Rating: Summary: Far better than its sequel Review: As much as I enjoyed Meg, one of my disappointments was the lack of character development. The Trench manages to flesh out the protagonists, antagonists, and even the walk-ons with personalities, pasts, and hopeful futures; still, it maintains the pace and perspective needed to create a believable, engrossing tale. Meanwhile, the story has expanded to include everything from fusion reactors to archosaurian palaeontogy, weaving it all into a watertight [sorry...slipped] plotline which sustains the reader through the final page. This book, which describes enough of the backstory to be read as a standalone, is highly recommended. Steve has earned five stars for this work --Gremlin admin@gremlin.net
Rating: Summary: You are not going to read a better thriller!! Review: The Trench starts from where Meg left off. It is an exciting and equally thrilling novel that gets you turning page after page. I can really see this as a great film. I pictured many people playing the various parts. It does have a couple of sceintific errors in it but the story just picks you up and keeps carrying you to the end and before you know it you are wanting a third book in the series. It is well worth a read but maybe ot while you are lying on a beach!!!!
Rating: Summary: Excellent Read Review: A nice gruesome killer of the deep "whale" of a tale, or so to speak. If you like this kind of book, you'll love this one. It sounds like there's a movie in the works, so I guess that is a good thing. I would like to think that books can stand on their own and don't have to be turned into someone else's work by splashed on the big screen.
Rating: Summary: Adventure, thriller, horror? Something for all. Review: If you thought a 60 foot prehistoric ancestor to the great white shark in "MEG" was frightening then her 72 foot female offspring will have you glued to your seat reading through this fast paced thriller as the monster escapes and searches the coast lines for food. You literally cannot put the book down for fear you will spend the time worry about what will happen next. It's exciting and well written. And while all that is happening there is another plot taking place at the same time. Steve Alten manages to bring both together in an exciting conclusion.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic and action-packed. It would make a great movie. Review: Steve Alten uses great detail but never bores the reader. He unleashes a prehistoric monster that would take anyone's breath away, but makes it seem as though it could actually exist. A suspenseful thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat and gripping the book. Unable to put the book down, it took me just two days to finish. This book would make a great motion-picture.
Rating: Summary: GREAT!!!!!!!! Review: hey, i thot that MEG wuz great!!!! and so was the trench!!! i cant wait 4 the movie to come out. i am gonna be the first one 2 see it!!!! the only criticism i have is the sex scene, it was interesting to read but out of place, also it focused on the bad guy, and not so much on the shark, like MEG did. but i still think that Alten is still a great author!!!! good luck on your other books and i hope the movie will be a success!!!
Rating: Summary: The best book ever!!!! Review: This book has everything you could possibly want in a book. It has horror, action, suspense, mystery, and romance. It is fast pace and you could never put it down once you started. It is never dull and it keeps you to the edge of your seat. It is also very easy to picture what is happening and you won't forget it for a long time!! So you should buy it.
Rating: Summary: Great read! Review: Anyone who enjoyed Meg will find that Mr. Alten has exceeded expectations. Rarely is a sequel better than the original, but in this case the author has accomplished that rare feat.
Rating: Summary: Good Follow-Up Review: I enjoyed MEG and was pleasently surprised that The Trench was even better. Keep up the good work!
Rating: Summary: awesome sequel Review: THE TRENCH IS A GREAT SEQUEL TO MEG. I COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN. THE IDEA OF A SHARK THAT OLD COMING TO THE SURFACE IS SO AMAZING AND SOUNDS SO TRUE. WHEN YOU THINK OF THE POSSIBILTY OF PREHISTORIC CREATURES LIVING IN THE UNKNOWN DEPTHS OF THE OCEAN IT'S JUST BREATH TAKING. I HOPE THEY MAKE A MOVIE FROM THIS BOOK.IF SO I'LL BE THE FIRST IN LINE TO SEE IT AROUND HERE. STEVE ALTEN HAS MADE MY DREAMS OF SHARKS COME TRUE. I HOPE HE KEEPS WRITING ABOUT THEM.KEEP EXPLORING THE UNKNOWN EVEN IF IT IS FICTION.
