Rating: Summary: A Definite Favourite Review: The Voice of the Night was the second Dean Koontz book I read, the first being The Servants of Twilight. While not as descriptive as the latter book, it was -- to me -- much more captivating and frightening. One reason I found it so fascinating was because the hero, Colin, and his best friend, Roy, were so young-- fourteen years old. Colin was a fairly typical hero... it was honestly Roy that interested me the most. His sick fascination with death, his penchant for killing, and his overall twisted personality was absolutely captivating. His catch phrase, "a real popper" -- and the origins of that phrase -- always sent chills down my spine. My only complaint was the abrupt ending. It seemed to swift, and if didn't give the reader time to wind down and catch their breath. I was left shaking for a long while afterwards, though, and after I took a break halfway through the book. I finished it in one night, and it's the only Dean Koontz book I've read more than once so far. Excellent, overlooking the weak ending. I had to reccomend it to my friends, and most of them liked it as well. You might, too.

Rating: Summary: Koontz will keep you up well past bedtime Review: This was a great book. I love Koontz, but my friend told me I HAD to read this one, so I did I am glad she made me, I might not have ever gotten to it. It is alittle earlier work. I know this books shows what I think sometimes, ha ha. Koontz is a brillant author, this is one of his best books ever! I would also recammend Whispers and Intensity.
Rating: Summary: One of Koontz's better books Review: This was truly a suspenseful, taut story, well written and fast-paced. The hero, Colin, is a fourteen year old boy who has moved to a new town during his summer break. He has made friends with Roy, an athletic, popular young man. Colin has been a bookworm and a recluse all his young life, and considers himself very lucky to be Roy's friend. But then he discovers Roy's fascination with death...and the horror begins. I give it four stars because the ending was a bit abrupt, but satisfying enough for me. Also, I must say I cannot understand the past reviewers that criticized Koontz for giving the young characters "unrealistic" words and actions. In light of events like the Columbine shootings, it is sadly apparent that adolescents are just as capable of monstrous evil as adults.
Rating: Summary: Read this book!! Review: This book frightened me beyond belief. I love to be scared, but when I find myself holding my breath when the characters are holding their breath, it gets to me. I recommend this book to any fan of " stay up all night, clutching the covers, sleep with the lights on " writers like Dean Koontz. And the worst part is that the book could actually come true. Koontz manages to make his books severely believable and I hope he keeps churning them out.
Rating: Summary: The Voice of the Night Book Review Review: I read a novel by Dean Koontz entitled The Voice of the Night. Dean Koontz is an unquestionably wonderful author. He usually delivers intense, engaging, thrilling pieces of literature. Although he has written several magnificent horror stories, this is far from his greatest work. Meaning The Voice of the Night is not one of his better books. It's actually the worst I've read. On a scale of 1-10 I'd rate this book a 5 because it's only half as good as it should have been. The major reason for my dissatisfaction is that the overall novel was incredibly vapid. In the beginning of the story Koontz gives gratuitous information about the characters' hobbies. The entire first part of the book was far too long. It picked up speed and became interesting long enough to regain my attention in the middle. Unfortunately, it quickly became boring again. The second reason I didn't like the book was because of the ending. You are left with copious questions and a pathetic excuse for an ending. The conclusion brings no closure. Although the novel was mostly dull, Koontz used a great deal of detail, which in turn produced vivid images. If you liked Koontz's other work such as Intensity, Sole Survivor, or A Door To December I would suggest you skip reading this novel. You will save yourself the disappointment of Dean Koontz failing to deliver his usual best.
Rating: Summary: other emotions Review: I like to be scared ... thrilled. This book was good but it also played on other emotions. I couldn't help but get caught up.
Rating: Summary: Very very creepy! Review: I have been a fan of Dean Koontz for a long time and have read almost every book he has ever written. This particular book is very disturbing. I don't think I will ever forget how crazy the character Roy is and how creepy he acts. Just wanting to know what kind of sick things he had planned next made me keep turning the pages until I was done. However, I have to say that I was really disappointed with the ending. The entire novel is spent building up Roy as an extremely strong, stubborn, and basically psychotic boy who will stop at nothing to destroy his ex-friend Colin, and I won't tell you how it ends, but let me just say that I was very disappointed that the climax was so short and that the fight between the two boys doesnt last very long at all. I definitely expected more. Other than that, this book is a must-read for any Koontz fan!
Rating: Summary: not well written Review: This is the kind of book that makes me doubt that it takes any talent to become a novelist aside from a general ability to compose a sentence and outline a plot. I don't care. I'm tired of pretending every successful writer can actually write. This book was contrived, forced, the dialogue rang completely untrue. The things Koontz seemed to want us to feel or think about the characters we didn't naturally feel or think about them. I found myself disagreeing with every "assessment" the narrator made regarding the characters. I don't have anything against Koontz, he can set up a sort of suspenseful pace that makes you keep reading, but aside from that I felt this book was badly written and showed a marked ignorance about how human beings act, talk, think...
Rating: Summary: This was early Koontz, EXCELLENT coming of age... Review: story about two boys. This reminded me of "Stand By Me" and "Boys Life." It was a very good story about two young boys and a murder!! This was early Koontz and showed what he could do with young characters. The plot is good, flows smoothly at times, characters ar good, and is a nice read. It can be finished in a couple sittings! Koontz shows depth with the youngsters and this is an enjoyable read!
