Rating: Summary: Scary in the tradition of "Misery" and "Gerald's Game" Review: Revenge is sweeter when it's helped by the supernatural-courtesy of our favorite boogey man, Stephen King. The monster in this story is not a vampire or a ghost, but an abusive, obsessed husband, one of the creepiest monsters around. Rose Daniels husband will go to EXTREME lengths to retrieve his wayward wife, including vicious assaults and cannabalistic murder. Gross! Luckily little Rose has some brains and some very helpful friends. Wife-beaters beware; Rose Madder will make you see the error of your ways
Rating: Summary: He has written worse. . . Review: Extra points for the use of a woman protagonist this time, and he can still keep you turning pages, but I found it rather tiresome and typical of the last few King novels. For a welcome reprieve, read the "Green Mile" series - now that is the Stephen King we have missed
Rating: Summary: Stephen King has done it again! Review: I don't think I have ever read anything quite as fast as I have
with ROSE MADDER. I simply could not put it down! Though it
deals with a tragic subject of wife/spousal abuse, I was glued
to the story from the very beginning. You cheer Rosie on as
she goes where she has not gone before. The places that we
women go everyday of our lives, that we take for granted. Like
being able to visit a friend or invite a friend over and not
worry about what type of punishment you will receive later on.
The suspense of her journey as she dares to leave her husband
for a better life. His journey to find the timid wife he thought
he had, and his plan of action every step of the way. The time
portal journey she finds is truly exciting. Though the conclusion
maybe predictable, you still cheer her on. After all, someone
always gets it in the end if Stephen King is writing it!
Rating: Summary: Mad and Madder Review: Rose Madder by Stephen King is a story about an abused wife,
the protagonist, who awakens to the world around her. King
aroused my sympathies for Rose, yet portrayed her and her
surroundings in a realistic manner. I got involved immediately and sat on the edge of my seat as he switched between
scenes of Rose running toward a new life and her abusive, police officer, husband chasing her with mayhem in mind.
This is the ultimate page-turner!
Rating: Summary: Mr. King, you've restored my faith in you! Review: I had slowly turned away from his works for a time & now Rose Madder has restored me back as a fan. It was the combining of a mystic-fantasy and the human failings in life into a story that I could not put down until the end. I was
sad because as in every book you need an ending, yet,
I wanted more and went back over the pages to try to re-
capture not only the excitement but the agony as well. Out
of all human cruelties, emotional and physical abuse is the
worse and the light of hope is always welcome. Mr. King uses this hope as an enigma that will strike your heart and senses
Rating: Summary: Rose Madder - A gripping horror story that rings true Review: As a long time fan of Stephen King's classic horror novels,
I was a little skeptical about Rose Madder. But, like any
true Stephen King fan, I was determined to read it anyway. I
quickly learned my lesson. From the very first chapter, Rose Madder sucks you into the story head-first, and doesn't let up
until the bitter end. This story doesn't have the customary slow passages "in the middle" that many contemporary horror tales have. Rather, this whirlwind whips you into first feeling sorry for, and then rooting for the main character, Rose Daniels. Rose is a long-time battered wife who snaps out of her abuse-induced trance at the site of a drop of her own blood. Her slow realization enables her to take the right step and get out of her dangerous marriage. Unfortunately, Rose's husband, Norman, is a cop. A
good one. And he has the means and the know-how to track down Rosie. I would highly recommend this book to die-hard Stephen King fans, as well as skeptics that think that King's work is all gore, and no heart.
Rating: Summary: I heard every word King said Review: On a trip to Disney World, family and I listened to Blair Brown and Stephen King transform this story of an abused wife into reality. The story extends the ideas in both Delores Clairborne and Gerald's Game but has just the right amount of mystic/mythic elements ts to make it fall into the old King genre. I often wonder what King's life growing up was like as a result of some of the troubled people in his novels. It frequently seems like he is attempting to get rid of his demons in his stories of abuse. Using Stephen King as the husband was brilliant. There have been few meaner monster's in my recent reading
Rating: Summary: Not the usual King, with a heroine that makes you care. Review: This continues Stephen King's 'new' writing style, with a
strong heroine, less horror, and more suspense. I for one
enjoy it. This book goes far beyond "Gerald's Game", it actually shows you the terror a beaten wife on the run feels
when she is first learning her way around the cruel world.
This heroine finds help, but her crazed cop-husband is determined to hunt her down. I read this book from cover
to cover in one evening, and I think you might, too.
Rating: Summary: thumbs down! Review: I am amazed at the positive reception this book has
received! Since "The Tommyknockers" King's writing seems
to me to have gone steadily downhill - and sadly this
book keeps up the trend. Cliched, predictable with
two-dimensional characters, the "supernatural" part is
tagged on clumsily - perhaps had this been a straight-foward
novel about a battered wife it would have been better? It
doesn't even have the Stephen King "feel" that earlier
novels had in abundance. A BIG disappointment!
Rating: Summary: Excellent non-horror Stephen King book Review: Rose Madder is the story of an abused woman, and when told
by Stephen King, it actually becomes more horrifying than
some of his traditional horror stories. Highly recommended.
