Summary: Not to be read when you're all alone......
Review: Although this book was originally published many years ago it is still one of the most frightening horror stories ever published. Written in diary form it introduces the reader to the young English Lawyer Jonathan Harker, his wife to be Mina, the enigmatic Professor Van Helsing and various other colorful characters that make this story so deliciously scary.
At the heart of the story is the Vampire,Count Dracula of Transylvania who has decided to take residence in England and in doing so seals the fate of several people. One of the Count's first victim's is Mina's best friend Lucy who becomes a Vampire herself and suffers the fate of a stake through the heart and having her head cut off. Soon it is a race against time to stop Dracula getting his fangs into Mina as well, and only the brave Van Helsing and his trusty companions can save the day. Bram Stoker has written a very sexy and scary book for his time, and it is no wonder that Count Dracula's appeal in this form has not diminished over the years.

Summary: A classic that never dies
Review: This is a book that shouldn't be a classic, but there's something about the theme that is so enduring and powerful it refuses to simply curl up and die. Indeed, Vampires continue to be compelling. And it is possible to give them a new and fresh twist. For a modern slant on the story take a look at Simon Clark's Vampyrrhic on the UK arm of Amazon. It's been getting some rave revies.

Summary: Classic for a reason
Review: The classic tale of Dracula is such a classic horror story. I loved it. With it's twists and hills and sharp turns, it kept me hooked until the very end. Although, the beginning is somewhat slow, as well as some parts towards the middle, if you keep reading, you will realize that these parts are important to help you understand the rest. Dracula being an awesome villin, and the other characters being so good hearted, I found it a joy to read. I definately reccomend it. Some of my other favorites are, Subterranean, Carrie, The Shining, and To Kill a Mockingbird(which is nothing like Dracula, but a goodie all the same).

Summary: Dracula's d'MAN!
Review: Hi. I'm 12 and read Dracula, and only came downstairs to Mommy's bed once. I thought it was a thrilling book, so my dad is reading it now. It was fun to read, but a little scary when I read late into the night. Once I heard the wind and thought Dracula was coming through the mist! But then, I'm a rather silly girl. :-)

Summary: Sickening Characters
Review: I decided to read Dracula after having seen the movie. While I was unimpressed with the movie I figured the book must have been too good to make an effective jump to the screen. I was wrong. The movie was actually much better than the novel.

The one thing that really bothered me about this book was the characters. Everyone was constantly praising and lauding each other all of the time. It was as if a group of sports agents had been kept in solitary confinement and were not aloud to kiss up to anybody the whole time. When they were released they had to make up for all that lost time. The result is sickening.

As with any scary story, in order to be truly frightening you must care about what happens to the main characters, both good and bad. Dracula doesn't work because I found myself on Dracula's side. The "good" characters of this book were so horribly annoying that I was rooting for Dracula to defeat them. Do yourself a favor and avoid this literary catastrophe.

Summary: A true classic
Review: I read this book when I was youngish and I guess if I read it now I would understand it better but still, I do recall how much I enjoyed and was scared by it. The scene with the monster in the park stalking Lucy or the one were the female vampires enter Jonathans room are somewhat prominant in my mind. Bram Stoker made a classic when he wrote this and paved the way for horror writers such as Anne Rice or Steven King. Thoroughly enjoyable

Summary: Truly Immortal
Review: Dracula is a book like no other. I first read it when I was just a little kid and thought that this is the kind of literature taht should be read through and through. The writing style is very different and at the same time very catching. Stoker works immaculately to bring in the first person narrative to life in this through a journals-like style of prose. This book has spawned the modern interest of people with vampires and inspired a horde of movies and other books as well. The modern dsay queen of vampires Anne Rice in whole her vampire chronicles fails to capture the magic of that creature created by a syphilitic irishman. Stoker truly created a legend. Many reports speculate that Stoker based his story on facts with regard to the existence of Dracula. Vlad Tepesh or Vlad the IMpaler was the ruler of Walachia in the middle ages and is still a legend in Romania till this day. His ruthlessness against the Turks brought much fear in the hearts of men. Vlad was the kind of guy who would feast in front of a thousand people being impaled in front of him. The other part was the fact that Stoker was said to have witnessed a psychiatric case in which a person was demented in that he had to drink blood to relinquish himself from pains he was feeling. A number of peoplehave pointed that vampirism is truly a disease, a form of a disorder called porphyria in which treatment includes the injection of fresh hemoglobin into the patient. Incidentally those patients are sensitive to light, which is true to Stoker's version of events. In any case, Dracula is among the best tightly packed book out there, with the best perspective and excellent prose. Stoker truly does succeed in taking the writer to the land of horror and simply created the most immortal legend of all. Bram Stoker's Dracula, the movie directed by Francis Ford Coppolla holds true to the book for those who haven't got the time to sink their teeth into an amazing book as this.

Summary: A classic which all others will be judged
Review: The essential vampire book to which all other efforts pale (no pun intended). This is one of the greatest horror stories ever written. Stoker weaves the masterful plot with rich ethnic folklore and settings of rich cultural heritage. This timeless classic will live forever.

Summary: A great book!
Review: Though I am a high school student (like most of the people who wrote really bad and thoughtless reviews of the novel), I have to say I really enjoyed reading Dracula. Not only was the plot magnificent, the language used in the book is fabulous! The reason some people couldn't understand Bram Stoker's diction is probably because they were too busy watching Dawson's Creek while reading the book. Actually, the book is very easy to understand and follow. It is also extremely interesting and entertaining; I really hated having to put it down to sleep or eat! However, I must say that I was a little disappointed by the ending, which was just too simple. After building up the story so carefully and perfectly, the resolution certainly could have been worked out a little better. But over all, I think Dracula is one of the best books I ever read.

Summary: A high school students who enjoys this book!
Review: You know, I'm not one of those people who constantly has their nose in a book, and I'm not gothic either, but I loved this book. I think it's a classic and I wish my english teacher would make us read Dracula. For the other high school students who submitted thier reviews on this book, who claimed the sentances made no sence and it was too long, here's a thought...go rent a brain! Or atleast come up with a some what intellegent excuse for not liking this book. Try obtaining a better vocabulary, and then maybe the sentances would of actually clicked in your heads and you would of enjoyed the story. Anyway, I'd recommend this book to anyone with an open mind and a reading level higher than the fourth grade.
