Rating: Summary: Thrills and Chills Review: My best friend lent me his copy of Lost Souls, the back cover saying "Blood, Sex, and Rock 'n Roll" I was totally skeptical but once I started reading it and could not put it down untill it was over... crying, for the love of some very realistic characters and wanting it never to end. I love this book and its erotic vampires. I've only one question, did Drawing Blood happen before, or after Lost Souls?
Rating: Summary: ....my best friend at 4:00am.... Review: First off, I'd like to say that whoever wrote the Kirkus review on this book should be flogged mercilessly and fired for doing their job so poorly. The review has the flavor of a kid doing a book report on a book they hardly bothered to read, and I feel sorry for any one who actually thinks this is what Lost Souls is all about. Just as an example, any die hard LS fan knows that only one rape occurred in the whole novel, the one he/she DIDN'T mention. That's what Kirkus gets for having a rectally clogged individual review a very erotically inclined book. Oh, well. This book is not for those faint of heart, or anyone who has the misfortune of being homophobic.I bought my first copy of this book when I turned the ripe age of thirteen, (I say my first copy because it was stolen by an overzealous ex who said it smelled of my essence, and I had to buy a new one. Go figure.) and I was looking for the caped, cross-fearing, reluctant teeny-bopper vampire I was so used to, and ne! edless to say, I didn't find it here. At first it angered me, this carnal turn she took my supernatural hero of the night down, taking away the reluctance, the mystique, and replacing it with sharpened teeth, Ziggy Stardust, and more drugs than you can imagine, but then I found myself unable to put the book down. I followed the path her ideas took me down, and I fell in love with them all. Steve and Ghost are like dear friends, who I can find cruising down a deserted road in the T-bird any time I want. (Reading "Angels" in Poppy's Wormwood almost brought me to tears, revisiting my two old friends in a different time of their lives.) And although Ann doesn't truly come in until Chapter 12, she tugs at my heart every appearance she makes. Her last thoughts are heavily dog-eared and tear-stained. Then there's Nothing, a perfect combination of his tragic child-mother Jessy and his sleek, murderous father Zillah, the original lost soul. The poor boy, who's simple, easy ch! arm and wide-eyed spoiled innocence rips your heart open an! d makes it want to bleed over his lips. Poppy Brite brought these characters to life in such a vivid and lush way, they turned my ideas around and became my friends when I thought I was alone, something everyone needs sometimes. I was one of the children in black, with too many razors onhand, too much eyeliner on, and too many Camel cigarettes, and this book was my bestfriend. I recommend this book to anyone, no matter what you're looking for. I got through that phase, and I came out of it just fine, but no matter what, Lost Souls is what I turn to at 4:00am.
Rating: Summary: A great jurney of discovrey Review: For those poor souls who have nothing at home or school besides themselves this is for you. Poppy Z. Brite has written an emaculate story of self discovery of a boy who feels as many forgotten teenagers due, alone. One just has to look beyond the sex and drugs to find the true meaning of the book, self worth. The main chracter had to find himself before he could discover his self worth, as some many of todays youth need to do.
Rating: Summary: Delicious book for anyone who loves vampires Review: This book is totally amazing.... it's blunt eroticism and gorgeous descriptions will blow your mind. The story takes the "Bram Stoker" out of the concept of "vampire" and turns it into something the reader can (believe it or not) identify with. It goes by so fast that when you finish it, you can't help wanting more. The characters are fascinating and the story is haunting... anyone who reads this book will never forget it.
Rating: Summary: This is the best book i have ever read. Review: I first read this book when I was 13 years old and I loved it then as I love it now. I have read it over 4 times and it has never failed to amaze me. I love all the characters and I can relate to all of them. I love how Nothing finds out who his real family is and how Zillah, Molachai, and Twig are together. They remind me of some friends. The only other thing I can say is READ THIS BOOK!!!!
Rating: Summary: An incredible work of TRUE horror... Review: There is nothing more petrifying than being able to RELATE to a book entitled LOST SOULS. That was the most frightening aspect of the story. The characters become so real and lifelike that the reader falls in love with them, good or bad. It is difficult not to mourn over the many deaths that occur throughout the story. It is difficult not to cheer when one of the characters makes a magnificent victory. I found myself throwing the book across the room at certain points in the story, screaming obscenities at it as the plight of Ghost and Nothing and Steve ripped apart my insides. Then I was strangely drawn back to it and immediately resumed reading. Upon completion I sat silent for a few moments, unable to do anything but ponder what I had just read. LOST SOULS is the epitomy of true horror. The supernatural characters are not all that supernatural, and still it is incredibly horrifying. Anyone who thinks he/she can stomach it should pick up this book. It is so deliciously terrible you won't be able to put it down.
Rating: Summary: It was a memorable book. Review: This was the first book by Poppy Z. Brite that I read. I enjoyed the plot very much but the ending was rather weak. Ghost and Nothing were extremely well concocted characters
Rating: Summary: Goth, voodoo and a few spontaneous odysseys Review: Follow a little goth-boy named Nothing on his cross-country hitchhiking search (which ends up being brief) for his true, vampire family. Steve and Ghost, the two sole members of the band Lost Souls? stray from home and get involved in voodoo in New Orleans trying to save Steve's ex-girlfriend from the womb-eating vampire baby that grows inside her. The father of this baby just happens to also be Nothing's father, a green eyed beauty called Zillah.... An excellent read; fast paced and gorgeously illustrated with an intricately woven lace of words.
Rating: Summary: The most crazy, yet beautiful vampiric erotica ever created! Review: Brite has a way of writing that makes the reader want to know her characters. Her words suck you into this book-almost convincing you that everything she's writing is true. I practically fell in love with Christian and Zillah. This book made me cry and laugh and want to meet these characters. I highly suggest this book if you want to fall under the spells of love and eroticism. Wormwood is also a wonderful book for those who enjoyed Lost Souls and want to read more of Brite's work.
Rating: Summary: Huge dissapointment Review: This book should be retitled "The Lost Boys on acid go gay porno" The story was moronic and the author's descriptive style so heavy-handed it seemed she wanted to punish readers with every stinking detail. Also, for a "horror" story, it generated NO suspense whatsoever.
