Summary: Totally Awesome.
Review: Mr. Alten far exceeds his other books in "The Trench", his work is just so real, I compliment him on a job well done, and I can't wait to read his other books that are yet to be releases.

Summary: Great Book
Review: "The Trench," by Steve Alten. Alten Takes you down into the deep of the Mariana Trench once again. With new exciting charactars and the great original ones. It all starts with action packed chaos. Sweaty palms, and frantic crew men scrabeling around the computer screens of the four man sub, named Proteus. At thirty-four thousand, seven hundred and eighteen feet down in the Mariana Trench, three unidentified objects aproched, atacked, and destroyed the sub with quik swift movement. Back on the surface of the world, Profeser Jonas Talor captured a baby M.E.G. (a prehistoric shark) in Altens prvios book "M.E.G." The Baby shark grew to full size in captivity of a very large "fish bowl," called the Tanaka Lagoon. Origonaly built to study whales, it was able to hold the giant shark. For the time being. The Lagoon was built off the Monterey coast to attract migrating whales in to mate. Once the whales were in, the doors were shut. The prehistoric shark soon slamed the doors with such force, from sencing the migrating whales pasing by, that the steel doors broke off. A killing machine on the loose once again. Profeser Jonas Talor is going to have his hands full. This book is great. Full of adventure, excitment, and a little romance.

Summary: Unrealistic
Review: The Trench was an unrealistic book that left many questions. First of all, how would an air breathing, shallow water lizard such as the Kronosaurus evolve lungs and deep water tolerance within one hundred years? Even if it somehow could, it's food source would change so dramatically that whatever Kronosaurs' were left after the Cretaceous period would probably die off. Also, the Charcarodon Megalodon is thought to have been extinct for over three thousand years. If it was at all possible that this giant shark has been able to elude us for all of this time, what makes you think that it would instinctively have a taste for humans. After all, when this animal lived, there was no such thing as even a Primate. Even though that these ideas were very creative it's most likely that none of this could ever happen. Not to say that I didn't enjoy the book though. It was very creative and gripping.

Summary: the trench
Review: I feel that the book is full of suspense. I also feel that the side plot about Terry Taylor was equally as suspensefull. I really would like to see this book as a movie. Could you let the meg lovers of the world know if this becomes a plan to make one?

Summary: Attention Grabber
Review: This novel has been the most exciting novel I've ever read. I read a lot and I am 16 yrs old. I have read all of Steven Kings books, though I had never read any of Steve Altens Books. I began with Meg. I loved it after I caught word that The Trench was published, I immediatly went out and bought it. I know own both books. I've read them at least a hundred times. I recamend both to everyone. If you want action and excitemnet these are definatly the books to read. Only Step left it to make the movies. I must say congradulations for creating yet another masterpiece. Thank you Mr. Alten for giving me and many other readers the oppertunity to read one of your many masterpieces.

Summary: 3.5 stars really
Review: The sequel to MEG loses something as author Steve Alten adds [human] violence, sex, and a rediculous plot to control the world to make THE TRENCH more mainstream. Taking place several years after the events of MEG, which saw a female Carcaradon megalodon escaping from the ultra-deep Mariana Trench and eating lots of unsuspecting folks, we find our hero, Jonas Taylor, severely distraught after years of playing nursemaid to Angel, the captive daughter of the original Meg. Angel eventually escapes, and is chased by Jonas and his crazy copter pilot friend Mackriedes while they simaltaneously battle Big Corporate Baddies. Like MEG, TRENCH's shark scenes are terrifying (especially if you're scared of sharks in the first place), but the Evil Corporation plot that takes up the other half of the book is stupid, though enjoyable. Despite its shortcomings, I highly recommend both it and MEG.

Summary: You Won't Be Able To Put It Down
Review: Have you ever watched a movie that grabbed hold of your attention to the point that you didn't want to leave the room until the movie was over? Well this book will have the same effect on you. You will easily read through most of it the very first day. Not many books, these days, can do that.
