Rating: Summary: it's movie material! Review: I loved "Meg", and "The Trench" both are books that I read over and over again. They have a quality to them that I haven't seen. In Meg the first chapter grips you into what you are about to read. I loved both, and I'll read the next and next. I believe that both of these would be great movies. Especially "Meg".
Rating: Summary: The Trench Review: ONE GREAT UNANSWERED QUESTION: WHAT KIND OF WRITER CAN'T WRITE? I didn't read the end, or the middle, or much of the beginning. I felt, why should I bother reading if the writer didn't bother writing? By the way, I wasn't looking for literature. I brought the book on a vacation to Mexico. My intention was to read mindless crap. This didn't even rise to that expectation. Oh, well, maybe that's why it's called "The Trench."
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: This is actually one of the only few great sequels out there. It is definately one book that will keep you turning the pages to learn whats going to happen next!!
Rating: Summary: A strong sequel surpasses original Meg. Review: Steve Alten's sequel to Meg is quite an improvement. The Trench reads like an actual book as opposed to a simple adaptation of a mega-budget Summer Monster Movie screenplay. All the surviving characters return to do battle with the newly escaped Angel the Baby Meg and two very hissable villians from the James Bond Super Villian Mold. It's all very predictable, but heart pounding fun nonetheless. If you're addicted to all things aquatic monster (like I am) then this one is a must read.
Rating: Summary: Mikes Great Review Review: I loved this book soooo much is was a very good book since im into sharks this was a great book to read i liked this very much. Thank you for writing such a good book
Rating: Summary: STUFF THAT SHOUDLN'T HAVE BEEN THERE Review: The cloak and dagger plot involving Benedict Singer and the JAMSTEC corporation was unneccessary and should not have been used. Furthermore, I found the profanity atrocious. I can't understand why the author wrote it! The cursing was just as bad in MEG! Only a moron resorts to profanity! However, the believability that megalodons exist and with the addition of kronosaurus, makes a very interesting story. I can't wait for the MEG movie to debut!
Rating: Summary: fear in a mouth full of teeth Review: first of all, i have never been compelled to write a review of a book because i feel it is not my place to distinguish a good book from a bad book. i have read michael crichton's jurassic park and the lost world, but this book surpasses his excellence by leaps and bounds. the author of this book is a genius. this book had me sitting on the edge of my seat yearning for more. it has a great love story with a wicked little twist named celeste. well, nevertheless, this book has me hooked and i'm going to read it again. i love this book. i highly reccomend this book to anyone who wants to feel like a hero. great book and i give it two thumbs up.
Rating: Summary: Steve Alten is awesome!!! Review: I have recently become a big fan of Steve's. The research that goes into one of his books is enormous!! (Check out Domain!!) He is also very easy to access. I emailed him with a couple of questions, and he wrote back the next day! Check him out-- you won't be disappointed!
Rating: Summary: The best sequel book ever... Review: Meg was the best book I ever read and to have a sequel, Well I'm telling you It's the equivelant of Shakespeares Hamlet 2. I'm usually a harsh book critic, yet Steven Alten writes in a manour that prevents me from either being critical of, or putting down his books. Read this as soon as you've read Meg and go out hunting for Steve Altens third (non MEG related book) DOMAIN. Another awesome read...
Rating: Summary: Another great novel by Steve Alten Review: I have read all of Steve Alten's books, including his new oneDomain. The Trench is what caught my eye in this summere I am an avid book reader and his bookcover stuck out, so I read the back and decided to buy it. I have read Jaws, seen all of the Jaws, Deep Blue Sea, Lake Placid, ect movies. Sharks have been my favorite since I was a child, they amaze me. Well, when I got home I sat down to read it, needless to say, I never put it down, I was late waking my husband for work(3rd shift). I was amazed, it was so realistic. I sort of saw it as the sharks revenge on mankind for being so cruel to them( the horrible clubbings that fishermen do, if an attack happens people seem to hunt down this "horrible" shark(usually a great white) forgetting that the sea is the sharks domain, not mans, they were hear first, they outlived the dinosaurs. So in a sense The Trench was a sort of great white shark revenge. What happened if a megaladon is alive? People can club it without being swallowed first, they can't hunt it down, it would eat the boat!!! The book gripped my attention because it was so realistic, we do not know what surprises the sea holds. Steve has done a great job by letting the reader know about the sharks sort of point of view too, how it is primal and it hunts for food, it will taste everything it comes in contact with, because it is its nature, not because it sees man as a food item. After reading The Trench I found out about Meg and I ordered it right away. It makes you think about many things in life and nature and nature can be crueler than any god. It can be peaceful then suddenly turn by bringing back the prehistoric creatures that haunt our dreams. I hope everyone is able to read these books, they are breathtaking!! Steve Alten deserves much success, he is brilliant and he cares about his readers. I hope someday they will make the movie Meg, if so I will be first in line to see it!! Read the book, you won't be disappointed!!!!
