Rating: Summary: grow up. Review: she's got style. i can say that much for her. if you're still studying Cure guitar tablatures in your parents basement, you'll like this book. the pseudo-hipster underground-pop culture refs leave little room for the desired spookiness of ambiance. sometimes desperately eloquent and truthful. obviously immature and lacking the precision tightness of a story that sucks you in, takes you for a ride, and leaves you spread-eagle on the ground...gasping for breath.
Rating: Summary: Influential to every area of my life... Review: ...including my email address! Never before have I read anything so goddamn amazing - I've always liked writing my own stuff, but now I am determined to get something published! And OK, so he wasn't exactly the nicest person (well, vampire) imaginable, but how could they let Zillah die? If you haven't already read it, get a copy of "Exquisite Corpse" - also amazing! And other Poppy fans - please email me!
Rating: Summary: Poppy Z. Brite is the greatest author of this century Review: I read this novel after Drawing Blood (which still remains my favorite book to this day), and at first I compared the two. She's a little repetetive at first with the words she uses, but then it turns into some kind of psychotic poetry. The book flows quickly from the beginning with a vibrant soul and meaning. From the point that Nothing runs away from home, though, it gets a bleakness about life, no paths opening up but one that's even bleaker. At first it made me think that it wasn't very good, but I couldn't put it down. The bleakness is sad and true of life, and finally merges into a tropical paradise of excitement in New Orleans. This book is beautiful, and I actually cried at the end. It's a depiction of sheer humanity that has yet to be beaten. Lost Souls is truly a novel for anyone, even non-horror fans.
Rating: Summary: Finally, abook up to my standards! Review: After first reading this book, I knew I was going to be a die-hard fan. If you like mystery, vampires, and sex, drugs, and rock'n'roll, this book is for you. She is a talented writer.
Rating: Summary: If you have not read the book, dont read what I've writen! Review: My sister and her friend had been raving on about how good this book is, so I had to read it. Two days latter I finished it (wich right now is like an hour ago). It was amazing. I cryed alot at the end, it made me so mad that beautiful green-eyed Zillah died. The way she writes is so, BLAH! Im speechless, dumb founded. It was wonder full and I look forward to reading more of her books! E-mail me if you want to talk about it or her other books.
Rating: Summary: Beautiful Dark Mesmerizing... Review: I was absolutely captivated by Poppy Z. Brite's exquisite narrative... the way she intricately describes things is totally amazing. Her characters are so amazingly real and almost tangible at times. I have falled in love with the beautifully tragic Nothing... *sigh* This was the first of her books I have read and I have passed it around to all of my friends and now I am finishing up DRAWING BLOOD, another fantastic novel. Poppy Z. Brite kicks ass.. she makes Steven King, Clive Barker, even Anne Rice appear like Candyasses next to her horrifying literature, which is very chilling and terrofying at times!!! I luhv it!
Rating: Summary: Lost Souls will remain one of my favourite books for years Review: When I read Lost Souls the FIRST time in the summer of 1995 , I was overwhelmed . Poppy Z. Brite changed my entire view on modern gothic horror fiction , which until that point had seemed rather cliche. Her writing style and narrative is the most inventive and fresh I've seen in years. Her characters are nothing short of beautiful . I keep rereading this book over and over again and still can't get enough.
Rating: Summary: exquisite. thats what it is. Review: This book was so amazing...not enough authors have Poppy's talent to *actually* make you feel like your there. I literally couldn't put it down. I fell in love with Zillah...I wanted to find Christian's Bar...I believe this book does more than make you think. It makes you FEEL. that's the important thing.
Rating: Summary: I have read this book 5 times and it still makes me cry Review: This book with out a doubt is my favorite book. Everytime I read it I am afraid to finish it because I know that it has to end. I wish this book was real. I feel the most touching part of this book is when Nothing kills laine. It is like he is finally leaving everything in his past behind. THe first time I read thins book I did not cry much but every aditional time I cry even harder because I know what is goign to happen, WHile I am reading this book I want to grab a highlighter to pick out my favorite phrases but I can't bring my self to do it I may have to buy another copy!
Rating: Summary: Once again, I bow to the brilliance of Poppy Z. Brite Review: This is hands down one of the best vampire books ever written, possibly of the best books ive ever read. If youre a homophobe, dont read it. It is a refreshing change from the style of Anne Rice. Her style is extremely unique and her imagery is used beautifully. I would recommend this book to anyone and everone, and i have! Everyone i know LOVED it. How could you not? Pure brilliance. Poppy at her best!
