Summary: I didn't want to put it down.
Review: I read "The Trench" in two sittings. It was a page-turner, and I didn't want to put it down. A book like that is always a pleasant read.

Alten does a great job creating characters that evoke emotional responses in readers. Celeste was so beautiful and she turned my stomach...a very well-written character. I felt Terry's frustration at her plight and was rooting for her. Jonas has always been a good-guy worth cheering for.

Benedict seemed a James Bond-ish, arch-villian. Of the principal characters, he seemed the least real, but he was fun in that villanous meglomaniac kind of way. It fit in with all the CIA/fusion cartel stuff, so he didn't feel out of place. Those aspects of the novel actually seemed less real and less believable than the Carcharadon megaladon, which Alten treats with much passion and excitement. I, too, would like to believe there are still big unknowns lurking out there in the world!

Alten keeps giving us new ways to see Angel. It wasn't just the same old "shark stalks boat, shark attacks boat, shark eats boaters" kind of thing. The fight with the sperm whale, the Tootie/tall ship sequence (where he showed us a tired and distraught Angel), and Jonas' stint on the sea lion carcass were all different and exciting ways to give the reader plenty of "shark action."

I was pleasantly surprised (in a morbid kind of way, I guess) that he resisted temptation and didn't rescue Tootie at the last second. Angel's head caught in the bloody net with shards of whale blubber made an unexpected and effective image. Another memorable sequence was when Jonah was examining the sea gate and found himself submerged among the great whites. Great scene!

Overall, it was a lot of fun to read. So was "Meg." Buy them. Read them. Have a good time with them.

Summary: Combines Clive Cussler and Jaws with a dash of monster
Review: Alten's second book is much better plotted than his first, Meg. Much of it reads like Clive Cussler, but with a monster added for exitement. This is definitely *THE* summer beach read! Here's hoping Alten keeps 'em coming.

Summary: Alten has done it again!
Review: This followup to "Meg" does a fantastic job of living up to its predecessor and even surpassing it. Great action scenes, intriguing characters, and a terrifying shark make for a must-read book this summer. Read it, you won't regret it.

Summary: READ THIS BOOK!!!
Review: When i first read the book meg i found it fast moving and fun to read and reccomended it to all my friends they loved it too. But then i learned there was going to be a sequal and i thought it was too good to be true so as soon as i could i got and began reading as fast as i could. When i finished i found it to be as fast moving as the first and action packed i was on the edge of my seat the whole time. If you read the first book by him you will love it, If you havent read his first book go buy it and read it then go buy "The Trench"

Summary: The daughter of MEG has returned and she is hungry.
Review: Jonas must face his fears to try and put an end to the largest carnivore in the sea. His life seems to be unraveling in front of him and the shark is bent on returning to the Trench.

Not only does Jonas have to face the shark, but the many people who want to use him and his knowledge to their own gain.

Jonas goes in search of the shark, to kill it, and comes face to face with the fact that his wife is in mortal danger. Not only is she in danger, but she is located in the one spot in the world that gives Jonas nightmares, The Trench.

The ending to this saga takes place miles below the surface and is nerve racking to the end.

Read the book in two nights and enjoyed the whole story. Didn't want to put it down and didn't want it to end.

Summary: It blew my mind like a hurricane over a sewage plant!!!!!!!!
Review: In a class by itself. The trench draws on the same well of creative genius and originality that Vanilla Ice and Milli Vanilli have mined with such success. Has any one ever heard a giant shark story before? Gee, it seems somehow familiar, don't it. Kudos to Mr. Alten!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: An action packed thriller that you won't be able to put down
Review: The Trench is an extraordiinary sequel to Alten's first book, MEG. This book sets us up for yet another great sequel, which I can only hope is written. Not many other books can compare to The Trench. If you like suspense, a great storyline, and giant sharks, this is the book you.

Summary: A fun, fast and thrilling read!
Review: If you liked Steve Alten's NY Times best-seller, MEG, then you'll love THE TRENCH. It's a high octane, thrill-a-minute, pulse-pounding, heart-stopper of a read, with plenty of villains to hate, heroes to root for, and subplots to get caught up in.

THE TRENCH has something for everyone: for the science buff, fascinating details about deep-sea submersibles and the exotic life forms that lurk in the ocean's depths; for action lovers, literally dozens of action sequences that would be mind-blowing on the big screen; for the romantic at heart, a subplot that is a touching testament to the power of love.

Some people, such as "a reader from Philadelphia, PA" (see review below), seem to think that Alten is aiming for a Pulitzer Prize with THE TRENCH. To such people I say: "Lighten up, will ya?!" To any discerning reader it should be obvious that Alten has no such literary aspirations. If you're looking for a detailed examination of controversial social issues or profound insights into the human condition, look elsewhere. But if you want to be thrilled, entertained, and scared even, then read THE TRENCH. (About the only weakness in the book, and it's a minor one at that, is the occasionally sloppy editing.)

In short, THE TRENCH is a Hollywood blockbuster just waiting to happen. It's a fun, fast and thrilling read. But don't take my word for it. Check it out for yourself!

Summary: Thrilling book with many twist's and turns!
Review: This book was a cut above Meg. I found myself wondering what would happen next. Steve Alten did a nice job with transition of main characters from Meg to The Trench. I would highly recomend it to any one!
