Summary: Action, Suspense and a Little Mystery Makes Up The Trench
Review: The Trench is a great thriller that involves a larger shark than the one in Meg. There are plenty of action scenes where the shark, named "Angel," attacks unsuspecting humans, and creatures! My favorite scene was the battle of the two titans of the sea, "Mad Max," and "Angel." Jonas goes through the weeks experiencing his nightmares unfold. A woman named Celeste tries to get close to Jonas, only to use him and ruin his marriage. But luckily Jonas has enough will power to the withstand her and keep himself from dieing in her trap. This book is a must read, for those who like a lot of action, suspense, and mystery.

Summary: A well thought out, action packed sharkfest!
Review: Meg was just the beginning. The Trench is amazing blend of action and suspense. With the gigantic killer shark, and other creatures in the deep, Steve Alten has crafted an amazing tale that kept me on the edge of my seat. Through the events in Meg, we find Jonas a hardened man who is suffering with every day that his Angel is alive. And his wife, Terry, is locked away in one of the deepest places on earth- a place of dark terror. If you thought Meg was good, buy this book now!

Summary: A REWARDING READ
Review: Couldn't stop turning the pages, and was rewarded with one grisly scene after another. I loved it! Now, I'm hoping it'll be made into a movie so I can be scared senseless all over again. And, by the way, you don't need to read MEG first to enjoy this one.

Summary: Can't be as charitable as the rest of you...
Review: I have been anxiously waiting for Trench for months, way back when it was going to be published as Fathom. I was disappointed. True, there was lots of shark action and the story line was interesting and woven with sub-plots which kept my interest up. But, I found the sexual inuendo and references gratuitous and somehow out of place. I felt it unnecessary and distracting in this book. However, I am still an Alten fan. Best beach books I have ever read (except for Clive Cussler!!!!!!!)

Summary: A real page turner
Review: This book is a great sequel to "Meg". A real page turner with new twists and surprises. Professor Jonas Taylor returns in this book and so do his fears. A great combination of suspense and horror, you won't be able to put the book down. This book will make you think twice, or maybe three times, before going back into the ocean. Mr Alten's descriptive words paint very vivid pictures. This would make a SUPER big screen movie.

Summary: Great read. Can't wait for his next book.
Review: I read MEG when it came out and really like the book for it's action and suspense. The new book, THE TRENCH, was every bit as good and even better as I liked the new monsters in the deep adding to the story line. This author has certainly hit upon a style of writing the will appeal to the reader who likes a book that gives you the knot in the stomach feeling as you read. The story came to life for me and I could feel myself breathing harder and reading faster as Jonas had to deal with all sorts of problems as he faced Angel. Absolutely a great read. I can't wait for the authors new book DOMAIN to be done.

Summary: no one is safe in the water
Review: Picking up where his last novel Meg left off. The main character Jonas is back, a few years older and not doing all that well. After Jonas attack with the orginal meg, he is still having nightmares. Oroblems at home and work doesnt help to ease the stress he is going through. This is where the true terror begins. I found Mr Atlens first book to be a little more tense and edge of your seat, but dont get me wrong the man does not disappoint anyone. In fact his writting has greatly progressed, his characters seem more fleshed out, more real if you get my meaning. You may even start to feel symapathic towards Angel (the new queen of the ocean). Almost a mondern day Moby Dick in the whole mad revenge plot. I found the book to be a very engrossing read from start to finish. In fact I couldnt put the book down. Im sure you always here that , but in my case it is true. I sat down one night on the couch and just finished it in one night. The chapters are not long and the story just flows from one page to the next. Always wanting to see who Angel meets next and who will survive. Irecommend this book highly in fact as you read this you can see it as a movie. It always nice when you read a book and the visuals just leap right out at you. Hey its a big shark no its really big it makes bruce (shark from jaws) look like a gold fish. All I know is when I see the 7 foot fin coming its all over

Summary: Well Done Steve, Keep Writing!
Review: A great sequel to MEG. With unexpected outcomes, I read this book in one sitting. The story doesn't need to continue and was rounded up quite nicely. What do you have in stall for your fans next Steve???

Summary: As riveting and fast paced as Meg
Review: Two summers ago I found Meg purely on accident, and it was a very pleasant surprise. I was thrilled to find The Trench this summer. It is as compelling and action packed as Meg, with a few more twists. Steve Alten has a gift for description. He takes you on a rollercoaster ride that keeps you cringing, yet anxious for more! Its the kind of book that can make your mind play tricks on you as you leisurley head into the ocean on your next vacation. This is a great summer weekend read, because that's about how long it will take to finish it. You'll have a hard time putting it down. Great job Mr. Alten, keep them coming.

Summary: Even better than MEG!!
Review: I could not put this book down! It was wonderfully written and even more thrilling than Meg.

I also loved the addition of another new terror in the trench.

I would love to see this made into a movie!
