Summary: Long live Poppy!
Review: I recently read "Lost Souls," Poppy Z. Brite's first novel in two two days. Yesterday I purchased "Drawing Blood" and finished all 403 pages of it one sitting. Poppy is now my favorite author of fiction.

"Drawing Blood" is a haunted house novel. But where many authors make the mistake of putting the spirited house front and center, Poppy puts it on the back burner. Brought down to an excrutiating simmer, she focuses on her two protagonists. Zach is a hacker on the run who ends up in Missing Mile. Trevor is the only survivor of his father's murderous rampage through the shadowy hallways of the house on Violin Road. Tortured Trevor returns there twenty years later to confront the horrors that still reside within the bloody house. The narrative counts more on vivid descriptions and the beautifully executed relationship of Trevor and Zach, giving this novel far more power, soul, and love that her first fantastic outing.

This hypnotic book could have faltered and been ruined by Poppy's lengthy description of Trevor and Zach entering another world. When Anne Rice does this sort of thing, I am bored to death. When Poppy Z. Brite does it, I'm captivated, hanging on to every richly conceived word.

It's interesting to ponder the role of women in Poppy's books. In "Lost Souls," Jessy and Ann die, and in "Drawing Blood" Eddy doesn't get what she wants most.

In short, Poppy Z. Brite is the most creative and captivating blockbuster novelist of our time. Anne Rice doesn't deserve the title.

Summary: You'll never read a better book.
Review: Terver is a master artist and a tortured soul. His journey back to the house of his childhood is a story he'll never forget. In this journey he meets Zach, a computer hacker on the run from the FBI, and the two have many adventures. I've read over a hundred books, but no book has capitived me so. Drawing Blood is a masterpiece. Poppy Z. Brite is at her best when she wrote this book. Welcome to Birdland...

Summary: Brite Is Simply The Greatest
Review: Brite has held the position of being my favorite practitioner of horror since I first read her novel Lost Souls. I have now read everything she has published, and love her just as much. She writes in a beautifuly poetic quality like none I've seen before.

This novel is a very modernized retelling of the Haunted House story (with its own original emements), a beautiful love story (between two guys--be warned now if this offends you), and the metaphoric refference to a seperate comic world called BirdLand (but it does not remain only a metaphor for the entire story.) The characters are all very well drawn: a boy who's father, in a drunken rage, kills his mother, brother, and himself; an interesting computer hacker; a New Orleans stipper helplessly in love with her gay friend; and a Jamaican-American/local marajuana dealer with a good heart.

I recommend this book to anyone who has previously enjoyed Brite, and anyone who has yet to discover her.

Summary: My First
Review: WHERE HAVE I BEEN?? I had never even heard of her until TNT aired a documentary about EVIL. After I saw this I knew her work would be fantastic and I was not in the least bit disappointed -- in fact she succeeded in surpassing all my expectations. The entire time I was reading this I felt as if I was actually in the book with the characters-I could see and feel everything-- I can't wait to read more from her. This book just blew my mind as it was like nothing I have ever read and I LOVED THE ENDING!!!!!!!!

Summary: A sensation to read!
Review: I was told to read Drawing Blood for an extreme thrill. I must admit that I wasn't disappointed. Although I'm usually not a big fan of intense murder plots or mystery schemes, this book was amazing! Zach is an expert computer hacker on the run; Trevor is the young comic writer, following in his father's footsteps and determined to find out why he is still alive even after his father took the lives of the rest of his family. The two men meet and fall hopelessly in love. They journey together on their quest for peace from the things that haunt them the most.

This book kept me on the edge of my seat, page after page. The suspense of the heart-pumping story of these two young men keeps you wondering what will happen next, will they escape their hells? This book is a definite read! It is a sensation, a thrill, a satisfying urge, all at your fingertips.

Summary: i have not words to describe it, but i'll try!
Review: I was once in a used book store and found Lost Souls, i took it home and read it, never for one second knowing the hold it would have on my life and my frame of mind. A couple of months later i purchaced Drawing Blood, hoping it would at least be half as good as Lost Souls, i was, to say the least, pleasantly suprised. Brite drew me into her world so quickly that i read this book in one sitting, and i have done so again with this book about four times more. Never in all my life have i read such a book that enthralls me, captures my attention, that i have read it in one sitting. I thouroughly reccomend this book to anyone with a free night.

Summary: One Word: Amazing!
Review: This book is one of my all time favorites! It is so incredible. I cant believe some of these bad reviews. This book is brilliant. Not a dull moment. And the characters are unforgetable.

Summary: Not your typical Poppy book
Review: This book was a huge let down after reading Lost Souls and The Crow first. While it has an excellent plot...but the characters lacked depth. When I read Lost Souls it literally became my world. I was sucked in and lived with the characters. However...in Drawing Blood, maybe I might have missed something, but, I was not pleased. The story was not weaving an invisible blanket around me. For those of you who have never read Poppy before, do not start with this book. She is so very talented....try something a little bit better first.
