Summary: Totally Disappointing Koontz
Review: Did any one else notice, that with a few changes, this book could have been "Strangers"? The plot is hackneyed and hacked together. Always have been a strong fan of Koontz, I have almost everything he has written under all of his names. What has happened to his books lately? Story line, from the first chapter, was predictable, and aggravatingly wordy. Have not finished, but can not put it down, in the same way you worry at a sore tooth. All in all, I am just plain disappointed.

Summary: Best book ever!
Review: This is the best Koontz book i ever read. Its about a man named Dr. Mark Ahriman. Susan Jagger, Martie Rhodes,Dustin Rhodes, and Holden "Skeet" Caulfield r some of his patients. Ahriman controls their minds thorough brainwashing, but they figure out what is going on. U can't put the book down! It may be long but its great! Best Koontz book ever. Read it.

Summary: Dean's Back!
Review: While I didn't enjoy Koontz's last two books and his new book is not as good as Watchers, Dark Rivers Of The Heart and Intensity, he definitely has a big hit with False Memory. It's filled with very interesting characters and the compelling plot holds your interest right from the beginning. But beyond these vital elements, Koontz's main strength in my opinion in False Memory is his ability to tap into the dark side of society and to demonstate how his main characters prevail. Make sure that when you start this book you've cleared your calendar of all things to do because you won't want to put False Memory down.

Summary: Not the best, not the worst...
Review: "False Memory" was a huge source of excitement when I first bought it. I liked the book, I really anjoyed it. But I feel deep in my chest that I miss the old Koontz as in Watchers, Twilight Eyes, Phantoms or Strangers...

False Memory is sort of a must to read for Koontz fans, with his new style as in Christopher Snow books. This one is somewhat original and makes more sense. However, the story could be shorter, and also the characters are typical Koontz as someone mentioned. You'll find the usual setting in locations, people, lifestyles and relationships. It's comfortable, not exciting though...

It seems the book starts easier and cool, but finishes in a hurry. Strange. Maybe he needs to write more freely, without any obligations to book companies. Anyway, he's still a favorite, right?

Summary: False Memory is True to Form
Review: With an interesting juxtaposition of the "good v. evil" characters, our twenty-something protagonists go through the formulaic Koontz drill. Never any doubt that this "thriller" was simply a story, a stretch of the author's imagination, a soapbox to issue social commentary. The clever pet doesn't quite save the day, but does deposit a special bit of humanity. Dialogue is fraught with cliches, repartee is just a bit too cute. Missing the magic (and cold chills) of Intensity. An okay read. Mamalinda would love to see Koontz' characters grow up just a little.

Summary: False Memory is SPECTACULAR!
Review: False Memory is a wonderful trip through the lives of ordinary people being manipulated by an unusual, if not disturbed, doctor. Koontz delivers thrill after thrill in this novel. I would rank False Memory as one of Koontz's top 3 novels (and I have read every Koontz novel published). Is False Memory better than Seize the Night? Absolutely. Thank you Mr. Koontz for a great read!

Summary: THE BEST YET FROM KOONTZ
Review: While I am an unabashed fan of Dean Koontz's work, I have always felt that his greatest strength as a storyteller lies in his ability to construct a compelling plot. However, I have also felt that his characters remain a bit underdeveloped, inhibiting my ability to care about them. (This is, conversely, Stephen King's greatest strength). However, in FALSE MEMORY, it all comes together and this book is without a doubt Koontz's best work ever. In Dr. Mark Ahriman, Koontz has created a villian who rivals Hannibal Lecter in his capacity for pure evil. If you're a Koontz fan, you will LOVE this book. And if you're not, give it a read anyway. You cannot help but be spellbound by it.

Summary: "The writing was good. The plot was entertaining....etc."
Review: I truly enjoyed this book! I have read a few of Koontz's novels and never had any particularly strong feelings either way. (Although I listened to the audio version of Intensity and just loved it!)

But, False Memory was thoroughly entertaining and Dr. Ahriman was a terrific villain. He reminded me a bit of Hannibal Lecter in Silence of the Lambs, in the way that he looked down his nose at people with more plebian tastes than his own in food, decor, etc. A snobby serial killer, such fun! (Along the same lines, he was also a bit like Patrick Bateman in American Psycho.)

It was intriguing to think of how *good* Ahriman's techniques could have been if they were used to *treat* troubled people, rather than create them. Just as he implanted phobias in psychologically healthy people, he could have removed them in troubled people. Of course, this would raise all kinds of ethical concerns about the dangers of "programming" the human mind, etc. But I am wandering off the topic...

I found False Memory to be an exciting book. I looked forward to reading it each day, and would definitely recommend it to friends. Sometimes the writing was a bit corny ("turn more heads than a chiropractor"-type stuff), but all in all it was a lot of fun.

Oh, a brief P.S. - I once read a book about super-intelligent children who were lured to a special school where their brains were transplanted into jars. Was this Koontz? I cannot remember the name of the book or who wrote it. Or, did I just dream the whole thing? Maybe someone can e-mail me with the answer? Thanks.

Summary: Typical Koontz
Review: Dean Koontz' phenomenal talents and his resulting success has created expectations that can never be lived up to. His loyal readers, among whom I gladly number myself, have come to expect "his best yet" with each release. Whether or not this is his best is up to each reader to decide. My personal favorites are "Watchers" and "Dark Rivers of the Heart." Certainly "False Memories" is worth the read and the price. Many reviewers have critized this work as simply rehashed material. Is his work formulaic? Yes, but that is part of his genius and a large part of his success. His readers can identify with the characters. Maybe not with the extraordinary circumstances in which they find themselves, but certainly with the characters and their struggles. Yes his stories are all about good versus evil, but the good versus evil scenarios are not merely extraneous events in relation to the characters. It is about the good versus evil within the characters. His works are about the human condition. Therein lies Koontz' genius. He touches on the human condition --pain, despair, and turmoil, but always with hope. Being intimately familiar with the human condition myself his novels have become almost a form of therapy. Thank you Mr. Koontz and please keep up the good work.

Summary: Great story, but too many pages...
Review: I love Koontz books, and own most of them. This one, however, along with a few of the most recent books, have been dragged out to the point where I find myself skipping huge parts just to get to some excitement! Oh Dean, please please give me what I've been missing! A great page-turner with no need to skip around!
