Rating: Summary: Exquisitely Beautiful Review: This is the first book of Brite's I have ever read, and it's sure to not be the last. I was sucked in so swiftly and surely, which is rare for me these days. Her descriptions are so vivid I felt like I was viewing the actions depicted. While not for the faint of heart or close-minded, this is a book I will recommend to all my friends.
Rating: Summary: Definatly not her best Review: This definatly is not the best thing I have ever read by poppy z brite but if you are looking for an interesting read i would definatly pick it up.
Rating: Summary: Brilliant Review: I was given this book by a friend who thought that i would enjoy reading her work. I thought that well it is a Poppy Z. Brite book... known to be (in my area) a steriotypical Goth novel, However i thought that i would give it a try. To tell you the truth i really enjoyed it. She went into a lot of wonderful details. However if you dont like all the horrid details. I do think that i will read more of her things in the future. I finished reading this in a matter of hours. Wonderful.
Rating: Summary: Vivid Review: I've read a couple of her other works and I must say that this one is the most VIVID of all of them. In fact, it's probably the most vivid book I've read so far. Several times I had to put it down because it was so disturbing but at the same time so engrossing. Her characters and scenes are so real that I feel like I'm watching it on a screen. This book is not for everyone.
Rating: Summary: It's not that I don't like blood.... Review: I have never read any Poppy Z. Brite before, and was extremely disappointed in this. I just had this vision in my head of some goth girl sitting on her bed under her dyed-black mosquito net and thinking.."Oh, yeah, that's good..I'll make them gay, yeah, and I'll throw some club kids in,and some sharp knives, and while I'm at it, why don't I just mention a lot of really cool goth bands..." I think Poppy Z. Brite read "Interview with the Vampire" and then Caleb Carr's "The Alienist" and simply morphed the two ideas into this practically unreadable dross.
Rating: Summary: Not as good as her other stuff... Review: Poppy really goes over the top here, trying to cram as much stomach-churning gore as possible, at the expense of developed characters. This book was entertaining but light; I read it in three days and never picked it up again. Brite novices, start with Lost Souls, her short stories, or her best work, Drawing Blood. This book just didn't do her justice.
Rating: Summary: Gross and Intertaining Review: The few things I've read by this author in the past have not impressed me -- more splatterpunk than anything else. I was browsing through the mystery section at the book store and stumbled across this (obviously this book was in the wrong place). The back made is sound good, so I decided to read a few pages -- I was hooked! One of the serial killers describes a young man he picked up who had a tatoo across his neck that said "Cut Here" so the serial killer merely had to follow the directions! (this is on the 2nd page!)The book is extremely gory -- for those of you who have a weak stomach you might want to pass on this one. AIDS is a theme throughout the book. I found myself thinking how true some of her points were about the amount of research being done to find a cure and the extremes some people might feel like going to so that a cure could be focused on. This is the best book I have read by this author -- and ranked in my top books I have read. This book is a must read for anyone who is into horror -- but it might spoil you for others...
Rating: Summary: darkly beautiful Review: This was one of the most eerily beautiful books I've ever read. Brite knows her strong points and she uses them well. It might not please everyone, but it certainly pleased me. The characters were wonderful (especially Tran) and of all of her novels, this would be the one I would enjoy seeing made into a film. Even if the book is always better than the movie.
Rating: Summary: once i started, i couldn't put it down!! Review: i was disturbed, excited, and entranced with the story.. i finished this book in a weekend!!
Rating: Summary: Brite continues to titillate her readers. Review: This third novel was all and more of what I expected from Poppy Z. Brite. The crued details and sensual story lines keep me excited of works to come. Exquisite Corpse proves that Brite is only maturing as a writer. I look forward to new novels from this amazing auther.
