Summary: Forget this sequelnonsense and reckognize this book's theme
Review: This book is called "Hannibal". Surely everybody expected the book to be an insight into the realm of Dr. Lecter. And isnt that exactly what we got? A vivid look into his mind, and an understanding of his dimensions, and explanation to what he seeks. A truly terrifying and absolutly fascinating invitation in to the imagination of a monster. This memorypalace is a place where innovation, beauty, nightmares and absolute terror goes hand in hand. Its roofs harbours more than just good and evil. It is frightening and wonderfull at the same time. It is the single most incredible description of a genious mind that i have ever read. Who cares about the rest?

Summary: Lack luster continuation of Hannibal Lecteer
Review: The story was chopped into painfull small chapters averaging less than 7 pages that wander.

Summary: Very disappointing!
Review: Having read Black Sunday, Red Dragon, and Silence of the Lambs, I was very psyched to read this novel. Unfortunately, the feeling soon passed as I got further into the novel. Weak character development and a meandering plot transformed this into a novel that is revolting rather than terrifying. The ending is the worst of all. Unbelievable and saddening at the same time. Ugh, I don't believe I've been as disappointed in a novel in a very long time.

Summary: I was stunned by the ending.
Review: The book started out well and then slowed to the point where I just took an afternoon to just sit and finish the book to get it over with. It dragged for a while. I agree that alot of the gore was gratuitous; very unneccesary. Some of the chracter plots were strange (ie. Margot/Judy, what was that??) I did like how Hannibal wasn't the only bad guy (this book was full of monsters!)and I also liked reading about Hannibal's background. That was interesting. The climax was pretty good, but it was the last chapter that left my jaw hanging. I don't know how I feel about that ending. It definitely caught me off guard.

Summary: Dissapointing
Review: I love Thomas Harris's series. I also loved this book, until the end. I felt the book was too gory, even more so than his other books. Don't get me wrong, I love a certain element of gore but this was ridiculous and wasn't warrented. I was extremly dissapointed with the ending and felt that Harris had ruined terrific characters. Read it for what it is, a sequel to Silence. The first one is always the best.

Summary: not worth listening to
Review: Frankly I found the audio cassette version fairly impossible to listen to and stopped. One's time could be definitely better spent.

Summary: I understand why so many people does not like this book...
Review: ...but I can't agree with them. If you are looking for simple, single-level reading, Hannibal is not for you. But if you are looking for really good writing (yeah, you will get gore too for your money ;) this book is the best thing I have read in years, and I am "an omnivorous reader". Harris describes his characters without judging them. They are monsters, or they are angels. Or both. Harris seems to think he is not to judge them. And that makes the book so good. I wish my English were better you I could truly say how much I loved Hannibal. I am Spanish, sorry. But I can tell you, the book will get top marks when I write my piece about mistery books this month.

Summary: Ghastly, bloodthirsty, engrossing
Review: This isn't really a sequal to Silence of the Lambs, except that it has some of the same characters (besides Hannibal and Starling), it's a stand-alone book. We get some insight into how Hannibal got that way, and are introduced to a character who's even worse than Hannibal. It's a page turner that invites you to imagine the worst possible things happening to the worst possible people. Then it exceeds your imaginings. I don't know whether this is a good book. I do know that it's hard to put down. If authors do indeed write what they know, then Mr. Harris is one odd man!

Summary: Annoying Waste of Effort!
Review: I feel extreme angst that Mr. Harris would waste this much of my time anticipating that this farce would become redeemable at story's end. What surprises me even more that readers seem to be polarized in their opinions of this book. Must be like buttermilk - you either love it or hate it!!

Summary: Quit before the end would have been my advise to Harris
Review: A disjointed and poorly flowing work by Thomas Harris could have been saved by a decent ending and used as a setup for the next novel. Instead Harris chooses to show his contempt for fans and characters alike by contriving an ending so unsatisfactory and unlikely that it tarnishes the works that came before. If not skipped entirely this book is best returned to the library before reading the ending. Any ending a reader can make up will be better than the one read.
