Rating: Summary: Connections... Review: Most people who read this book and give 1 star ratings fail to miss the underlying meaning of this book, as other books of king. If any of you have ever read the Dark Tower series you would notice the connection with the painting and Roland's (the protagonist) world. And you would know who rose madder really is, why the child had to be rescued despite the risks, what the painting represents (see Insomnia), and a whole lot of other things. And the importance of the bull most of all.
Rating: Summary: well... Review: well rose madder in my opinion was an interesting book, like most books, you have to read a few pages to get in the flow of the events, in stephen's book he is basically takling about most women who go through stuff like that, the whole thing about the painting, i thought was pretty cool, you have to understand every writter has a style and this is stephen's if the story doesn't get all twisted it's just not interesting anymore and to all those people who are putting stephen and this book down...i would love to see you do a better job.
Rating: Summary: The Best Book I ever Read ! Review: I read this book in three days thats how exciting it was and its about 500 Pages long!!! I Couldn't put it down. This book really puts you into the life of Rose. You feel apart of her life. Its mysterious, romantic, and scary. If I had to recommend any book this would be the one!
Rating: Summary: I loved it! Review: I've bought almost every book written by Stephen King and this one is among the best.I couldn't put it down!
Rating: Summary: TYPICAL of KING Review: He never fails to dissapoint me. (with the exception of Delores Claiborne)As usual, he reels you in with an intense, easy to read storyline and then lets you die a slow, agonizing death through the last 1/3 of the book. Too sci-fi with the painting. The most horrifying aspects of any of King's novels have been characters/events that can actually exist - THAT is horror. Not some boogeyman/bull in an animated oil painting. He should learn to leave well enough alone instead of going off on a (bizarre) tangent every time.
Rating: Summary: An easy read, but totally lacking in depth Review: Oh come on! I admit it, I bought the book because it said "international best-seller" on the front cover, because of the mainly rave reviews at this internet site and also because I'd just finished The Green Mile by the same Author which was quite good. I now realize that the vast majority of book reviews at this site are by people who genuinely like a book they've read, however, those that don't like the same book can hardly be expected to waste time writing about it! In any case, Rose Madder is an easy read - its easy not to want to put it down because you don't have to think or work your brain around tricky concepts or plays on words. This is mush fiction literature for the TV generation that want to sit in a sofa and be entertained. No interesting plot, no unexpected twists, a story as predictable as a one horse race and a fantasy element (a spooky painting) which is ridiculously out of place. Even worse, King's depiction of a love affair is as awkward as a spotty 14 year old kid trying to get a first kiss. Almost an embarrassment. However, King has reached that throne of ultimate respect as an author, which allows his occasional shoddiness and blunderings to be seen by the general public as "daring genius" or "bold and electrifying suspense". Was it a good read? Well, nearly 600 pages is quite an achievement considering the whole book could be condensed into a short story, but on the whole, a one star rating is justified. Its rather like when you go to a party and you meet someone who talks and talks, its difficult to get away, but when you do, you realize that most of what you have endured is hot air, which is a pity because what little depth there is gets swamped by pointless drivel.
Rating: Summary: Skip it Review: Rose Madder is by far Stephen King's worst book
Rating: Summary: This book must be read! Review: I couldn't put this book down.Turning page after page, all night. Finally at dawn when the last page was read I was so sad that it was over. This is my first Steven King book. I can't wait to read more of his work.
Rating: Summary: Space-Cadet Battered Housewife Runs Away To Live In Painting Review: If you are asking huh? that will give you a feel for what reading this endless saga of one empty-headed gal's escape from her caricatured battering husband feels like. For like 100 pages, this girl tramps about through a painting in the most obtuse symbolism I've ever encountered. Huh?
Rating: Summary: A tale of one womans fight against abuse with an edge. Review: Stephen King has outdone himself with this tale. Domestic violence has never been so interesting. He tells the story of a beaten woman afraid to leave until she spots a drop of blood, who after leaving has to hide from a twisted cop. Sounds normal until you find dead crickets in a painting. This book is wonderfully imaginative and one you will always remember and recomend to friends.
