Rating: Summary: I did not expect this book to be so great!! Review: My book club choose this book for our first meeting. Many members, including myself, were sceptical about reading this book. We were just being wimps. To everyones surprise we all loved this book. I can't explain it but this book is one of the best books I have ever read. The story has so many facets: for one, you experience the axiety felt by the characters while feeling sorry for Dracula at the same time. His is a lonely life but he must take life to live. My book club voted this book our favorite of the year. If you have never read this book you are missing one of the greatest novels of the 19th century and of all time. I wish I could read it again for the first time!!
Rating: Summary: Stoker, Bram:Dracula Review: The story of Dracula will drag you in and will not let you go even if you know you have to iron your dress for tomorrow's conference! Dracula has the power to make one feel disgusted and sorry for him. The book offers unforgetable excitement of a constant tension, fear and relief. It makes you dive into the vampire's thoughts and worries of dealing with the changes of the new society and its evolution.
Rating: Summary: Good stuff! Review: The original chiller of them all, read it
Rating: Summary: A Bloody brilliant book! Review: I thought this was an extremely good book! They say you cannot learn from the unreal and with this book, that is proven wrong! This is not only a thriller but it has gotten me interested in a newer type of book called a classic! I can even speak as this book was written! if you can read this, I suggest you buy the book! it is a wonderful one and it can open a door to another world
Rating: Summary: Bram Stoker's Dracula, the only Dracula! Review: This classic is by far one of the most thrilling of the many books that I have read. From the very beginning, Stoker's Dracula wraps you up in a tight bundle wanting more and more. I honestly could not stand to put the book down. Usually with such an enthralling book, one feels at a loss when finished, but this is not so with Dracula. The book completes itself leaving you feeling fulfilled, rather than wanting more
Rating: Summary: Captive reading. Review: This is a book that holds up incredibly well almost 100 years after it was written. An easy read; I found it hard to put down. A great, scary story full of romance, intrigue, and foreign lands which the author describes so vividly it's easy to visualize
Rating: Summary: Still the greatest vampire story of all Review: Deep and Freudian, full of unconscious images and atmosphere. Shows up Ann Rice for the writer of trash that she is. Unsurpassed
Rating: Summary: Stoker's classic vampire story is still captivating! Review: Those who have seen the recent film treatment of _Dracula_ will be interested to hear that it actually sticks pretty closely to the book. If you are only familiar with the myth of Dracula through movies, I strongly recommend that you read the book that started the Dracula legend. Although some of the language (especially dialect) of the story is outdated, it is surprisingly readable, and not overly afflicted with flowery prose. _Dracula_ is told in the form of diary entries and letters, so the reader gets to see inside the heads of a few different characters. This book is definitely worth reading if you have any curiousity at all about vampires
Rating: Summary: The original tale of Count Dracula. Review: "Dracula" is the novel that started it all. Of course, vampire legends had existed for many years previous to Stoker writing the book, but Stoker's tale of the bloodthirsty Count Dracula and his plan to move to new feeding grounds in London has entered the popular mythos like no other creature except Dr. Frankenstein's monster and the werewolf. No mean feat. The plot is fairly straightforward. Jonathan Harker, a young British attorney, is called to Transylvania by the mysterious Count Dracula to arrange the purchase of a property in London. What Harker doesn't know is that the Count is a vampire and plans to use this new mansion as a home base for feeding on London's hapless population. Harker, along with the help of the trustworthy Dr. Van Helsing, must now hunt down the Count; not only to save London but also to save the life of his wife, Mina. Hollywood has made endless versions of this novel, yet not one lives up to the original, printed version. "Dracula" is a definite must-read.
Rating: Summary: you have to love vampires to appreciate this book Review: As an avid researcher of vampires, I hate that I feel the way I do about Stoker's _Dracula_, the novel responsible for starting the 20th century vampire craze, but I think that this book might well be the most boring vampire novel I have ever read. While I consider _Dracula_ essential reading for anyone who's seriously interested in vampires, I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone else but those select few. For the person studying 19th century literature, there are dozens, even hundreds, of superior pieces to study. And to the casual reader who's just looking for a good classic horror novel, I'd recommend something by H.G. Wells. _Dracula_, with its bland style, unconvincing and flat characters, and slow-paced story, is truly a novel that only a die-hard fan of vampires could love.
