Rating: Summary: This is a first book? Review: It's amazing to me - while not perfect, it is a very engaging story, very rich and well-phrased. She deftly avoids the problem many first-time authors face: a sort of timidity, as if they're apologizing for writing a book, but at the same time it's not arrogant. I was tense at times, confused (delightfully so) at others and actually gave a rat's arse about the main character and even the "bad guy." And it teeters nicely between letting you know what's going on and keeping you in the dark- it reminded me of Unburied by Charles Palliser. And to top it off, it ends well, one of the main problems for writers the world over. The author is a FOAF, and by all accounts (including my own observations) she is a writer and person of integrity, interest and passion, and this translates into the book.I'm eagerly anticipating the works she produces in the lifetime ahead.
Rating: Summary: A Great Start Review: Learning that this was her first published book, I started reading it actually looking for signs that this was a beginner author. I soon became swept up in the story so much that I didn't care who had written it or how many books they had written, I just wanted to find out what happened to Eden, the main character of the book. Like so many of us, Eden discovers that something is different about her family and the mystery surrounding her life becomes her new quest as she tries to find out what secrets lie in the past. This was an excellent story and the author has a remarkable talent. I hope to see more of her works published in the future.
Rating: Summary: WOW! An amazing book! Review: Once I started I could not put it down. Every word in the book has meaning, it leads somewhere that is pointed out on a future page. This book was very compelling and flowed easily from the first page to the last. I can't wait to see what this creative and talented author comes up with next!
Rating: Summary: the most fun i've had reading in a long time Review: The protagonist of Four and Twenty Blackbirds, Eden, is a spirited young lady. Really. The evidence is in her ghostly entourage and the quest they lead her on. Robust characters, strong imagery, and a knack for narrating physical events distinguish Ms. Priest's freshman novel from the kiddie pool of fledgling writers.
Rating: Summary: Cancel Your Appointments Review: This book glues itself to your fingers and won't come off, with a relentless plot that will leave you slumped in a daze, draped over your coffeepot, still turning pages.
Rating: Summary: The Wonderment Review: This book is great - let's leave it at that. Don't want to be spoiling the mystery, suspense and forests, now do we? The short story at the end is great, too.
Rating: Summary: A book that reminds you why you enjoy reading.. Review: This book is simply one of the most pleasing books to read that I've laid my hands on. It works on all levels, its a crime novel, a horror novel, a thriller, suspense. Whichever genre of book that you enjoy there is something to enjoy here - with a fluid and easy writing style that makes you turn the pages - and means you won't put this book down until you're finished. The well developed characters lead you along a twisting and mysterious path, never quite letting you see the end, but letting you glimpse its shadow through the trees. This is the kind of book that wins awards. Three words - Buy This Book.
Rating: Summary: Simply Marvelous! Review: This book was a work of art. I haven't found an author that could sum up words so delectable and so picturesque as Cherie Priest. Her book is a must read. She's captured my imagination and brought it to fulfillment. WOW! This was a superb work of art.
Rating: Summary: Amazing Review: This book was absolutely lovely, completely wonderful, and I hope the beautiful author writes more soon...
Rating: Summary: Great book! Review: This is an excellent book, though I get the sense that Cherie is only beginning to find her voice. She's going to be big, I promise you that! I can't wait to see what she accomplishes in the next few years.
