Summary: I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!
Review: The Trench is an extremely well-written and exciting novel. It has a giant sahrk -- waht's not to like. I was up all night reading it and by the time I reached the end, I couldn't fall asleep because I was so excited! I recommend The Trench to anyone who isn't extremely scared of sharks.

Summary: Creighton Move Over!
Review: After reading The Trench I became very angry... angry that it ended. I honestly couldn't put the book down and was dreading the last page. I remember having the same reaction after reading Alten's first book, Meg.

I really don't think you can compare Steve Alten to Benchly. Sure, there are similarities in subject matter, however, Alten's story-telling abilities a far superior. In fact, Alten reminds me of another great story teller. You may have heard of him...Michael Creighton. I expect Steve Alten to be a shining force on the book scene in the new millenium.

I'm looking forward to the future but for now, I'm just plain angry. I'll only be happy when Alten's next book comes out. But then, I assume I'll be angry again. God it's tough being a fan of Steve Alten.

Summary: Very grabbing for the first 309 pages.
Review: As the title says, it is very interesting to read for the first 309 pages. Unfortunately it becomes so unrealistic after that that the ending was not as satisfactory as I was hoping for. Still most of the book is good and as a first writing effort it is not bad at all. Just because I did not consider the ending realistic does not mean that I won't read the Trench. I'd like to think that the author has learned and evolved. So I will definitely read the follow up book some time.

Summary: excellent
Review: Enjoy this book vary much. I love suspense and this one is one of the tops. It would be good to put it in a movie.

Summary: Realistic, and thats maybe the scariest thing
Review: Like I said in the title, the shark isn't the scariest thing in the book, even though its right up there, but I think the real scary thing is how simple it was to believe. Some of the human plots were a little hard to grasp, but for the most part I found things believable. I didn't read the original MEG, maybe thats why I was a little unsure of some stuff, but I will be reading it now. Steve Alten really impressed me here by not just being a Peter Benchley ripoff, and just following the same basic idea. Sure some stuff was similar but when you write about sharks eating people I assume you really can't get especially creative. And personally I'm hoping for a third book now.

Review: Okay I'm in with the Shark, megalodon thing and this book is so great. Steve Alten is such a great writer and I think he should write a load more novels. I've been on his Megalodon web page and its as good as his books-Laura_is_cool.Deathstar
