Rating: Summary: The #1 Coolest Book I Ever Read Review: The Tommyknockers is the best book ever. I loved this book because of the thick plot, easy to engross yourself in. This book is not for the weak. Ths book is very scary and time consuming to read, but it's worth it! :):):):):):)
Rating: Summary: yet another one of Stephen Kings masterpieces! Review: This book was amazing and one of the best i've ever read. Obviously Stephen King is not a childrens writer so children probably shouldn't read it. this book really lets reality go and lets you step into your imagination as much as you want it to. the main character is Jim Gardener and Bobby Anderson. One day they are walking through the forest and bobby trips over something in the ground. Bobby gets up and sees what she trips over and it is a piece of metal. When she touches it she hears this music that fills her head with thoughts she never would have thought of. Like ideas and inventions never thought of by the human race. Not yet anyway. after leaving the peice of metal by Jim Gardener's request she go's back to see just what it was. But this time she has a shovel and she will find out once and for all what that peice of metal is and what it means.
Rating: Summary: A page-turner of the highest order Review: I have heard many mixed reviews about this book. A lot ofpeople claim that it is not a good book to start with if you wish tointroduce yourself to King. Many others find the book too long. Others claim that it has nothing to say. First of all, this book was my introduction to King and now I am an avid reader, second, the pages flew by (I read it in six days), third, there was a reason for the 700+ pages. King uses the length of the novel to his advantage by giving all of the inabitants of Haven, Maine personality. By the end of the novel you know all of the characters personally (Ruth McCausland being my favorite). As far as scares go, it is true that this book won't cause the loss of much sleep (there are some good scares, to be sure, but it is not The Shining). This does not matter, however, because the wealth of plot twists, imaginative sequences, and character development make this book impossible to put down.
Rating: Summary: I loved it!!! Review: I'm not really sure as to why there are so many bad reviews in here about The Tommy Knockers! Lately I have been on this Stephen King kick that don't look like it is about to end and I just finished Tommyknockers. I have to say that the book memorized me! The way the whole town was swept up into this corrupt poisoning of what is burried in Bobby Anderson's back yard. I loved the character of Jim Gardner as he had a serious problem of alcoholism, yet was somehow comical. The characters that you were meant to hate, you hated with a passion, and the same with the ones that you loved! I felt that the whole story within the town of Haven resembles our own society with technology going further and further, it seems that we have gone back to the survival of the fittest...or richest, whatever you prefer... I loved this book! So, if you havnt read it, try it! You may just be suprised...
Rating: Summary: Good book, just long. Review: I enjoyed the book. But I'll have to admit that in some parts it just drags on, and on. In other words it goes into too much detail. I really liked the characters in this book also. The book is also a little confusing though. (In my opinion)
Rating: Summary: Not bad, but kind of tiring Review: Normally, Stephen King's extensive detail appeals to me. Ithelps me to orient myself and to clearly picture the story as itunfolds. In many cases, it makes things clear that are not clear merely from understanding the basics of the story. But there is such a thing as too much detail. I can quite understand King's comment in the preface to the book: "This book was not so much written as gutted out." That's the way it feels to read it, too. Although I do love the characters, King's lapses into endless, droning detail about their history and surroundings becomes mind-numbing after while. The truth is, this book is not nearly as frightening as it could be. One senses that upon completion of the story, King breathes a sigh of relief not unlike the reader's... or a hiker who has finally crossed a long, boring stretch of monotonous countryside to arrive home, where he can take off his boots, stretch his feet out in front of him, and devote his attention to other, more interesting things. There are, of course, more good points than bad. The fact that King seems to have edged over into the realm of science fiction for part of the story is one. And his characterizations of Jim Gardener and Ev Hillman as lone seekers of the truth are inspiring. But overall, it's not a good enough story to warrant using up so much paper. The individual stories - Jim's journey to Bobbi, Ev's gradual discovery of the truth, Bobbi's excavation, Jim's alcoholism and his obsession with Seabrook and Chernobyl and Three Mile Island - are interesting in and of themselves, and one supposes that one or all of them could have successfully been made into a story of it's own. But to tie them all together with little green men, mind control, and some sort of bizarre Metamorphosis is pushing the limits of suspension of disbelief. Perhaps it's necessary for a writer to publish a bad book every now and then, if for no other reason than to purge his mind of junk that may be collecting in there. I'm just not sure it's always necessary to publish it, too.
Rating: Summary: DON'T SEE THE MOVIE OR READ THE BOOK. Review: This a very original book, but it just plain sucks. If you awnt good Stephen King you read "Desperation" or "Christine". They just are better books. I just hope it wasn't ment to be scary because it wasn't. It took me a long time to finnish this, because it was so boring. My recomendations are Desperation, Christine, the Shining, or the Dark Tower Books.
