Rating: Summary: It was the first and best book I read by Dean Koontz Review: When I began reading this book, I hated to read. My sister convinced me that this book would capture my mind as the inhabitants of it struggled through their days leading them inevitably to the Tranquility. Each cahracters was one you got to know and understand. Each character was one you grew onto and cared for. Even minor character like Parker Faine and Father Wycasik (surprised to remember them, I ready this 5 years ago) grew onto you. I was up to four in the morning reading this book out of fear of having nightmares, and fear of what would happen next to the victims in this book. Of all the Koontz books and books I have read in my life, this is No. 1. Phantoms ranks right up there, but the suspense was different. No one knew the truth in Strangers until the last twenty pages or even less. It was fast-paced and a fantastic book. Everyone should read this book.
Rating: Summary: A great read Review: This was my second Koontz book to read, and this is the one that got me hooked (sorry, but Whispers was too weird, & though the first, I didn't realize until later it was written by the same author). Koontz has a way of writing that draws you right into the story. This one is about 5 different characters, with 5 different stories. Each story is compelling, but not until the very end of the story do you see the connection between all five. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Koontz is one of the few authors that I will take off the rack as soon as it comes out, without reading the story summary. Only two books I didn't like: Whispers-weird, and Phantom-too evil. I have loved every other book of his. For those of you who enjoyed this one, try Watchers & Lighting &... They're all good. This story, Stangers, ranks among the best.
Rating: Summary: This is a definite page-turner, except... Review: Out of all Dean Koontz's books (and I have read them all, I think), I had the most mixed feelings about this one. The story's great, the plot's great, and the the characters are...great, except for Ginger Weiss. She was nauseating. So nauseating, in fact, that I could only take her in small doses(which is why it took me a MONTH to read the whole book; pretty bad, huh?). Anyway, she's the only reason I didn't give this book a 10, otherwise, it's an awesome read!
Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: This along with "The Key To Midnight" is what made me a Koontz fan. Though predictable to anyone with an open mind, it was still very entertaining and scary. All I can say is read it and become a fan.
Rating: Summary: One of his best ! Review: Dean Koontz has always been one of my favourite authors. After reading Lightning I thought that I would never find another one that could compare with it - then I found Strangers. Though the thickness of the book was a bit forboding, I found that I could barely bring myself to put it down. Only Dean Koontz can contrive such an intricate plot and get away with it. For once I was glad that I had found a great suspense boom that would not leave me with recurring nightmares because the ending is so PERFECT and makes up for all the scares at the front. A MUST read !
Rating: Summary: An outstanding tale of mystery and wonder... Review: Hands down, this is Koontz's best work. He weaves a story that always seems to come *this* close to telling you what happened, only to yank it away from you. In fact, this is the only time I've wanted to hunt down an author and smack him...at one point in the story, a character remembers what happened, and as I was thrilled to finally find out...well, let's just say that I didn't.
If only they would make a TV miniseries out of this one....
Rating: Summary: This was one of the best books I have read in a while. Review: I couldn't put this one down. The amazing way Koontz tied the lives of all the the Tranquility victims together and the superb way in which he brought out the insanity of Falkirk. The ending was a great surprise!!!! This is a must read until the end book. I recommend that everybody read this one.
Rating: Summary: "Strangers" is Koontz' best work Review: Like any good mystery, this book made me say to myself at the turn of every page "What the *hell* is going on?" Dom and Ginger, Ernie and the good Father have recurring nightmares and fugues, frights and miricles that gradually lead them to believe that someone--or something--has been messing with their brains. It's a page-turner to find out what it is, and the action keeps going right up to the end. You know, Koontz is very appealing because he understands that readers love stories about people who are healing, improving, or coming to understand. He manages to bring that spirit out in all his characters and combine it with great action, plot, timing, and antagonists.
Rating: Summary: Dom leads Koontz's mystifying story... Review: I am a big sports fan, and Dicky Vitale is the man. When Vitale says, "From way downtown!" or "He's unconscience, baby!" I think of Dean Koontz's book titled, Strangers. With the mystery of who screwed up thier brains, Dom and the rest of the gang battle the lock that was inserted inside thier heads from an unknown cause. As they fight the barriers, they slowly recall the incidents of the night it happened. Now, I don't want to give away the full scoop of this story because it is a must read MYSTERY, and mysteries are for the reader to find out on thier own, so I just tell you the basics. Dom Corvasis is a man who has sleeping troubles called insomnia, but he cannot figure out why. Some of his adult pals have other terrible problems such as being afraid of the dark, being attacked by unknown enemies, and having hullucinations Is this something they did to themselves with drugs, did someone punch them to hard, or are they just really weird people? Well, I am not going to tell you the story,
Rating: Summary: Rich and complex, yet fast-paced mystery/thriller. Review: Strangers is one of Koontz's best. The story is complex, yet has the enjoyable quick pace typical of a Koontz thriller. There are a dozen MAIN characters (and many secondary characters as well) yet each is fully developed and given a powerful protagonist role--a very unusual set of circumstances, but Koontz pulls it off brialiantly. The plot twists and turns as the lives of these seemingly unrelated people begin to sprial out of control. As a result, each in his or her own way is subconsciously led back to a time and place where all of them have in fact crossed paths before. There are twists and surprises right up to the end, including some that reverse assumptions you may have held from the beginning.
