Summary: Don't look down!
Review: This was definetely not Koontz's best. It was quick and to the point, with little character development, and, in some ways, it's a nice change to see a book that gets right down to the chase relatively quickly. The plot is simple: There's a serial killer on the loose dubbed "The Butcher". Graham Harris is a clairvoyent who is helping the police solve the murders. So The Butcher decides that it's time to take out this physcic b*stard that's spoiling all his fun. Graham and his lover are working on the top floor of a skyscraper and The Butcher takes out the security guards, takes the elevator up, and a chase ensues. Eventually, the realize that the only way out is by climbing down the side of the building.

The only problem? It's practically a blizzard outside, they're 42 stories off the ground, and Graham is deathly afraid of heights after falling on a climb and ending up at the hospital.

It's definetely more amateur than his other work, but still a good read. If you think The Face Of Fear is good, wait until you try Intensity! I also recommend Hideaway, The Bad Place, and The Door To December. Those are the only others I've read.

Summary: I dont see what all the hype is about...
Review: Although I am a huge fan of Koontz, this one let me down big time. I see from the other reviewers that it didn't them, but oh well. Can't fit in all the time.

One of my main problems with this novel was the rather silly idea. It kind of smelled like a lifetime movie gone bad. When I read the back of this book to someone, once we reached, “and there’s a blizzard outside, they laughed and said, “Oh, of course.”

The atmosphere was tense, so I can understand why so many compliment the suspense of the novel. I agree, it was there, it was strong. The only thing is it was overdone. Yes, suspense can be overdone. If you have most of the book written in the same mode of tension, never letting up, never giving the reader a breather, after awhile the effect wears off. From the beginning of the novel to the end we have the two protagonists battling the same chances for over a hundred pages. After all this is constantly whirling around, the tension loosens as it just grows tiring.

The characters work well and the pace is not choppy or lagging. Koontzs' style of writing is as captivating at ever.

Overall the tension was great, at first...but then it just gets buried under the stereotypical blizzard snow. Read another Koontz if you want to give him a try - he really is great, but this one was too formulaic and overdone to succeed.

Summary: Another great one from Mr. Koontz
Review: Another amazing, suspenseful piece of work, from #1 Best selling Author, that kept me on the edge of my seat from cover to cover. The Face of Fear by Dean Koontz is nothing short of spectacular, but I suppose this should be expected from Mr. Koontz.

Graham Harris, a former expert mountain climber and clairvoyant, has the fortunate ability to see images of things before they happen. Because of this certain attribute Mr. Harris has been contacted by both police and private individuals to help solve seemingly unsolvable crimes. Unfortunately for Mr. Harris he has gotten himself in too deep this time and now he has become the target of attack by the "Butcher."

The "Butcher" has been terrorizing New York City by brutally murdering young, attractive females. The police are unable to pick up any clues or leads because the "Butcher" is very good at his trade. After much frustration they turn to Graham Harris for some help in this impossible case. Mr. Harris is able to see the next few murders taking place but is unable to help the police any further.

One evening Mr. Harris is on a talk show being harassed by the host, calling his ability a fake and a scam. While being interrogated Mr. Harris has a vision of a young lady being brutally murdered. After realizing how accurate Mr. Harris's visions were the host quickly becomes a believer of his clairvoyant guest.

The "Butcher" realizes that Mr. Harris is on to him; so he only has one choice, kill him and his girlfriend. The "Butcher" traps Mr. Harris and his loved one in an office building late one night. Being the smart person he is the "Butcher" disables all electricity and elevators, thus giving his prey no chance to escape.

Will Mr. Harris and his girlfriend be able to escape the wrath of the terrorizing "Butcher" or will they become his next victims? Will Graham Harris's ability to see what will happen be able to protect himself and his girlfriend? Will the "Butcher" ever be captured or stopped?

Anyone that enjoys Mr. Koontz's previous works will without a doubt enjoy this one as well. If you are looking for a book that you will not be able to put down, this one is right for you.

Reading this book was a great experience other Koontz lovers need to enjoy!

