Rating: Summary: This book is horrible. Review: This book offers no literary value to this world what so ever. The contents of the book are horrifing and I can not believe someone could actually find it within them to write this trash.
Rating: Summary: Great Stuff Review: Save "The Lottery" for last, because it will stick in your mind forever. When one thinks Masterpiece, one thinks unforgettable. This is a true masterpiece. The symbolism will chill your winter evenings, and arouse your consciousness. Enjoy.
Rating: Summary: A twisted story about a small town lottery gone fatal. Review: I gave this plot a 5 star rating because it was a great plot. All through the story they talk about the lottery but never say what happens when you "win". It kept me wondering,"What next?", and it really held my interest. I especially liked the suprise ending. The characters in this story recieve a 3 star rating because there were too many of them and it was hard to keep track of who the story was talking about. Also, there was no real main character. There was one main setting and that was good. The time wasn't really mentioned but there was not a lot of setting changes so it was easy to keep track of where the characters were. I gave the setting a 4 star rating. Overall, by averaging out all the scores above, I came up with giving this story a 4 stars rating. Go check it out and see what you think, I definately recomend it.
Rating: Summary: Powerful and Vivid Review: The meaning of Shirley Jackson's "The Lottery" is one that is darkly ambiguous, and creeps into your soul...it will leave you feeling cold, alone, and disturbed. always present is a deep undercurrent of fear and panic that will tug at your heart.
Rating: Summary: i like this book! Review: because: it shows that if you're late with your appointments, you could be the sacrifice for the day.
Rating: Summary: This is a intreiging book about the world Review: this book is interesting and quite evil. I was quite taken by it and read a few more of Shirley Jackson's book after. It is quite dark, but it is so interesting and twisted.
Rating: Summary: I read it at fifteen...I reread it at twenty-five... Review: and guess what? I'll probably read it again many times. Whenever I delve into the eerily familiar landscape of Jackson's "The Lottery", I regress to the terrified small girl I once was, watching 'The Twilight Zone' or 'The Village of the Damned'in the dark with a mug of warm cocoa to help remove the chill from my bones and the blue tinge of the television tube the only light in the room. I am scared. I am happy. I am guilty for digging the perversity of this sick small town. I am positively rapt by the storytelling.
Rating: Summary: Memorable Review: This is one of those books that you read once and remember forever. Some books one reads and the memory of what happens fades. This one remains vivid in the memory forever.
Rating: Summary: An absolute must for readers!!! Review: I read The Lottery back in eigth grade. It scared me so much, I had nightmares for a week. Now that I am a sophomore in college, I still have yet to find a story that was as shocking and horrifying as this one. If you are looking for a story with a twist, The Lottery has all the twists and irony you could ask for.
Rating: Summary: Incredible Review: I am not much into books, but when I read this one, it was like an awaking for me it is GREAT! because it is alot like life, you do not know who will be chosen next to do the task. As Forest Gump says " Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know whatcha gonna next". Kudos Shirley!
