Rating: Summary: Very well crafted Review: Strangers is one of Koontz' most ambitious (and longest) works, with multiple plot lines very skillfully integrated. More science fiction than horror, but very absorbing.
Rating: Summary: above average Review: This is a good book, it also happens to be my first Koontz. It is well written in Koontz' customary style. The problems I have with it is that it is too long, 4/5ths would've been more than enough. 2ndly, following the simply awesome first half, I figured out the rest and also didn't feel it was on par with the first half (sort of like the new Mercedes E-class). Regardless, it's a good read if only for the first half - I found myself laughing out loud at times. The first half gets 5 stars from me. It could also have been made into a movie that would better many and most movies on this subject that are out there.
Rating: Summary: STRANGERS twistingly misleading and suspense filled. Review: My very favorite novel of koontz its so good that, I finished it in three days .You feel like your a part of the little group in the hotel,it is a great read that you keep on wondering what the ending will bring.
Rating: Summary: Kept me reading Review: After reading it a couple of years ago, I picked it up again to keep me company on my morning metro ride. It was just as good the second time around and definitely kept me interested.
Rating: Summary: One of Koontz's best! Review: I've read almost all the Koontz books, and this was one of the best. It would appeal to people who normally do not read books in the horror genre, as well as Koontz's ardent fans. The characterization is outstanding and the plot is intricate. I thoroughly enjoyed every page!
Rating: Summary: TOTALLY CAPTIVATING!!! TWO THUMBS WAY UP!!! Review: this book was one of the first fiction-thriller books i read and it is my favorite. it does not take 300 pages for the action to start. it kept me on the edge of my seat and once i started reading it i could not stop. i definitely suugest this book and author to anyone who likes fiction but also to people who wish to get initiated to this kind of litterature.
Rating: Summary: SPECTACULAR!!!!! Review: This was the first Dean Koontz book I read and because of it I know have all of his books. When he first starts out with so many characters it is a little hard to follow, but(as he always does) Koontz comes up with a magnificent way of tieing it all together and having it all make sense. This is a definite read for anyone who calls themselves Dean Koontz fans!
Rating: Summary: Just one word-awesome! Review: One of the scariest, most exhilerating novels I've ever read-I kid you not. This book truly scared the hell out of me a few times. The characters are so different, its's amazing to see when a moment from each of their pasts links them all together, in the same place at the same time. Though the main villain of the novel doesn't show up until about halfway through and doesn't have a really big part, he was one of the worst I've see for a while, and I mean that in a good way. Koontz creates villains that fascinate you (Vess from Intensity) and villains you really hate (Roy Miro, from Dark Rivers of the Heart) and villains that are just scarey, nothing else (the monster, Ticktock). All in all, incredible novel. Don't be put off by the huge page number, I promise you'll hardly notice.
Rating: Summary: Not too bad, but it has some problems Review: OK, I have to admit, the plot of "Strangers" definitely intrigued me. And for a while, it was a pretty good book. However, there are some major problems. First, it lasted too long. While I normally prefer longer novels, this one could and should hav ended about 2/3 of the way through. Instead, Koontz tried to keep us on the point of a climax, which got boring before long. Also, although I like fantasy almost as much as I like science fiction, this book left WAY too much unexplained...not in a good way, to let you draw your own conclusions, either. They tried to explain all the various elements with science, then with religion, and the attempts were not only contradicting but also unsatisfying. Finally, there's the utter lack of originality in the book's conclusion. It's the same story ... that you've heard over and over. Yet, you'll notice that I gave it three stars. Why? Well, despite it's flaws, "Strangers" has a greatly intriuging beginning and steadily rising action. Also, the ending (though predictable) is fairly suspenseful. The bottom line is, although this novel is not up to Koontz's standards, it's still an OK book.
Rating: Summary: Superb! Review: All in all, this was an awsome read. The way the author weaves in all the plot elements and ties everyone's lives together is simply astounding. In the shadow of this huge mystery, I just couldn't put the book down. It gets annoying sometimes, seeing as you repeatedly get very close to knowing what is going on, and then are denied, but more toward the end of the book I guessed what it was and got it right, which I think was part of the author's intention. Really, that makes it all the more exciting. The switching between charactors gets faintly annoying after a while, and sort of hard to keep up with, but toward the end, once you get used to it, it's not so bad. The only problem anyone might have with this book is that it does a lot of genre changing. If you simply want to sit down and read a horror story, don't pick this one. It's constantly fluctuating between horror, mystery, shoot-'em-up action, and sci-fi. Although, personally, I thought it added to the e! ! ffect. Koontz's best work to date. Easily.
