Rating: Summary: A great book in so many ways. Review: I decided to read this book after finishing the Dead Zone (also by King). I thought I might be dissapointed in Pet Sematary because in my mind nothing could compare to the Dead Zone--no way. Pet Sematary pulled me in and kept me fascinated until the last page, literally. There is something really frightening about this story. I have to say, I've never really been scared by a movie or book before, but Pet Sematary really creeped me out. It brought alive a place in my mind I would never want to enter in real life. What makes this story so scary (and sad) is the realism with which King writes; If you were in a terrible situation and you could reverse it, would you be willing to withstand the consequences...whatever they may be? There are so many levels to this book. Its powerful, intelligent and full of emotion. I can see why King says he was horrified by what he'd written when he finished Pet Sematary. Go read it!!
Rating: Summary: Scariest King book ever Review: This is the one book Stephen King wrote that he admitted scared even HIM. And I can see why. Giving a person the power over death...but at a terrible price....this is the heart of the book. This reminds us that some things are best left alone, and that playing God is not something to be trifled with. Dr. Louis Creed and his family find this out all too late. It's a great read, but it's disturbing in a way I can't explain. It hits that visceral fear button and hammers on it. If you're a fan of TRUE horror, you need to check this book out.
Rating: Summary: My favourite horror novel... Review: This is my favourite horror novel, by far. In many other novels, you can tell at the beginning what's going to happen. Ever feel like you can point out things like, "He's gonna die"... "Her too"... "He's probably gonna live"? Not with this book. It's a masterpiece that'll keep you up at night. It's believable, unlike some other novels by Steven King like Cristine (I loved this book too, but you can tell it's fictional). It's a book that you have to pay attention to, though, because if you miss the slightest thing, it'll screw up the whole effect of how the ending turns out. There's a lot of foreshadowing, also. Buy this book. A long one indeed, but it'll go by really quickly ;).
Rating: Summary: The King at his Greatest Review: This was probably one of the best books Stephen King has ever written and goes up there with "The Shining". "Pet Sematary" keeps you on the edge of your seat and they did an excellent job on the movie. They didn't ruin it like they do with most of his movies. I would definitely read this book.
Rating: Summary: Pet Semetary Review: Pet Semetary was a pretty good book. It was good for a while but the end was kind of stupid because you had to use your imagination to know what happen,. Besides the ending it was ok. I would suggest this book to someone with a lot of time in their hands. Stephen King is one messed up guy.
Rating: Summary: Pet Semetery Review: I liked this audio book. I thought it was very entertaining. I would sugest this to someone with a lot of time on their hands.
Rating: Summary: Enjoyable read. Similiar to the film. Review: I think most have seen the movie like myself and want to make a comparsion of the film and the book. First I'll say that the story differs very little from the movie and it is only "better" because the story is heightened by King's writing style. In other words, the movie was a pretty faithful adaption. There are slight differences with Jud's wife and of course the resurrected fallen soldier Tim. You get a deeper look into the heads of the characters as you can read their thoughts and not seeing them acted out. That is a difficult transition to bring to the film medium. I will now say something a bit hypocritical. King is a good writer and excellant at coming up with creative concepts, but as the story (like many other of King's works) progresses it gets weaker and usually ends poorly (well in my opinion anyway.) This book is a good example of that trend in his books. The concept is interesting and the characters are easy to identify with. The setting sets us at ease and than pulls us away from it, but there is something to be said about where the story goes after the climax. The fact (even with the influence of the burial ground) that Louis returned to the burial ground with his wife is just stupid in my opinion. I think that with the events in the book, I expected growth out of this character with the constant preaching about acceptance of death. Louis seems to be weak willed and I am disappointed to have him as the protagonist as the book concludes. His grief over the death of Gage warrants the decision he makes. It reflects on his ignorance about what the place does. His final return to the burial ground with his wife wasn't ignorance, but downright stupidity. It's like I lost all respect for him. I was disappointed by the ending as a result, but this is still a fun read and I found myself looking around a bit paranoid from time to time.
Rating: Summary: a dark freight train on speed... Review: Odds are if It's a Stephen King 'cliche', be it the dead pet, knowledgable old neighbor, maine town with a dark secret, flashback to childhood trauma, evil lurking in an 'indian burial ground'(tm), then it's here.. and yet, Pet Semetary transcends all the cliches, becoming the sort of picture of all-encompassing darkness that you can find in the best 'Horror' Fiction. It's genre work that transcends the genre--in a lot of places, it reads like 'lit'rature'..one of those stories where the young family starts a new home, in a new town, and learn about themselves and their neighbors...only this being a Stephen King story, the lessons learned are of the boundary between life and death. In a sense, it's almost too bleak for it's own good---the main characters are good people, and King describes them in ways that let us care about them (right down to the cat, winston churchill, who's first to go)....and for most of the next three-hundred pages, their world methodically comes to pieces. the light at the end of the tunnel in this one is definitely an oncoming train. not for the faint of heart......for those who haven't read it, it's a bestseller that deserves the status.
Rating: Summary: Pet Sematary Review: Pet Sematary by Stephen king is possibly one of the most horrifying books I have ever read, and yes kind did spell cemetery incorrectly on purpose. It starts off when Louis creed and his family, his wife Rachel, daughter Ellie, son gage and cat Winston Churchill, move to a small town called Ludlow in an undisclosed state (although it could have been Massachusetts or Vermont according to my web search) to pursue a job Louis got at the Local College. Things start seeming a little odd when his neighbor mentions a cemetery that is on the land behind Louis's new house. The Dialogue in this book tends to drone on a bit and the characters do tend to laugh at things that I would not consider quite funny enough to do so. King does tend to overemphasize some points, such as the neighbors southern accent. On some good notes he does seem to really portray peoples thought processes quite well and makes you like characters that still do things that would upset most people. Unlike some other Horror novels that I have read king does explain most of what is happening and why, rather than assuming the reader might not care. Also the book builds in tension the longer you read it, to the point where someone suddenly snoring in bed right beside you at 2:00 in the morning when you're still trying to fish the book might make you feel like turning your face inside out in pure horror. Also I would advise to put the book in the freezer upon completion; otherwise the evil things in the book might get you. Overall it is a very good book, especially if you're in for a fright. Hope you enjoy reading it if you do, and umm try not to read it too late at night.
Rating: Summary: WOW!!! Way Better Than The Lousy Film Version Review: This book is SUPER SCARY!!! I could only read half way through! I know... I confess, I'm a wimp. I literally dreaded turning the page and I couldn't get it out of my mind for weeks. Nightmarish to the ultimate degree...I'll finish it some day soon, right after I finish WETBONES by John Shirley. Try [Gerald's Game] another SUPER SCARY! Stephen King novel,(not for people with a nervous condition) it made my hands sweat.
