Rating: Summary: More than just horror... Review: This story, like so many of his others, is so much more than a horror story. This book is about grief, an emotion that most adults can relate to at some point in their lives. Anyone who has lost a loved one (and especially anyone who has lost a child), has experienced this feeling in the time period directly after the loss: that you would do ANYTHING to bring that person back. Grief is a very powerful emotion, which Stephen King explores with his usual mastery in this novel. For a story to be successful (to me), there has to be some particular emotion that you feel; it could be happiness, anger, adventure, or whatever. The worst books are those that you feel nothing about. The emotions in this novel are grief and despair, which aren't most people's favorites, but you certainly get your money's worth with Pet Sematary. And because these emotions are invoked, the horror works tremendously. Stephen King seems to know all these things, and this is his writing at its best. I will never forget the images in this story; it's one of those books make you surprised paperbacks still cost under $10.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book. One awesome read! Review: This book was excellent. It started so slow that I thought it was going to be a horrible book, but then as I got further and the action picked up, I realized why it had to start so slow, I could literally picture the whole book in my head. The charecterization and setting descriptions may make the book a bit slower in the begining, but it really helps the book later on. I'm not scared by movies (well, very rarely) but this book REALLY scared me and I couldn't put it down. I don't know, maybe it was because I knew where the book was going, but still hoped it didn't go there. That may not make much sense, but I can't think of a better way to explain it without spoiling the book for you. All I can say is, get the book, read it, and enjoy!
Rating: Summary: My family ate pizza for two days while i read Pet Sematary! Review: I could not put it down - it is one of my favorites - vivid and scarey! Thanks Mr. King!
Rating: Summary: Freaky!!! Review: This was my first King book. I loved it! It's so good 'cus he settles you into a happy sweet family life AND THEN ALL HELL BRAKES LOOSE!!!! I read this and had to keep reading King. Another recomendation, is The Shining. That is REALLY SCARY!
Rating: Summary: The scariest King book in existence. Review: The entire reason that I got started reading books by Stephen King was to see if I could be scared by a book. The first few I read were surely entertaining, but none could deliver the scare that I'd heard King could deliver so well. That was, of course, until I read Pet Semetary. Never before has a book affected me the way that this one has. On the inside cover, the first line asks if King can write a story that even scares himself... Well, he sure scared the heck out of me. Every time the phone rang while I was reading, I jumped so high that I bruised my head on the ceiling. The underlying supernatural feel of the book really gets deep under your skin. The story proves that tampering with the way things are and not accepting God's will surely has detrimental results. The whole sequence about Gage when he's all grown up and graduating and how he becomes a big success sets you up great for the breakdown that Louis is about to go through. King's eerie visions of the undead will haunt you well after you've turned the last page. Highest recommendations.
Rating: Summary: Probably the ulitmate horror story in print Review: In tackling the normally taboo subjects of death and resurrection, Stephen King has created a masterpiece which is certain to strike a chord in everyone. The normal American, Creed family move to Ludlow, Maine to start what they hope to be a normal American life. Louis has a good job, the neighbours are friendly and the children settle in well. And surely there can be no harm in the local children's small pet burial ground behind their new home. Or can there? Brilliantly plotted this is an unmissable read for discerning horror fans. It is, without a doubt my favourite of King's novels and I have read it at least ten times and will no doubt read it at least ten more! If you want a real treat, Pet Sematary is for you!
Rating: Summary: mAKES YOU LOOK AT YOUR PETS IN A DIFFERENT LIGHT. Review: THIS BOOK MADE ME LOOK AT MY ANIMALS IN A DIFFERENT LIGHT. i JUMPED EVERYTIME A CAT MEOWED OR A TRUCK WENT THROUGH MY NEIGHBORHOOD. Rating: Summary: "It's so much better than the movie" Review: I read this book years ago on the advice that it was "so much better than the movie." It was my first "King" book (I had read The Long Walk and the rest of the Bachman Books) and I wasn't disappointed, that is, I expected it to be the mass-market trash that it was. The story is laid out like the author has a generic outline for "book" and simply has to fill in the pieces. The character and place-setting descriptions remind me of when I'm watching a really terrible movie and they throw in some schmaltzy tear-jerking soundtrack to cover the fact that they flubbed the scene. I finished the book just to see how long this tripe could be carried out. By the way - the person who recommended the book was technically right - it was soooo much better than the movie.... :)
Rating: Summary: wow. Review: this is the best SK book i have ever read. it doesn't drag at all, and king's wacked out sense of humor had me actually laughing through most of the book. i have to admit tho, that it is mildly of disapointing in that none of his other works (that i've read at least), even come close to being this good.
Rating: Summary: I still love my cat. Review: My favorite as far as the supernatural goes. I crieds when Gage died and in the end I felt sorry for Ellie. Dr. Creed was the best character I have seen in a while. He's smart but at the same time stupid. He should have known that a deed like that would come with a heavy price and not done it. It is typical of all horror stroies to have one stupid character, I'm just glad that somebody has done something besides the big chesty blonde without a brain in her head.
