Rating: Summary: I loved it Review: An excellent book by a gifted writer.
Rating: Summary: sorry Review: but I cannot see what all of the fuss was about, I bought this book based on the glorious reviews and it did not come out shining.
Rating: Summary: FANTASTIC first book! Review: Cherie Priest has written a spectacular first book. The story grabs you in the first chapter and doesn't let up at all. I could not put it down. The flow of the book is immensely appreciated by me, no where does it drag or get slow, and inversely it does not speed through necessary plot developement and character background. Having lived in a few of the places covered in this book made it all the more ingrossing! If you like a good ghost story with plot twists aplenty, READ THIS BOOK! i only have one complaint...i wish it was longer! Will we read more about Eden? I hope so.
Rating: Summary: Awesome new writer! Review: Cherie Priest is a marvelous new writer. Four and Twenty Blackbirds is a riveting story and moves right along, making you stay with it, guessing what happens next. I was terribly impressed by this writer's skills.
Rating: Summary: A great read to have and to give Review: Cherie Priest's 'Four and Twenty Blackbirds' is by far this years best horror/fiction novel. The character development is wonderfully orchestrated as she choreographs the evils lurking in the shadows waiting to jump out at you. A must read. She takes you from the wind beaten mountain paths of Tennessee to the mirky eerie depths of the Florida Everglades on a hunt for an answer to a generations old question. Ms. Priest takes your imagination, sculpts it and displays some of our worst fears in the process. I couldn't put it down.
Rating: Summary: Fast-paced, gripping quest Review: Cherie Priest's first novel is an intensely vivid, surprisingly gripping, first-person quest. We meet her heroine, Eden, as a young girl who, to put it simply, sees ghosts. Over the course of this quick novel, we learn why she sees ghosts, what they're trying to tell her, and what she's got to do about it.The story takes Eden on a journey from her native Chattanooga, TN, south in search of the relatives and relics she's discovered are the keys to the secrets locked inside her. A movie adaptation would be almost unnecessary; Priest is that good at creating a rich, clear mental image in the reader's mind, of the people and settings that make up her world. Nonetheless, I think this novel would make a fantastic movie, and I'll look forward to seeing it reach the screen. (I'd bet the visuals in my head won't be far from whatever a skilled director makes of this tightly woven story.) Very little is obvious from page one, and the fact that Priest manages to incorporate some "Aha!" moments alongside the "well, of course..." revelations she's allowed the reader, makes this a monumentally satisfying read.
Rating: Summary: loved it! Review: excellent read. I couldn't put the book down. great surprise ending
Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: For those looking for a wonderful dark addition to their literary collections, this is the book for you! The flow of visions of this piece of finely written fiction is perhaps one of the best of this past season. I couldn't put it down from the first page until the very last. It was an evening of pure joy as I reached its conclusion. Fine work, Ms. Priest! I look forward to your next book and all that you put forth for us undying fans to enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Incrediable Review: From the minute I picked it up, I couldn't put it down. The imagery is amazing. You see, smell, taste, feel everything Eden does. The story is intriguing just on the synopsis, but once you get inside, you don't want to leave. One of the best books I have ever read. Everyone should read this.
Rating: Summary: a triumph Review: I am perhaps one of the most picky of horror fans. Some authors try to hard to be scary, while others miss the mark completely. This is not the case for Four and Twenty Blackbirds. Miss Priest has added just the right suspense to horror ratio in her novel. Furthermore, the characters are believable containing both substance and depth. I found myself rooting Eden on in her quest to uncover the mystery surrounding her family. It was very easy to get into this novel and quite hard to put down, therefore i give it the highest rating available. Four and Twenty Blackbirds is indeed one of the best ghost stories I've had the pleasure of reading.
