Rating: Summary: GREAT PAGE-TURNER!!! Review: Firestarter is classic King: original, scary, thoughtful and totally engaging. The great thing about King is the way he creates characters that just jump off the page. You can see them so clearly: Charlie's bear-ish father, Juice; the psychotic Shop agent, Dr. Wanless. And most of all John Rainbird. I think he may be King's greatest (human) villain. Totally monstrous and yet somehow magnetic. Many of this book's strengths lie in the little details and tangents King throws in: Wanless's habit of shredding his cigarettes, Rainbird's horrific experiences in Vietnam with his peyote chewing commanding officer. What can one say? Great imagination. Great book. although, as usual with King, don't read it if you have a weak stomach or are easily upset by descriptions of violence. Some of the book is quite disturbing.
Rating: Summary: Too bad I didnt take this one home... Review: OH MY GOD! WHAT IMAGINATION!This is probably one of the most insightful books I have ever read. Emotional and powerful, King made me belive in the immense power of the human brain. The fact that each use of their psi powers caused them hurt and grief made the characters more real, and allowed the book to mirror real life. The way it's told made me feel like it actually happened and thats always a plus. King is a genuis with talent in the style of Tim Burton for filmaking and Danny Elfman for composing. These three teaming up on a project would be a match made in heaven!
Rating: Summary: Very emotional Review: 'Firestarter' is a great triumph for Stephen King. I felt so sorry for Charlie through out the entire book, and John Rainbird has got to be one of King's best villians.
Rating: Summary: Perhaps the best of King's "lesser" works... Review: ...and John Rainbird is the best King villian other than Randy Flagg
Rating: Summary: Like fine wine: addictive Review: I've read almost all of King's books and this one kept being on the "I just can't seem to find" list, until recently. I enjoyed it very much 'cos it's classic King: fast, filled with suspense and a bombastic climax. I was surprised to find some very touching stuff in "Firestarter", like the relationship between Andy and Charlie, but most of all Andy's feelings towards his dead wife; it's very heartbreaking and in some ways better than quite a lot of pages in "Bag Of Bones". Knowing well enough about the continuity in all King's novels I can only wonder if there's information about what happened with Charlie in any of them... Like when we found out that Thad Beaumont died, in the pages of "Insomia". I haven't seen the film, but I bet it's dissapointing. A great book.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Review: King at his best, Exellent detail and well writen! Stay away from the movie it doesn't do the book justice!
Rating: Summary: Very Entertaining, Very Exciting, and also Very Frightening. Review: This book grips you from the very begining, Because it starts off with a exciting chase with what they call "The Shop" and a father with a girl that has a terrifying power. There are several awesome parts in the story, but wait until you read the exciting ending. That was the best part in the whole book. If you've seen the movie, don't think that's all there is. The movie skips several parts in the real story, so If I were you I would read the book also. It has many parts the book does not have in the movie. Take my advice. Read the real thing. You won't regret it.
Rating: Summary: Edge of your seat excitement Review: Firestarter has got to be the best book I've ever read. I especially enjoyed the visual feel I get just by reading it. If you have a vivid imagination, you would almost feel like you're actually there. It kept me on the edge of my seat and It was hard for me to put it down. This has got to be Stephen King's best story ever.
Rating: Summary: It's good if you like suspense. If not, don't read it. Review: I like horror books. I read it because Stephen King wrote it. But I was dissappointed with this one. I wasn't expecting something so... blah! It was much more conspiracy-ish and suspense than horror. If you don't read suspense, don't bother.
Rating: Summary: A real chiller!!! Review: Stephen King has done it again. I read about 10 of his novels and i especially enjoyed this one, since it was my first real lecture in english. The plot is a touch of genius and the author is a master at making it all as believable as it can get. The characters are strong and original figures, they all have their bright, as well as dark sides, and that makes them the more humane. "Firestarter" is one of my favorites ammong S.K.`s novels. The end is kinda frustrating though, since you never know weather little Charlie succeeded in her quest for a normal life or the Shop`s agents managed to get to her for the third time. Guess King left that to his readears imagination. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who loves a thrilling piece of fiction.
