Rating: Summary: Pet Sematary was a bit corny Review: I listened to the audio version of Pet Sematary on my commute to and from work recently. I enjoyed it for the most part, as there were some dramatic moments and it kept the drive interesting. But in giving it a rating I find I can't give it more than two stars because the underlying Pet Sematary story was so corny and unbelievable that it doesn't deserve anything higher. If I were choosing again and there was a better choice available I would pass on Pet Sematary. Looking back on it, it was enjoyable in a corny sort of way, but a total waste of time.
Rating: Summary: This book gave me nightmares Review: It seriously did! But it was such a good book! The movie, of course, was better. But how come he spelled Cemetary with an 's' instead of with a 'c'? Just curious...
Rating: Summary: A MUST READ Review: This book is one of my all-time favorites, period. It's an EXCELLENT book. It stays with you even after you finish it. It's powerful, amusing, tearful, and of course will make your skin go cold. The Creed's only adorable toddler son horribly dies and the prospect of the soured soil of the MicMac Indian burial grounds beckon. Stephen King's writing style and characters are so exceptional that it's like the promotions years ago for the movie Ghost: YOU WILL BELIEVE. I know some people found the very ending puzzling or disappointing; it's not! The Queen of Spades ... "Hello, darling ..." I love it!
Rating: Summary: The Best S.K. Book Ever Written Review: This book is totally awesome. I really enjoyed it. This was the first book of Stephen King's that I have read. It took me only five days 2 read this book. I could not put it down. I was really in 2 this book. I loved the original storyline. It is very creative. It is also sad when U read about Gage dying but it is really interesting. The chapter that really scared [...] me was Chapter 32. I have enjoyed the movie a whole bunch the book is better. I'm tellin' y'all that I could not put it down. It's a book that is definitley worth setting aside time 2 read.
Rating: Summary: A great, bizarre horror story Review: "Pet Sematary" is one of my favorite Stephen King books simply because of how weird it is. It's the scariest one he's written, along with "'Salem's Lot." This one is about a nice little family who moves out to a rural area in Maine. The father is a doctor, the mother a housewife, and they have two little kids and a cat named Winston Churchill. They go walking with their new neighbor, and discover an animal graveyard in the woods behind their house. But further in the woods, beyond the "Pet Sematary," is an ancient Indidan burial ground which supposedly raises who or whatever is buried there back from the dead, but they come back a bit more evil than they were in their past life. This is one of the best King books because it is very bizarre, but is not for a reader with a weak stomach. If you want a scary, gruesome book with a twisted plot, than this is the one to get.
Rating: Summary: True Horror Review: This is another poltergeist. I like this book because of the audio drama. I also like the horrific and tragic moments which accompany the story. Do You know what a graveyard is? It's the place where the dead speaks. Anyway this book is no less horrific than it is when the dead come back from the dead. This book is one of the best horror books I've found to date. Nothing is more better than Pet Cemitary. The audio drama is nice to listen to! especially if it stars Kate Cap Sha as Dr. Crede's wife. This book is true horror. This is highly recommended to all horror fans.
Rating: Summary: one of my favorite novels Review: I've only recently begun a horror-thriller kick. I used to think I was "above" such writing; Stephen King and Thomas Harris changed my mind. This book is the best horror I've read so far, and is one of my all-time favorite books in general. "Pet Sematary" is, actually, more of a frightening tragedy than a work of true horror; its simple structure and small set of characters recall something like "Frankenstein" where a troubled man tries to tamper with powers beyond his control. The Creed family (Louis, his wife and their two children) move to rural Maine so Louis can take over as hospital administrator at MSU; the family quickly becomes close with the elderly, childless couple next door, the Crandalls. After an exposition that gives subtly drawn insights into the characters, King begins slowly and methodically turning up the heat while deepening our attachment to the characters. We're so involved with Louis, especially through King's superb evocation of his utter grief at the half way point of the book, that we pray that the story won't go where we know that it will. Stephen King is a very gifted writer who has tremendous respect for his characters, who are ordinary people put in extraordinary situations. At the end of the book, King could have gone easy on us, but instead he takes the psychological chills that have grown over the course of the story (Jud's story in the second section, the change in the family cat, Louis's overwhelming grief, his wife's fear of death, etc, etc) and pulls out all the stops to a completely terrifying, tragic end to the story. Just like many great tragedies, Louis's decision brings suffering and heartbreak to all of those close to him, not just to himself. The story is a moving, tragic, terrifying fable for the line that we can't cross.
Rating: Summary: Disappointed Review: I've heard that this is supposed to be a really good book, and was recommended to read it. Upon purchasing the book, and reading that it is supposed to be the best he ever wrote, I started to read the book with minimal expectations. Honestly, I believe Edgar Alan Poe wrote a better story with the "Fall Of The House Of Usher." This was a very disappointing book. Out of 500+ pages, maybe 20 were halfway decent.
Rating: Summary: Pure thrills from the king Review: One of the first books that I read, it absolutely captivated me. It horrifies without becoming very macabre...its also very realistic as the main protagonist wrestles between the love for his child and the horror he knows rests in the cemetary. Its hard to put down .....King has a surefire winner with this one.
Rating: Summary: Excellent, My First King Novel Review: This book is awesome! I could not put it down. It gives a vivid insight to the thinking of it's characters, especially Louis Creed. It does not take long to get into this book. It grabs quickly and does not let go until it's thrilling ending!
