Summary: A fatal end to an excititing game.....
Review: Stephen King?? Who??? Tried buying one- "THINNER" and got hooked. Followed by "Needful things" and so on, until - ROSE MADDER appears. This is the worst novel of the century. Thank God a new century is arriving and a new King will be crowned in the "Worst" category.Hope it's not Stephen King again. Reading King's novel is enticing - leads you to the next and so on. Just like a great game, in my case.early death!! Those who have played "DOOM" know what I mean.... For the rest of you...stay away or try it out - only then will you realise what the word "HORRIBLE" was created for. :-(( The problem with Rose Madder, I think - King is racing with time to churn out as many titles as possible - It is like a bad dream - not enough interaction with characters. Just like when you have a busy day and dream garbage. Anyway, one poor novel by King should not discredit the others - there are plenty of jewels lying out there.....

Summary: "Sleeping With the Enemy" - without Julia Roberts
Review: If you have seen the movie "Sleeping with the Enemy", it is hard not to feel like you are reading the screenplay for the first half of the book: of course you know the abusive husband will eventually find our heroine, who has fled New England by bus to hide in the Midwest, and the only real suspense is what will happen after he finally does. The parts inside the painting get ridiculously drawn-out and sybmolic. In this respect, it is a lot like Insomnia, stepping too far out of the believable scenario he starts with, and into religious/mythological fantasy worlds. Not a bad book overall, but as usual with his recent novels, a disappointing finish after a strong start

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Very imaginative
Review: This book had the strongest characters in any other book I read. I didn't care for the actual story, though. The idea of going inside a painting is a bit upidstay. It had a great ending. Very suspenceful

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A perfect 10!
Review: Rose Madder is one my favorite stories. The action and suspense never end. The story is about the wife (Rose Daniels) of an abusive cop (Norman Daniels) who runs away from her husband. It takes her a while to adjust to her new life, but soon she has her own apartment, a steady job, and a great boyfriend. Her new life is a dream but little does she know that her old life is coming back to get her. You see, Norman Daniels is a cop. His job is to find people, but he is also an instinctively ravenous animal and he's coming for Rose. The characters are very solid and Norman Daniels is SCARY! There are so many twists to the story so you can never guess what is going to be around the corner. Even though I'm just a 14-year-old Hoosier and have not yet read all his books but, I still give it a 10! Buy it now

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Not bad material, but clearly not up to Mr. King's standards
Review: Like many readers of Stephen's novels, I am disappointed he has taken an opportunists' approach to writing about 'social causes' for the sake of expanding his financial worth. I would rather he complete unfinished works than focus on these dime a dozen diatribes that I would classify with romance novels

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: One of King's best novels
Review: Stephen King has a way of capturing the reader's attention and keeping it there. Rose Madder is no exception. The pictures he paints with words are astounding. It's like you step into the book and experience it first hand. King just knows what the readers want and gives it to them. Bravo

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Rose Madder's to die for.
Review: After years of living with an abusive husband, Rose Madder, an ordinary woman living in a less than ordinary situation, takes off. This gem of a book takes you through Rose's flight, reinvention of herself, and her final battle against the darkness which has held her back for years. This truly joins the ranks of King's best. The best part is........ well, wouldn't you like to know

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: The "Madder" Rose became, the "Madder" I became for her!
Review: Rose Madder is one of Stephen King's best. I felt as if I were there feeling the pain, the sense of looking over your shoulder, the fear and everything else that went along with Rosie's feelings. Rose Madder certainly became the person she dreamed that she could never be. Every step of the way you felt as if you were right there with her. I have never been so compelled to keep on reading as I had been with Rose Madder. It was a suspenseful book from page 1. Rose Madder certainly kept my attention and my deep hatred for her husband, Norman. I now have 3 other people reading the book. A masterpiece of suspense

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: I expected better than this from Mr. King.
Review: I managed to drag through this book in 4 days. Rose Madder lacks any hint of suspense. It spends too much time "inside" the painting. There is too much detail in some parts, and not enough in other places. If this was another author, the book might have a 5 or 6, but this is the renowned Steven King, who has been too streaky when writing over the past couple of years

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Certainly a page turner!
Review: I have a confession. I've never much paid attention to Steven King. Yeah, sure I read Christine back when I was well, younger, and who doesn't know Carrie? For someone that seems to write novels more often than I change my socks, this one is bang on! It's the story of Rose, the long-suffering wife of an abusive husband/police officer. One day she decides to chuck it all and escape from her husband. She flees to a town far away and starts a new life there, but is haunted by the knowledge that her husband is well equipped to locate her. I read the entire book in one day, but to be honest, it only gets a 7 out of me because I felt that he copped out in the end. For a subject that for too many women, is very real, I felt that a more realistic finish to the story would have had much more impact. I found myself skipping pages because I simply didn't care anymore. If you like King, you'll probably really enjoy this book.