Summary: This book made me look
Review: Being acrophobic myself, this book was appealing to me. I have never climbed a mountain and never would, but I could feel the tension Graham felt trying to overcome his fear of heights to get away from Dwight. I felt like I was hanging from the side of the building myself. The connection between Billy and Dwight was unusual and curious, making me look for Blake and Nietsche. I wanted to know what kind of philosophy they had gleaned from these authors. Dwight's death was strange but Mr. Koontz made up for it with the surprise ending

Summary: Sends chills down your spine
Review: Can a book really send chills down your spine? Well, YES, a Koontz book can!

The Face of Fear is classic Koontz. Just thinking about being trapped up in an office building like that with a psycho killer gives me the creeps. This book will have you rooting for the "good guys" to get away unscathed...but will they?

Summary: An alright book
Review: Dean Koontz's The Face of Fear was an excellent book, but I was disappointed in the ending. Overall the book was great. The novel focused mainly on the police and a clairvoyant named Graham Harris trying to catch a killer named the Butcher. Some of the parts of the book are extremely graphic, so I would not recommend this book for anyone under seventeen or someone who has a weak stomach. The ending, like I said, was disappointing because I expected for something else to happen that was more exciting. I am starting to like Dean Koontz's books and... this is a good buy.

Summary: This is an Awesome Book!
Review: From the moment I picked up this book, I could hardly put it down. I usually don't enjoy reading, but this book kept my complete attention from beginning to end. Koontz was amazing! He added twists to the story in the right places and kept me guesing who the killer was and if the police were ever going to catch him. The way the murder scenes were depicted sent chills down my spine. However it was not graphic enough to sicken me, just enough to add extra suspense.
Koontz also did an awesome job of describing the setting. Everything was so detailed that it made me feel like I was in New York City watching everything happen. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys mystery-suspense novels. I would also recommend it to any person who doesn't normally enjoy reading. I know you'll like it!

Summary: Exciting Page Turner
Review: Graham Harris, ex-mountain climber and publisher of a climbing magazine is having precognitive visions of a psychotic rapist/murderer. Recruited by the NYPD to aide in the capture the psycho finds out and sets his sights on Graham's girlfriend Sarah.

Trapped at his office in a high rise office building with Sarah and all escape routes cut off (gee, why didn't Graham see this) they must do something daring to escape. What else but scale down the side of the building with the climbing equipment which just happens to be in his office (yeah right, Ok So its fiction). Oh, did I mention that due to a climbing accident on Mt. Everest that Graham has a bad leg and an even worse case of Vertigo (fear of heights).

Over looking the faults, this is an above average fast paced book which once into, you will find hard to put down.

I was only able to give this book 4 stars because of the faults I mentioned previously.

If you are offended easily then you may not want to read this. Many of the scenes described in the book are very graphic.

Summary: Towering Non-inferno
Review: Great little thriller. Another race against time and evil. Almost impossible, yet believable escape from a skyscraper. A good triumph of good vs. evil in a thrilling, well-told context.

Summary: mature but well-written
Review: I am thirteen years old, and I read Face of Fear by Dean Koontz this year. I found it, in the end, to be a very suspensful and intiguing book. I must warn though, that this piece of literature is not for the faint-stomached, or the easily offened. It involves discusions and descriptions of very pornographic scenes, and has parts involving the mind of a phychopath and descriptions of murder. However, to get past these details to the story, this book is a quickly read, don't-want-to-put-it-down thriller. It may get a tad boring a chapter or two near the end (descriptions of rock-climbing techniques and equipment), but it makes up for these flaws in a wonderfully told, fast-paced tale of a hero, a villan, and a girl. The story is about a phychic who sees murders take place in his mind, discovers he is being stalked by the killer acting on these murders, and him getting trapped in a skyscraper which he and his girlfriend are forced to rappel down the side of. However, he is paralysed with fear from a climbing accident on Everest years ago... I rate this book with 4/5 stars, because of the minor flaws mentioned earlier. If you are a fan of any other Dean Koontz novels or like modern horror movies like Scream and H20: Halloween, read this book. I hope you enjoy it.
